DraftKings Daily Fantasy Basketball Guide 8/10/20

Slate Overview:

Monday’s featured NBA DraftKings slate should be an interesting one.  When there isn’t much left to play for we tend to see rotations and minutes change a bit, and that could very well be the case today.  Following their win over Memphis on Sunday, Nick Nurse said “you’ll see a bit of everything” in regards to how he would handle the distribution of minutes over Toronto’s last few games.  The Lakers, Bucks, and Raptors are all locked into their playoff seeds already, and the Mavericks have already announced that Luka Doncic (ankle), Dorian Finney-Smith (hip), and Kristaps Porzingis (knee) will all be sitting out for their tilt with the Jazz on Monday.  That situation along with those of the Lakers, Bucks, and Raptors will definitely be one to keep up with throughout the day.

Point Guard

Pay Up

Malcolm Brogdon ($6,900) – Today Brogdon’s Pacers will square off against the Miami Heat in a crucial Eastern Conference matchup.  Both teams sit at 43-27 which is good for a tie for fourth in the East.  Brogdon draws a nice matchup in the Heat back court today with Kendrick Nunn ruled out and Goran Dragic questionable.  MB has looked good in the bubble so far, scoring 20 or more in all but one of his games.  Coming off a 24 point, five rebound, six assist, one steal, and four 3-pointer performance in 39 minutes Saturday vs. the Lakers, I’m playing Brogdon today with confidence.

Other Option: Jamal Murray ($7,100)

Value

Trey Burke ($3,700) – With the absence of Luka, Porzingis, and Finney-Smith today for the Mavs, the scoring output will have to come from elsewhere.  Since Burke’s 47 fantasy point eruption against the Rockets four games ago he has not done much, but that’s in large part to Luka’s dominance.  Burke ranks in the top half of offensive efficiency on the Mavericks and without Luka should see an extended run at point today.  It’s also encouraging that Burke put up 13 shots in the Mavs’ last game and 15 before that.

Shooting Guard

Pay Up

Devin Booker ($8,700) – Today’s game for the Suns vs. OKC means quite a bit to the Suns.  To have a chance at the post season, Phoenix has to pretty much win out.  However, that’s not something I would bet against just yet.  Undefeated in the bubble so far, the Suns have looked like a new team and Booker is their unquestioned leader boasting a ridiculous 33.1% usage rate.  I expect him to play a big role again for the Suns Monday.

Value

Luguentz Dort ($4,000) – Although this one could end up being one of the more popular plays of the day in the industry, I’m having a tough time avoiding Dort in my lineups.  He ranks second on the Thunder in minutes since the restart, and has looked better in every game he plays.  On Sunday he grabbed 10 rebounds and although that’s partially due to the absence of both Steven Adams and Nerlens Noel, he should have a good opportunity to duplicate that performance tonight.

Other Option: Seth Curry ($4,100) – With everyone searching for the value in the Mavericks today, this is a play that could slip under the radar a little.  Tim Hardaway Jr. will likely be chalk, and Curry is someone that can do his job for a much cheaper price.  He just returned from a two game absence against the Bucks in a game where he played just 21 minutes.  With a thin Mavs team today Curry could see a bit of an uptick in minutes and if he gets hot, could produce a nice return for a lower price and ownership than THJ.

Small Forward

Pay Up

Jimmy Butler ($7,200) – Ah, the Jimmy Butler v TJ Warren rematch at last.  I touched earlier on the importance of this game for both teams, but there’s also a bit of bad blood here.  Butler is expected to return from a foot injury that’s been bothering him because of that we are getting him at a very discounted price.  In fact, the last time he was priced this low he hit 6x value.  I’ll have quite a bit of Jimmy Butler today in a nice rivalry spot at a discounted price.

Value

Victor Oladipo ($5,800) – Oladipo, like his backcourt mate in Malcolm Brogdon, is a solid play today.  Coming off a season high in minutes Saturday vs. the Lakers, I expect him to play a big part in the Pacers success again today.  We all know what VO is capable of, and I’ll continue to buy low on him – especially if he’s getting minutes in the 30’s.

Power Forward

Pay Up

Deandre Ayton ($8,000) – As aforementioned, the Suns have been on fire and yet to lose in the bubble.  Outside of Devin Booker, Ayton is probably the main reason.  Scoring 18 or more points in every game but one and recording a double-double in three out of five, Ayton has a fairly safe floor.  In a must-win game and a matchup today vs. what could be a depleted Thunder frontcourt, I expect Ayton to feast.

Value

Maxi Kleber ($4,200) – With both Porzingis and Finney-Smith out for Dallas today, Kleber should see quite and uptick in minutes.  The rebounds will certainly be there for Maxi today, and with his ability to stretch the floor and hit the deep ball I fully expect him to exceed his price today.

Center

Pay Up

Rudy Gobert ($7,600) – To me Gobert is the clear cut #1 at the center position today.  Not only because of a weaker matchup, but because of his fantasy dominance over the course of the last three games.  In that span, Gobert is averaging almost 45 DKFP a game.  He should find himself with the upper hand all game against a depleted Mavs frontcourt.

Value

Mike Muscala ($3,200) – This is a play that is heavily dependent on the injury situation of Adams and Noel for the Thunder.  If both sit again today, Muscala becomes a great play.  In 28 minutes vs. the Wizards, Muscala registered 20.25 DKFP and looked very comfortable with the OKC first unit.
