Course Preview

Hello, there fam! I know a few of us had a sweat this past weekend, and if you chose players from the Study Hub you would know we had an 80% success rate in making the cut. This week we head over to Mississippi for the Sanderson Farms Championship at Country Club of Jackson. We will be seeing a full field of 139 players (Oosty WD) and although we aren’t receiving a strong field, it will be much better than last week’s weak field. Headliner and defending champion Sebastian Munoz will be in the field, alongside Ryan Armour, Sergio Garcia, Stewart Cink, and Bill Haas.

Country Club of Jackson is a par 72, measuring about 7400 yards on Bermuda Grass. This course will be challenging compared to last week at Punta Cana. We have 6 holes that have a 22-41% chance in birdie rate; which happen to be the four par 5’s. Lastly, we have 5 holes that have a 17-20% bogey rate; 4/5 are par 4’s.

The course has narrow fairways which make it difficult to hit into fairways. Also, the rough will be grown out a bit, but nothing crazy. As mentioned the fairways are narrow, but it’s important to target bombers and approach shots. Putting won’t be as important since Bermuda Greens are usually fast.

Important Stats:

  • Strokes Gained: Ball Striking
  • Strokes Gained: Approach The Green
  • Strokes Gained: Around The Green
  • Par 4: 400-450
  • Par 5 Efficiency
  • Strokes Gained: Putting

Cash Play

  • Scottie Scheffler ($11400) – It’s pretty obvious that Scottie would come in this high and one of the best in the field. He’s played here twice finishing 45th and 16th last year. In the last 5 starts he’s gained 7 strokes T2G, 3.3 on APP,. 2.1 OTT and 1.6 ARG. Scottie is ranked 2nd in my model, he’s gained 0.66 strokes here at CC of Jackson in 8 rounds and he’s trending high by gaining 2.5 in total strokes in the last 20 rounds.
  • Sungjae Im ($10500) – Sungjae finished 2nd last year and after the rust last season, Sungjae looks much better now. He gains nearly 0.4 strokes on Bermuda, gains 1.5 strokes in 6 rounds, and has been trending upwards recently. Gaining nearly a stroke in the last 20 rounds.

GPP Play

  • Byeong Hun An ($10000) – I can’t believe I’m talking about Benny. What has the world come to. So, Benny is ranked 1st in strokes gained in this course (crazy, huh?). Benny gained 2.7 strokes in the last 4 rounds and when he played last year he finished 3rd. He also has an uptrend of 0.3 strokes gained in the last 20 rounds.
  • Sebastian Munoz ($9900) – Yes, Munoz won this event last year, but what makes me go back to this winner is his recent form. Before he won in 2019 he finished 48th at Wyndham, 43rd at Northern Trust, and 7th at Greenbrier. He gained strokes in all those events. Fast forward to the present and he’s had an even better finish with two 8th placed finishes in the Tour Championship and BMW Championship. Also, finished 18th at Northern Trust while gaining strokes in all these events. Now he’s facing this course? It should be a breeze compared to the other three. Munoz has also gained 0.82 strokes in the last 12 rounds in this course and an upward trend of 0.58 in the last 20 rounds.

Dark Horse Play

  • Zach Johnson ($9600) – I don’t know how overlooked he’ll be, but ZJ has been playing phenomenal golf. I mean, ZJ just finished 8th at the U.S Open. He’s also 3rd in my strokes gained model; +1.7 strokes in the last 4 rounds. Zach has also gained 1.3 strokes per round in the last 20 rounds and finished 14th last year here at Sanderson.
