Bottom of the Barrel Week 8 NFL DFS Breakdown
Bottom of the Barrel Week 8 NFL DFS Breakdown
Chris Robin https://twitter.com/DetroitBeastie
I’ve always antiquated football with the fall. The fall with horror movies. When discussing horror movies there are a few rules to go over! Seeing how we are already onto Bottom of the Barrel Week 8 some unwritten horror movie laws apply here!
1. Sex = Death
2. Don’t drink and do drugs
3. Never say “I’ll be right back!”
4. Sequels are always bigger and bloodier
5. Sequel killers are basically superhuman
6. Anyone can die in a sequel
On social media you see everything! On social media, anything goes. I look at daily fantasy sports on Twitter and Facebook as being in an actual horror movie! The accounts and content posted daily are the same as a masked man carrying a large knife! They will chase you down, cause anxiety and murder your fantasy football joy!

Telling the truth is among the most freeing and respectable actions we can do. The longer you hold in and stuff down the worse you will feel. Our secrets make us sick. When something bad happens to us there are only a few things we can do. Let it define you, destroy you, or strengthen you. Which path are you choosing?
Week 8 of the NFL season is upon us. Halloween is also on Sunday!
Josh Allen BUF v MIA(26th)(FD-$8,800)(DK-$8,100)(Y!-$39)
Josh has now thrown 15 touchdowns compared to three interceptions. After starting slow at the beginning of the season, this stud quarterback rolling! I shudder thinking about what Allen and the Bills are about to do at home against the Dolphins this week. Oh boy!
In some cases, it’s good to plan! Week 8 of the NFL is no different! As you scroll down you will see what I’m getting at! Here are the cheaper options I am pivoting to at quarterback!
Carson Wentz IND v TEN(27th)(FD-$7,200)(DK-$5,700)(Y!-$29)
Has Carson Wentz finally tapped back into what made him a superstar while in Philadelphia? In Week 7 Wentz completed 17 of 26 pass attempts for 150 yards and two touchdowns while rushing four times for 23 yards and another touchdown! Was tough sledding on Sunday night weather-wise but the fact Carson has not thrown an INT in five games has turned a few heads!
Matt Ryan ATL v CAR(14th)(FD-$7,200)(DK-$5,900)(Y!-$24)
Ryan has thrown for 300+ yards and two scores in back-to-back games! As a B&B special in Week 7, Matt has made good on his DFS pricing, so far! Calvin Ridley and Russell Gage have returned for the Falcons and have been outstanding! With stud rookie TE Kyle Pitts having fully broken out, dare I say Matt Ryan is must start from this point on? Or at least until they elevate his price!
Teddy Bridgewater DEN v WSH(32nd)(FD-$7,000)(DK-$5,400)(Y!-$26)
Teddy Bridgewater was 23-of-33 for 187 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception Thursday night against the Browns. His foot injury and struggle to move around were very apparent. Watching Teddy B on Thursday was tough at times. At the start of the second-half back-up QB, Drew Lock had his helmet on, standing on the sideline warming up. Even the announcers were going back and forth about it. “Will it be Teddy B or Drew Lock to start the second half?” The comeback attempt was admirable but fell short. So, I will ask you the same question. Who do we get at QB in Week 8 against Washington?
Trevor Lawrence JAX @ SEA(16th)(FD-$6,700)(DK-$5,500)(Y!-$24)
One little trick I have learned over the years is with the BYE week teams coming back into the mix. Last week the Jaguars were on BYE. Meaning, there may be a tiny edge to be gained here. Trevor and this Jacksonville squad haven’t exactly lit the world on fire. After the Seahawks performance on Monday Night, one thing is clear. T-Law and the Jags are set up nicely to rack up yardage and points in Week 8.
Ben Roethlisberger PIT @ CLE(29th)(FD-$6,600)(DK-$5,400)(Y!-$25)
I was wrong. Plain and simple, I was wrong. In an odd way, Ben has been a thorn in my side this entire season. To be clear, I have spent the last few months talking about the predictive downfall of Ben’s career. While Ben, on the other hand, has done just enough to ward off the vultures. Roethlisberger has thrown just one touchdown in five of his six contests in 2021. Hardly eye-popping or newsworthy but enough to keep on ticking. We are in for a treat here in Cleveland. The divisional game against two teams who literally hate each other.
Tyrod Taylor HOU v LAR(9th)(FD-$6,300)(DK-$4,900)(Y!-$24)
Why in God’s name would I mention Tyrod Taylor here for Week 8? The team’s HC confirmed Taylor is the starting QB when healthy as well, saying, “He was our starting quarterback, and when he’s healthy, he’ll be our starting quarterback.” Not really an answer or a confidence-boosting statement by me about Taylor. However, I will say this, Houston is a 14.5 underdog right now along with the fact LA is 19th against opposing RB’s. We all know Tyrod likes to move around and extend plays. If active, I could see a 40–50-yard rushing ceiling.
P.J. Walker CAR @ ATL(30th)(FD-$6,200)(DK-$4,000)(Y!-$20)
I am not advocating we seriously roster Walker in Week 8. Merely starting how grim the quarterback position is in Carolina. Also, this Panthers offense is well, not good, without McCaffrey. Fantasy football and more importantly, DFS, has always been about opportunity. Hell, I’ve created this entire Bottom of the Barrel series around it! Only in the largest and deepest of GPP’s in Week 8 should we even consider P.J.
Drew Lock DEN v WSH(32nd)(FD-$6,100)(DK-$4,800)(Y!-$23)
We all saw how the start of the third quarter looked to be going last Thursday night. Drew Lock was so close to getting some meaningful snaps! Yet, Teddy remained the man through the end of it all. Again, not advocating we start Drew Lock in Week 8. Unless, as the week’s practice reports and injury news say otherwise. All I’m asking is that we remain diligent with our eyes open. If for some odd reason Teddy cannot play in Week 8 the pivot to Drew Lock, in a plum match-up, could be sweet!
David Blough DET v PHI(12th)(FD-$6,000)(DK-$4,400)(Y!-$20)
I try not to let my personal fandom get in the way of my sports content. More importantly, I pride myself on being objective and straightforward with all of you. Occasionally, I need to get it out. This is that moment. Jared Goff has looked awful. At this moment in time, by all reports, Goff is not in any danger of losing the starting gig. Rightfully so, seeing how the Lions are 0-7, it really doesn’t matter. In DFS formats though, David Blough could be a nice, sneaky, and cheap move. Again, let’s keep our eye on the week’s practice reports!
Derrick Henry TEN @ IND(3rd)(FD-$10,500)(DK-$8,900)(Y!-$39)
Hey, quick question! Remember in last week’s edition of B&B I mentioned how insanely priced Derrick Henry was? To be fair, I went on and on about it too. Rightfully so! After all that love King Henry went ahead and recorded a touchdown pass. The unquestioned RB1 lines up against a stout Colts defensive unit Sunday which, also happens to be Halloween! Trick or treat Indianapolis!
Looking through the rest of the reasonably priced RB’s here’s what I have uncovered!
Zack Moss BUF v MIA(27th)(FD-$6,100)(DK-$5,200)(Y!-$18)
Another one of my, maybe folks will forget fresh off a BYE week plays, Bills running back Zack Moss rushed eight times for 24 yards against the Titans in Week 6. He also caught two of four passes for an extra 15 yards. Leading up to Week 6, Zack accumulated 244 scrimmage yards and two touchdowns in his last three games. I have also noticed a direct pattern here with Moss and the Bills. When Buffalo finds themselves in a more competitive game it’s the Josh Allen passing show. In games where the Bills are dominating, they lean on Moss/Singletary. I will give you one guess on what kind of game I expect from the Bills in Week 8 against the Dolphins?
Melvin Gordon III DEN v WSH(17th)(FD-$6,000)(DK-$5,200)(Y!-$19)
We all say silly things. We also hitch out wagons to odd ideas. Also known as, “dying on that hill”. No secret about my love for the Broncos running back Javonte Williams. Furthermore, the person prediction of Javonte grabbing the RB1 role in Denver a few weeks into the season and not looking back. I am a man of my word and have no issue admitting when I am wrong. Nothing we have seen so far this season leads me to believe Williams won’t be the guy here soon in Denver. What’s driving me crazy is the literal split of targets and touches on a weekly basis. Given the match-up, in Week 8 both Denver running backs are in play!
Rashaad Penny SEA v JAX(24th)(FD-$6,000)(DK-$4,000)(Y!-$18)
Six carries for nine yards on Monday night. Queue the “oof sized load” meme. So far this season Penny has 8 carries for 17 yards which is a miserable 2.1 average. Granted starting Seattle RB Alex Collins only tallied 35 yards on 16 carries which also comes to a 2.1 average. So let’s chalk this one up to a very good Saints defense and move along. No way in hell both backs only average 2.1 yards a pop Sunday against Jacksonville.
Kenneth Gainwell PHI @ DET(29th)(FD-$5,900)(DK-$5,000)(Y!-$17)
Well, here it is. Eagles running back Kenny Gainwell rushed five times for 20 yards and caught four of his eight targets for 41 yards and a touchdown. Kenny’s eight targets in Week 7 were a season-high, and his five rushing attempts were his most since Week 2. Philadelphia’s supposed lead back, Miles Sanders suffered an ankle injury last Sunday. Meaning, Kenny should slot in with some sort of shared role with Boston Scott in Week 8. Which, if done right, won’t last long. Kenny is, to me, the superior back here.
Javonte Williams DEN v WSH(17th)(FD-$5,900)(DK-$5,300)(Y!-$18)
Another week another mention of Javonte in Bottom of the Barrel. Superstition and all, that’s the blurb! Not fulfilled? Not enough? Scroll up and read Melvin Gordon’s excerpt!
Eli Mitchell SF @ CHI(14th)(FD-$5,800)(DK-$5,400)(Y!-$20)
Elijah Mitchell carried the ball 18 times for 107 yards and a touchdown Sunday night. Eli is now up to 296 rushing yards on 63 carries (4.7 yards per rush) so far this season. Clearly, the 49ers lead I think Mitchell could realistically see 20 carries Sunday in Chicago. In a game with a measly over/under of 39.5 points this one just screams slow and steady. Please roster Eli in Week 8!
Samaje Perine CIN @ NYJ(32nd)(FD-$5,700)(DK-$4,900)(Y!-$16)
So, in walks three Cincinnati Bengal’s running backs. Joe Mixon, Samaje Perine, and Chris Evans. One is too expensive, one isn’t getting enough playing time, and the third is just right! Samaje Perine carried the ball 11 times for 52 yards and a touchdown in a 41-17 Sunday. He also added a 23-yard reception as the Bengals put it on the Ravens! From a football fan perspective, it was great to see Cincinnati beat Baltimore. From a DFS point of view, Perine’s late 46-yard touchdown run was the cherry on top! The Bengals are rolling and in Week 8 look for more of the same!
Brandon Bolden NE @ LAC(28th)(FD-$5,500)(DK-$4,500)(Y!-$15)
Brandon Bolden snagged 6-of-7 targets for 79 yards and a touchdown in Week 7. Was a beautiful stat-line for an RB less than 3% owned on Draftkings! In Week 8 however, the Patriots head to LA to tussle with the Chargers. Who is 1st overall in defending opposing wide receivers, yet only 28th vs running backs and 31st against tight-ends. There is an opening here for Bolden to put together another strong stat-line in Week 8.
J.D. McKissic WSH @ DEN(11th)(FD-$5,400)(DK-$5,100)(Y!-$16)
McKissic continues to be hot and cold for fantasy purposes this year. So, the idea of adding him into our DFS lines again this week seems frustrating. Yet, the Washington Football Team seems content in using JD as a pass-catching back. No harm in that and we all know Gibson is the premier running back in Washington. Denver is strong across the board on Defense I have a feeling McKissic will find a crack in their armor.
Salvon Ahmed MIA @ BUF(2nd)(FD-$5,100)(DK-$4,000)(Y!-$10)
As stated in last week’s Bottom of the Barrel the Dolphins seem to like this kid and continue finding ways to mix him in. Ahmed has amassed 17 touches for 89 total scrimmage yards over his last two games. Nothing crazy doesn’t jump off the page but it doesn’t have to! The entire idea of this article is plucking the cheaply priced low-owned guys to complement the studs! Buffalo should put a whopping on the Dolphins in Week 8 but so what? I would be overjoyed to see Salvon carry the ball 5 times for 25 yards and catch 4 passes for 30 yards. What if he finds the endzone in Buffalo? Well, that’s all gravy then!
Cooper Kupp LAR @ HOU(6th)(FD-$9,200)(DK-$9,000)(Y!-$36)
There are numerous other studs WR’s, about a dozen, that are high priced and look good! That’s not the idea behind Bottom of the Barrel! So, follow me here, and let’s look at the lesser owned wide receivers!
Corey Davis NYJ v CIN(12th)(FD-$6,100)(DK-$5,200)(Y!-$16)
Creating DFS content doesn’t work well if there’s no honesty and/or transparency. Meaning, I had a small rough draft for Bottom of the Barrel Week 8 late last week well before Jets rookie quarterback Zach Wilson sprained his knee. Do me a favor, go look around other fantasy football content for this week. Most will say, “Fantasy managers should be avoiding the Jets’ skill positional players in the immediate aftermath of the Wilson injury.” This isn’t awful advice, but it gets me going! From a DFS playing mind set the terms, ‘avoid’ and ‘fade’ just do something to me! In a good way! Freaking Joe Flacco is now the Jet’s starting QB for a few weeks. Corey Davis is back in play here baby!
Jarvis Landry CLE v PIT(28th)(FD-$6,000)(DK-$5,000)(Y!-$16)
Odell Beckham Jr. is toast. Let’s just call it what it is. Week 7 was Landry’s first game back after a multi-week absence. Jarvis also led the team in targets on Thursday night. Yes, I am aware in the fourth quarter Landry limped off the field, but Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski has already said no issue. Looking at the match-up ahead I am fully expecting both teams to just unload in hopes of embarrassing the other. Which will be both entertaining and prosperous for our DFS lines! I’m thinking another 7 to 8 targets are on tap for Landy Sunday at home.
Marquez Callaway NO v TB(17th)(FD-$5,900)(DK-$5,400)(Y!-$17)
Another product of an early look at this Week 8 slate, Callaway was briefly penciled into my notes before the conclusion of Monday Night Football. While the results have yet to be special the volume has been fantastic! Marquez saw seven targets, his second-most of the year. Callaway has now seen at least seven targets in back-to-back games. Again, the results haven’t been there, but the volume is! I will bet on that any day of the week!
Tim Patrick DEN v WSH(31st)(FD-$5,800)(DK-$4,700)(Y!-$18)
Ok, I need you to follow me with this one and hear me out. Tim only had two catches for 16 yards Thursday night. Was a very boring and quiet night. Next up, in Week 8, Jerry Jeudy is scheduled to be back and starting thus, completely hindering and burying Tim’s production right? What if, Patrick’s under-the-radar production, is a byproduct of Jerry Jeudy being healthy and on the field? It’s always a matter of perspective! We can count on Tim literally being no more than 3 or 4% owned on Sunday.
Tyler Boyd CIN @ NYJ(3rd)(FD-$5,800)(DK-$4,800)(Y!-$12)
Sometimes fantasy sports and DFS is a waiting game. An exercise in patience. Exactly what we have here with Tyler Boyd. Obviously, rookie wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase is the big draw. The kid has been unbelievable lights out. With Chase and Higgins healthy and commanding fifteen, or more, combined targets there isn’t a lot left for Boyd. Throw in Joe Mixon’s stellar play and it only further suppresses Tyler Boyd’s upside. We must be cool and calculated now when picking our spots with Boyd. A practice in patience as I’ve said. I am betting on a 4 reception, one touchdown, and 50-yard performance from Ty guy Sunday against the Jets.
Robby Anderson CAR @ ATL(22nd)(FD-$5,700)(DK-$4,700)(Y!-$11)
Robby Anderson grabbed 3-of-9 targets for 14 yards Sundays against the Giants. It’s been the damnedest thing with Robby this year. He’s getting the targets, but not doing a dang thing with them! So where does that leave us in Week 8? Personally speaking, I will say 8 targets 6 receptions for 60 yards, and a touchdown! At his pricing on Fanduel and Draftkings Anderson is very much worth the risk is given the match-up regardless of the quarterback situation.
Kalif Raymond DET v PHI(5th)(FD-$5,700)(DK-$5,300)(Y!-$13)
Kalif has been no stranger to Bottom of the Barrel this season. To be quite honest, Raymond has been a solid contributor in all fantasy formats! Wild I know but he caught six passes for 115 yards on eight targets Sunday in Los Angeles. For your information in four of five games, Kalif has seen six or more targets. Silly to not give the vet a look this week at home.
Russell Gage ATL v CAR(10th)(FD-$5,600)(DK-$4,200)(Y!-$15)
Russ returned from a hip injury in Week 7 and caught 4-of-6 targets for 67 yards and a touchdown! Gage was on a lot of ‘Sleeper’ lists heading into the 2021 season. With Calvin Ridley back and Kyle Pitts breaking out this Atlanta Falcons offense can now settle in, gel, and put up video game numbers, hopefully! Headed into Week 8 the Carolina Panthers are seemingly in disarray given the awful play of quarterback Sam Darnold. Gage and numerous other Falcons are very much in play in Week 8!
Jamal Agnew JAX @ SEA(26th)(FD-$5,300)(DK-$3,700)(Y!-$10)
If you’re keeping track, highly doubt you are, no offense taken, then you will recognize Jamal Agnew’s name as a past Bottom of the Barrel selection. In Week 6 Agnew caught 5 passes on 6 targets for 79 yards! Then the Jags had their bye in Week 7. To me, it’s a perfect storm of low ownership and forgotten play. If we fast forward to the Sunday of Week 8 I firmly believe Jamal Agnew continues his ascent of offense snap and target share. Granted Agnew is in the gadget guy category, but all the points add up the same. Look for another five or six targets here including a touchdown!
Zach Pascal IND v TEN(32nd)(FD-$5,300)(DK-$4,400)(Y!-$15)
As Carson Wentz and Jonathan Taylor go so do the Indianapolis Colts. Aside from Michael Pittman Jr. the movement of the Colts receivers is strange. Realistically, no offense, their number two wide-out is who is healthy at the time of kick-off. Last week it was Zach Pascal in favor of T.Y Hilton. Turning our attention to Week 8 I see no reason why it’s no Zach again.
Quez Watkins PHI @ DET(21st)(FD-$5,300)(DK-$4,000)(Y!-$10)
We love Quez for his big playability. I know several fantasy football players that roster Watkins solely based on a big play scoring bonus. Look no further than Jalen Hurts, the Eagles, and Quez Watkins in Detroit on Sunday. Oh, by the way, Watkins played 72% of the team’s offensive snaps last week. His production remains low but that’s the beauty of DFS! Only takes one! In closing here Watkins averages about 19.3 yards a reception. Look for a homerun ball here from Quez in Detroit.
Kyle Pitts ATL v CAR(15th)(FD-$6,800)(DK-$6,300)(Y!-$21)
Welcome to the top kid! There have been a lot of articles since draft day about Kyle Pitts. Is he a generational talent? Yet, no one talked about his rise to the top of the TE list in DFS formats. Well, here it is! Kyle Pitts is on the top of the TE mountain in Week 8!
C.J. Uzomah CIN @ NYJ(24th)(FD-$5,700)(DK-$3,700)(Y!-$17)
Can we recapture Uzomah’s magic again in Week 8? Who knows but it’ll be fun to try!
Hunter Henry NE @ LAC(31st)(FD-$5,500)(DK-$4,200)(Y!-$19)
Exactly as predicted from Bottom of the Barrel in Week 7 Hunter Henry caught 2-of-4 targets for 23 yards and a touchdown! At this point, it’s just fun and exciting rostering him in hopes he keeps the touchdown streak alive!
Mo Alie-Cox IND v TEN(11th)(FD-$5,100)(DK-$3,200)(Y!-$11)
Upon further review, the Indianapolis Colts love Mo Alie-Cox! So why shouldn’t we? Jack Doyle is just about done in terms of meaningful playing time. You have a team that can move the ball on the strength of stud running back Jonathan Taylor meaning drives stay alive longer with a high upside to get into the red zone. In runs Mo Alie-Cox to catch a touchdown! It is that easy!
Pat Freiermuth PIT @ CLE(12th)(FD-$4,900)(DK-$3,600)(Y!-$11)
Pittsburgh tight end Pat Freiermuth caught all seven of his targets for 58 yards in Week 6. Following their bye week, the Steelers head to Cleveland for a heavyweight fight in the AFC North. We are only eight weeks into the season and Pat has firmly taken over Eric Ebron as the team’s TE1.
MyCole Pruitt TEN @ IND(20th)(FD-$4,900)(DK-$2,500)(Y!-$10)
After Derrick Henry threw that touchdown pass to Titans tightened MyCole Pruitt I feverishly went back through my Week 7 notes in the hope I had mentioned MyCole. Well, I had not but those who cannot remember the past are doomed to repeat it! So here we are! All jokes aside the Tennessee Titans have clicked and are cruising. So let the good times roll!
