Let’s get to my early NBA DFS picks for DraftKings and FanDuel. As always this is a quick peek at the upcoming slate. Things are subject to change so check Team Rise or Fall throughout the day for the latest news and notes.
Start your research with this spot every day for our first look at standout Vegas totals, pace up picks, and notable injury news. At the end I’ll address how I would handle this slate with the info we have available. This is a preview and plenty of decisions are subject to change depending on how the day’s news plays out.
We made it through yesterday’s slate without any games being cancelled. Can we make it two days in a row? I’m gonna be positive and say yes we can.
Now, to the picks!
Miami Heat @ Brooklyn Nets O/U 231
It looks like James Harden (10.5k DK/10.2k FD) and Kevin Durant (10.4k/10.7k) are both playing in this game. Kyrie Irving (8.9k/9.4k) is currently listed as questionable but there’s a reasonable chance he plays as well. If all three guys play I’d favor Harden and Durant.
The Miami Heat will be without Jimmy Butler, Tyler Herro, Avery Bradley, and Meyers Leonard. The majority of the production will fall to Bam Adebayo (8.5k/8.7k), Goran Dragic (6.2k/5.7k), and Kendrick Nunn (5.6k/6.5k). Looking at the pricing we can see that Dragic is a better play on FanDuel, and Nunn is a better play on DraftKings. You really can’t go wrong with using Kendrick Nunn on either site because he’s been playing out of his mind lately.
Los Angeles Lakers @ Chicago Bulls O/U 228
Anthony Davis (9.3k DK/9.8k FD) is listed as probable and LeBron James (9.4k/9.9k) is listed as questionable as the Lakers take on the Bulls. I’m expecting both guys to play tonight. As Donuts has pointed out on the Team Rise or Fall Twitch stream, LeBron and AD haven’t been playing enough minutes to justify their price tags.
Dennis Schroder (6.1k/6.2k) and Montrezl Harrell (5.7k/5.7k) are two fairly priced Lakers that can perform well.
For the Bulls, Zach Lavine (9.2k/9.3k) has been playing his best basketball lately. He’s had one game below 50 fantasy points in his last six games, and I’m interested to see how he plays against the Lakers and the best defense in the NBA.
Lauri Markkanen (6.4k/6.7k) and Thad Young (4.6k/3.8k) are the other Bulls I’m considering from this game. Young is particularly attractive on FanDuel where 7x value for him would be 26.6 points. He’s scored more than that in each of his last three games.
Golden State Warriors @ Utah Jazz
Golden State Pace Rating: 104.1
Utah Pace Rating: 98.7
Game Total: 228
The Warriors are currently third in the NBA in pace rating, and the Jazz come into tonight’s action ranked 23rd in pace. Golden State recently had a similar pace matchup with the New York Knicks and got manhandled. Utah kind of quietly has the third best record in the NBA and I wouldn’t be surprised if they beat up on the Warriors tonight.
Steph Curry (9.5k DK/9.7k FD) is always in consideration but after that the Warriors are hit or miss. Draymond Green (5.5k/5.1k) has three decent outings and three bad outings in his last six games. Kelly Oubre Jr. (6.1k/5.6k) has been more consistent lately after a very inconsistent stretch. Oubre’s pricing on FanDuel makes him the better play on that site.
For the Utah Jazz side I’m not too high on Donovan Mitchell (7.8k/8.5k) or Rudy Gobert (7.3k/8.4k). They CAN hit value but I’m just not a fan of their pricing. I favor both players on DraftKings if I’m being forced to play them.
Mike Conley (6.6k/7.5k), Jordan Clarkson (6.3k/6.2k), and Joe Ingles (4.2k/4.5k) are solid mid to low priced plays. With that said, I don’t like Mike Conley on FanDuel.
Probable: Kevin Durant, Anthony Davis, Chandler Hutchinson, and Derrick Favors.
Questionable: Mike Scott, Joel Embiid, Kyrie Irving, LeBron James, and Dario Saric.
Doubtful: Blake Griffin and Victor Oladipo.
Out: Jimmy Butler, Tyler Herro, Avery Bradley, Meyers Leonard, Juan Hernangomez, Karl-Anthony Towns, Wendell Carter Jr., Danuel House, Christian Wood, John Wall, Dorian Finney-Smith, Josh Richardson, Dwight Powell, and Maxi Kleber.
Nikola Jokic (10.8k DK/11.2k FD) – Jokic and the Denver Nuggets took on the Phoenix Suns yesterday and Jokic dropped over 60 fantasy points. Now a guy with his talent and smarts gets a crack at the same team again. He might not log 40 minutes tonight but he should still have a great game.
Steven Adams (6.1k DK/5.4k FD) – If you’re looking to go a different direction at center other than the high-priced Jokic or the low-priced Cousins let me interest you in Steven Adams. He hovers around 28 fantasy points per game, but tonight he gets a matchup with the Minnesota Timberwolves minus KAT. I’m not expecting Adams to have an incredible 50 point game but 35-40 fantasy points is definitely in play this evening.
DeMarcus Cousins (5.1k DK/4.9k FD) – If you’re willing to eat a plate full of chalk then Cousins is the play for you. He should draw the start again tonight with Christian Wood sidelined with a bad ankle. DeMarcus scored over 30 fantasy points in his last start and should be able to do that again.
