5 FREE FanDuel and DraftKings NBA DFS Picks 1/28

Let’s get to my early NBA DFS picks for DraftKings and FanDuel. As always this is a quick peek at the upcoming slate. Things are subject to change so check Team Rise or Fall throughout the day for the latest news and notes.

Start your research with this spot every day for our first look at standout Vegas totals, pace up picks, and notable injury news. At the end I’ll address how I would handle this slate with the info we have available. This is a preview and plenty of decisions are subject to change depending on how the day’s news plays out.

The picks below are for the four-game main slate on both DraftKings and FanDuel. Three games start between 7:30p and 8p EST, and the last game tips off at 10p EST. Check the Team Rise or Fall NBA News channel in our Discord before the last game starts in case you have to late swap.

DFS Picks for FanDuel and DraftKings

Let’s get to the picks!

NBA DFS Picks Notable Vegas Totals

Portland Trailblazers @ Houston Rockets O/U 229

There’s a lot of potential for great DFS picks in a game with a 229 implied total, and two teams that don’t play much defense. Christian Wood (8.7k DraftKings/9.5k FanDuel) is slated to play in this game so good news for him, but most likely bad news for Boogie Cousins (7.2k/8k).

Other solid DFS picks from this game include Damian Lillard (10.6k/9.7k) who’s averaging 50 fantasy points per game over his last three games. The price on FanDuel is much more attractive and clearly makes him a better choice on FD. I can get behind a Carmelo Anthony (5.6k/5.2k) play if he’s starting. Otherwise I’ll be avoiding him.

John Wall (7.3k/7.3k) deserves consideration for your DFS picks as a player that will have the ball in his hands a lot in a game Vegas thinks will explode.

NBA DFS Picks Pace Up Spots

Golden State Warriors @ Phoenix Suns O/U 220.5

Golden State Pace Rating: 104

Phoenix Pace Rating: 97

Game Total: 220.5

The Warriors and Suns square off on the back end of a back-to-back for both teams. There are a lot of solid DFS picks in this game. Steph Curry (9.7k DraftKings/9.8k FanDuel) is coming off of a bad game by his standards (below 40 fantasy points) so I’m expecting him to bounce back.

Chris Paul (8k/7.4k)leads the way for Phoenix and becomes an even better play if Devin Booker (8.3k/7.6k)doesn’t play. Deandre Ayton (7.8k/8.3k) is averaging just above 40 fantasy points over his last five games and could do well against the Warriors frontcourt. Jae Crowder (5.5k/5.2k) is averaging 26 fantasy points over his last five games and he’s a solid DFS pick if he draws the start tonight.

A couple of other guys drawing consideration from me are Mikal Bridges (6k/5.5k) and Kelly Oubre Jr. (6.4k/6.3k). The latter is in a revenge spot against his old team if you like narratives. If you prefer numbers Oubre is averaging 29 points per game over his last three games.

NBA DFS Injury News

Probable: Derrick Jones Jr. and Rodney Hood.

Questionable: Blake Griffin, Moe Harkless, Jimmy Butler, Tyler Herro, Meyers Leonard, Goran Dragic, Damian Jones, Cameron Payne, and Devin Booker.

Doubtful: None.

Out: Robert Covington, Kawhi Leonard, Paul George, Patrick Beverley, and Dario Saric.

NBA DFS Picks Early Look

Damian Lillard (10.6k DK/9.7k FD) – I discussed Lillard in the Vegas totals section so there’s not a lot to add. He’s playing well right now, he’s in a game with the highest implied total on the slate, and Houston ranks 30th in the NBA in defense against the point guard position. That sounds like Dame Time to me.

Deandre Ayton (7.8k DK/8.3k FD)¬† – I like Ayton more for DraftKings where we’re getting a $500 discount compared to FanDuel. No matter where you decide to use him he’s averaging over 40 fantasy points per game over his last five games. He’ll be matched up against the rookie James Wiseman, Kevin Looney, and Draymond Green. Deandre should be able to bully his way to a nice performance.

Dennis Schroder (5.7k DK/5.7k FD) – Schroder is only averaging 20 fantasy points over his last five games so that’s terrible. But the reason I like him for my DFS picks today is because the Los Angeles Lakers are playing the second game of a back-to-back. I can see LeBron getting some rest and Schroder taking over the majority of the ballhandling duties.
