Alright it’s time for my early picks for DraftKings and FanDuel. As always this is a quick peek at the upcoming slate. Things are subject to change so check Team Rise or Fall throughout the day for the latest news and notes.
Start your research with this spot every day for our first look at standout Vegas totals, pace up picks, and notable injury news. At the end I’ll address how I would handle this slate with the info we have available. This is a preview and plenty of decisions are subject to change depending on how the day’s news plays out.
The picks below are only for the four-game main slates on both DraftKings and FanDuel.
New Orleans Pelicans @ Sacramento Kings O/U 226.5
The Pels continue their West Coast trip with a visit to the Kings. Both teams are struggling to start the season but that doesn’t matter to us. We’re looking for fantasy goodness.
Brandon Ingram is the best player in this game and I like him on both sites. Ingram is slightly discounted on FanDuel. De’Aaron Fox leads the way for Sacramento and there’s no injury tag so I’ll be firing him up as well.
Other players I like in this game include Zion Williamson and Steven Adams from New Orleans. In my view the Sacramento players are overpriced on DraftKings. On FanDuel I like Buddy Hield and I’m willing to take flyers on Tyrese Haliburton and Harrison Barnes.
Philadelphia 76ers @ Oklahoma City Thunder
This game is a matchup between the teams with the highest pace rating on the four-game slate. A high pace means a lot of shots and either A) A lot of scoring or B) A lot of rebounds and steals.
Ben Simmons is 8.6k on DK and 8.3k on FD. I’d prefer to play him on FanDuel because he’s playing closer to a 7k range player than an 8k. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is viable on both sites for me.
Tyrese Maxey has underperformed his salary over the last two games. This is a good bounce back spot and I’m looking for him to take advantage. Dwight Howard will continue to fill in for the sidelined Joel Embiid, and hopefully he can turn back the clock two days in a row. Isaiah Roby of OKC is in consideration for one of my picks of the day.
Probable: Derrick Favors, Gary Harris, and Patrick Beverley.
Questionable: Hassan Whiteside, Marvin Bagley III, and Lou Williams.
Out: Mike Scott, Joel Embiid, Seth Curry, Al Horford, Joe Ingles, Michael Porter Jr., Lonzo Ball, and Jeremy Lamb.
Kawhi Leonard – He has three 50+ fantasy point games in his last six games. The biggest concern with rostering Kawhi is if there’s a blowout he’ll play limited minutes. Leonard has averaged 27.5 minutes in his last four blowout games. He’s been over 30 minutes in all other games.
De’Aaron Fox – A healthy Fox in a game with the highest implied total on the slate will always be one of my top picks. He’s coming off of a dismal performance against the Los Angeles Clippers, so tonight serves as a get right spot for De’Aaron.
Dwight Howard – He dropped a 40 fantasy point game yesterday so maybe I’m being a prisoner of the moment. Howard is $400 cheaper on FanDuel so he’s one of my top picks there. With a price of 4.4k we don’t need another 40 point performance but it’s not out of the realm of possibility.
