5 FREE FanDuel and DraftKings NBA DFS Picks

Alright it’s time for my early picks for DraftKings and FanDuel. As always this is a quick peek at the upcoming slate. Things are subject to change so check Team Rise or Fall throughout the day for the latest news and notes.

Start your research with this spot every day for our first look at standout Vegas totals, pace up picks, and notable injury news. At the end I’ll address how I would handle this slate with the info we have available. This is a preview and plenty of decisions are subject to change depending on how the day’s news plays out.

DK and FD Picks for 1-16

Via Fantasy Cruncher

Notable Vegas Totals

Atlanta Hawks @ Portland Trailblazers O/U 234

The 5-6 Hawks take on the 7-5 Trailblazers in what should be a battle between stud point guards Trae Young and Damian Lillard. Young started the season on fire but has cleared 40 fantasy points just twice out of his last six games. Lillard has three games above 40 fantasy points in his last six games including huge outings against the Sacramento Kings and Minnesota Timberwolves.

C.J. McCollum is off to a great start to the season and deserves consideration on both sites. John Collins is primed to do well against a depleted Portland frontcourt. My value picks in this game are Kevin Huerter, Cam Reddish, and Carmelo Anthony.

Pace Up Picks

Philadelphia 76ers @ Memphis Grizzlies

This game opens with a 221 implied total and it’s easy to see why. Philly is 4th in the NBA with a 105.1 pace rating while Memphis is tied with two other teams for 16th with a 102.5 rating.

Memphis’ Ja Morant currently has a questionable tag but I like him a lot if he goes tonight. Ben Simmons SHOULD be the man for Philadelphia is he plays. Other players in the mix include Jonas Valanciunus, Tobias Harris, Tyrese Maxey, and Brandon Clarke.

Injury News

Probable: Derrick Rose and Ben Simmons.

Questionable: Gordon Hayward, Bam Adebayo, Moe Harkless, Tyler Herro, Gabe Vincent, Kendrick Nunn, Goran Dragic, and Ja Morant.

Out: Patrick McCaw, Alex Len, Jimmy Butler, Avery Bradley, Meyers Leonard, Mike Scott, Joel Embiid, Seth Curry, Justise Winslow, Jaren Jackson Jr., and Danilo Gallinari.

Early Picks

Damian Lillard – He has an excellent chance to serve as the “Late Hammer” as the best player in the game with the highest implied total. I covered Lillard’s recent play above so there’s not much else to add. I’m hoping Dame sees Trae Young across the court and sees that as an additional challenge.

John Collins – He has underperformed in his last three games, but I’m thinking this is a great bounce back spot. Portland lost Jusuf Nurkic to injury and his replacement, Enes Kanter, isn’t exactly known for defense. Some of this will depend on who’s on the court and the matchups but Collins could also see Carmelo Anthony and Robert Covington down on the blocks.

OG Anunoby – His price is consistent between the two sites (5.5k on DK and 5.6k on FD) and I like him to score right around 6x his cost. It’s unlikely he’ll erupt for an 8x or 9x but he should perform well.

These are my EARLY targets. If you want targets from our NBA coaches closer to lock, check out our NBA Building Blocks!
