Bottom of the Barrel Divisional Round NFL DFS Breakdown
Bottom of the Barrel Divisional Round NFL DFS Breakdown
Bottom of the Barrel Divisional Round 2022
Chris Robin https://twitter.com/DetroitBeastie
As the NFL Playoffs progress and teams are eliminated Bottom of the Barrel will morph into a fun cover-all type daily fantasy sports article! Since day one I have always looked upon DFS as a lawless anything goes type adventure. Taking big swings, outlandish calls, with an anything-goes attitude! Every single NFL Playoff run is a unique caper for those of us who cover sports betting and daily fantasy sports! Let the good times roll!
When the teams and player pools get slimmed down it’s up to us to think about every different outcome possible. Luckily, we have an entire season available to us to comb through. Coaching decisions, player availability, certain live-in-game situations. The possibilities are endless here in terms of spinning each slate to our advantage. It’s an exhausting prospect to certain people. While others relish the chance to show off their reasoning skill sets!
My first thought was treating this divisional round like an hourglass or like water going through a funnel. Starts loaded and packed at the top and after a little digging only what we want is left. Or, if you’re still following, like a multiple-choice test! Every question has at least one answer we can eliminate right of the bat. Thus, raising our odds! Treat each position the same way with the divisional round. The only issue is the fact that’s all on you! Allen or Pat? Akers or Dillon? Higgins or Aiyuk?
As we get started here you will notice soft pricing for several players! It’s a dream come true for a guy like me who writes an article like this! Good luck and enjoy!
Josh Allen BUF @ KC(31st)(FD-$8,800)(DK-$7,600)(Y!-$43)
I assume there was a wild conversation between all DFS formats after the Rams v Cardinals game was final Monday night. It probably went something like this, “So who should be more expensive this week? Josh Allen or Patrick Mahomes?” After some blank stares and flop sweat, they decided on Josh Allen. Why? Who knows but could that move the needle in this match-up?
Normally this is the point of the article where we explore the cheaper options with fun ideas and exciting game scripts. That same idea still applies but I have listed every quarterback who will be playing this weekend with just a little blurb on each one. It’s all up to you now! Take in all the written content you can to make the best-informed decision possible for this round of the NFL Playoffs!
Patrick Mahomes KC v BUF(1st)(FD-$8,500)(DK-$7,300)(Y!-$34)
I will admit we are in foreign territory here with Patrick Mahomes being in Bottom of the Barrel. However, that’s the joy of the NFL Playoffs! Anything goes! Plus being my article, I am able to do as I please! Jokes aside, you can see I’m stalling cause who in their right mind would try and talk you out of using Mahomes this weekend? DvP aside, it is Patrick Mahomes!
Aaron Rodgers GB v SF(13th)(FD-$8,400)(DK-$7,100)(Y!-$32)
Specific opposing team aside, playing in Green Bay this time of year must be awful. Lambeau Field is a magical place chalked full of history and legendary players. Add in bone-chilling cold weather and it favors the home team. At this moment in time, the weather in Green Bay on Saturday night will be a low of -1 degrees with southwestern winds of 10 to 15 mph. Do we really expect this to not affect a northern California team?
Tom Brady TB v LAR(3rd)(FD-$7,800)(DK-$6,800)(Y!-$35)
Don’t know about you but a Tom Brady against Matthew Stafford playoff game has been high on my ‘to-watch’ list for a long time! Now, finally, we get just that! After both, Tampa Bay and Los Angeles dismantled their opposition in Wild Card Weekend both quarterbacks face stiffer competition. Of the two, without a doubt, TB12 has the advantage.
Joe Burrow CIN @ TEN(15th)(FD-$7,700)(DK-$6,600)(Y!-$34)
During the regular season it’s ideal to quote stats and give projections, right? When the NFL Playoffs start, in DFS formats, I find it ideal to share your opinions more and/or why you like the players you’re touting. So, with Jackpot Joey it’s quite clear the Bengals are hitting their stride at the exact right time! Peaking at the right can be just as important as the competition! The Bengals head to Tennessee riding a high of scratching and clawing through the Wild Card round. While the Titans were warm, safe, and comfortable at home last weekend. Just a little food for thought!
Matthew Stafford LAR @ TB(17th)(FD-$7,400)(DK-$6,200)(Y!-$29)
As stated above in Tom Brady’s blurb yes, he has the advantage, but Matthew Stafford may have that beginner’s luck! Plus, this Ram defense is running hot! Absolutely playing tough and buzzing around. A good quarterback with a stud defense is a recipe for success in the NFL Playoffs!
Ryan Tannehill TEN v CIN(11th)(FD-$7,300)(DK-$5,800)(Y!-$25)
Now that we’ve hit the Divisional round, I firmly believe anything goes. Meaning, our process, notes, thoughts, and ideas are all valid! Remember when Tanny was the darling of fantasy football heading into the 2021 NFL season? Not saying he flopped but he didn’t live up to our reasonable expectations. As stated in the opening it would be wise to leave no stone unturned this weekend. Plus, the Titans are getting Derrick Henry back! That may do wonders for Ryan’s stat line on Saturday!
Jimmy Garoppolo SF @ GB(18th)(FD-$6,500)(DK-$5,200)(Y!-$24)
Talk about an outstanding effort in a big spot! Jimmy G and the 49ers really gave it to the Cowboys in Dallas on Sunday. Save me all the refs screwed Dak crap. Not trying to be rude here but that’s done and over. As we turn our attention to Saturday night in Green Bay the 49ers have a huge mountain to climb! Jimmy and this defense have what it takes to give the Packers fits! Take a chance on Jimmy G!
Derrick Henry TEN v CIN(21st)(FD-$9,000)(DK-$7,500)(Y!-$38)
How excited are you to watch King Henry back on the field Saturday? I’m sure you have heard this one, but Derrick Henry #22 comes back on 1-22-22! Just too good to be true! All DFS formats skipped right ahead in terms of pricing! Fair enough! Derrick will be worth every penny of pounding power!
The 2021 NFL Playoffs are really lacking that stud star power at the running back position. Aside from Joe Mixon, Aaron Jones, and Derrick Henry, the position leaves a lot to be desired. Which, in a way, I love from a DFS perspective! Let’s dig in and discuss some game scripts!
Cam Akers LAR @ TB(9th)(FD-$5,700)(DK-$5,500)(Y!-$19)
Hate to speak for other people but it may be safe to say we all enjoyed seeing Cam back on the field and pounding the rock. Aside from the unfortunate collision with Arizona safety Budda Baker, Akers looked to be gaining some steam! This Rams offense will need to be dang near perfect against the Buccaneer’s defense to gain any ground. I’d expect Cam Akers to be a massive part of it all!
D’Onta Foreman TEN v CIN(21st)(FD-$5,500)(DK-$5,400)(Y!-$21)
Hate to bring up Derrick Henry in D’Onta’s blurb but Derrick is the unquestioned RB1. My thought process here is after a long stay on the injured reserve the backup still assumes a large portion of work as the RB1 gets up to speed and conditioning. Well, Derrick Henry is in a class of his own. I still do believe Foreman is granted receiving work. D’Onta is a sneaky good move to make this weekend!
Darrel Williams KC v BUF(18th)(FD-$5,500)(DK-$4,200)(Y!-$15)
Regardless of opinion about Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Darrel still has a certain amount of work built into this Kansas City offense. One little tidbit about my DFS and sports betting plan is to attack games with massive over/under totals. Kansas City vs. Buffalo sits at an astronomical 55.5 total points. So, realistically, I would be cool with not even knowing the actual players’ names. Only the offensive positional players. The guy plays running back for the Chiefs. Sign me up!
Giovani Bernard TB v LAR(11th)(FD-$5,400)(DK-$5,000)(Y!-$17)
If you’re like me, you had FOMO over not using and not mentioning Gio over Wild Card Weekend! Fear of missing out is a real thing but the beauty about Tampa Bay winning and moving on is the fact we will get another chance!
Sony Michel LAR @ TB(9th)(FD-$5,300)(DK-$5,300)(Y!-$18)
Sony has been a joy to watch as of late. He has also been one heck of a running back as of late. My opinion here is about the split share of touches between Sony and Akers as the Rams continue to roll in the NFL Playoffs. The Bucs defense is a strong unit that can do damage and shut you down. Aside from Cooper Kupp, the Ram’s best plan of attack here would be to implement both running backs early and often! The run opens the passing game and so on!
Ke’Shawn Vaughn TB v LAR(11th)(FD-$5,300)(DK-$4,700)(Y!-$16)
Let’s mention the elephant in the room, playoff Lenny. Leonard Fournette will be back active and ready to roll on Sunday. Which I find to be great news for all of us football fans. While Vaughn has played well in his absence, I can already tell you that casual DFS players are already jumping ship on Ke’Shawn. Do not make that same mistake! With only eight teams left alive, it’s an all-hands-on-deck type situation.
Derrick Gore KC v BUF(18th)(FD-$4,700)(DK-$4,000)(Y!-$10)
How much do you trust Clyde Edwards and his shoulder on Sunday evening? Sure, CEH may be active. Sure, CEH may even get the start. It is also in the realm of possibility that one or two huge knocks to his shoulder could land him on the sidelines. In no way do I think Gore is a slam dunk or must play but could be an outstanding move just in case Clyde does not finish this game. The type of move that wins you money!
Chris Evans CIN @ TEN(1st)(FD-$4,700)(DK-$4,000)(Y!-$10)
On paper, this is an awful move! Tennessee is very good against opposing running backs! To be clear they are first overall! However, they are 31st against wide receivers! The Bengals have used the rookie to return kicks and enjoy getting him in space. Mixon and Perine have the running covered. Chase, Tee, and Boyd have the receiving covered! Leaving Chris Evans as this floating option in-game where Cincinnati has nothing to lose! Chris Evans anytime touchdown, what say you?
Kyle Juszczyk SF @ GB(7th)(FD-$4,500)(DK-$4,100)(Y!-$10)
Yes, I know you’re laughing right now. I am grinning ear to ear right now! By the time this game kickoffs Saturday night, most folks will have covered it from top to bottom. Running programs and simulations for every single snap of this one. Not once, at all, will anybody mention the fullback, Kyle Juszczyk. No need to go all-in on him. Just a little taste will suffice!
Cooper Kupp LAR @ TB(6th)(FD-$9,500)(DK-$8,600)(Y!-$40)
We’re going on months now with Cooper Kupp being the most expensive player at the wide receiver position. What more can I say here? The opposing team does not matter. The opposing coaches do not matter. DFS pricing does not matter. Use Cooper in your DFS entries!
Another collection of positional players that I absolutely love! The top of the wide receiver pool this week is a collection of staggering talent! We should have no issue filling out our entries with superstar talent. That’s the easy part! I am here to help with the less desirable portion of your DFS building experience!
Odell Beckham Jr. LAR @ TB(6th)(FD-$6,500)(DK-$5,300)(Y!-$22)
How many of you have noticed all the hate, as of late, on OBJ? What about that boat photo wearing Timberlands being blamed as a curse for the Giants and Odell? While being a superstitious man I have never really gotten into curses or ghosts. All I know is OBJ has come alive and has been reinvigorated with LA and with Matthew Stafford as his quarterback. Beckham’s price tag, on both sites, is laughable and we need to take advantage of it! As this game progresses, I am expecting the Rams, McVay, and Stafford to take some big shots!
Tee Higgins CIN @ TEN(31st)(FD-$6,400)(DK-$5,700)(Y!-$22)
Once again, I hate starting a player blurb mentioning other players’ influence but here, we are. Ja’Marr Chase is a superstar that warrants not only our attention but the opposing defense’s attention. In some cases, defenses sell out to stop Chase while Tee and/or Boyd can run free! We should be licking our chops while looking at the match-up in Tennessee Saturday afternoon. Want to get wild? Roster all three of the Cincinnati Bengals wideouts in the same entry!
Allen Lazard GB v SF(28th)(FD-$6,000)(DK-$4,400)(Y!-$16)
While the Packers were on bye all warm and cozy last weekend, I was able to look around and to my surprise, Allen Lazard came up! This Green Bay offense runs through Davante Adams and Aaron Jones. That alone is enough to pass over all their other offensive weapons. Come to find out Aaron Rodgers has become very fond of Lazard on the field. You should be very fond of Allen this weekend in DFS formats!
Brandon Aiyuk SF @ GB(20th)(FD-$5,900)(DK-$5,200)(Y!-$18)
In a way, this article has been very easy to write this week. Under the pretense, there is no tomorrow, and anything goes. Of the four games this weekend the 49ers are the biggest underdog sitting at +6 points. Meaning, they really have nothing to lose! We all know Deebo Samuel will be fed and showcased while Aiyuk flies under the radar. Shocking to me he’s only $5,900 on Fanduel. Jump on this one!
Tyler Boyd CIN @ TEN(31st)(FD-$5,800)(DK-$4,800)(Y!-$20)
One of, if not, my favorite plays at the wide receiver position this weekend. Correct me if I’m wrong but Boyd really is just glossed over most weeks. We’ve ridden waves of value or read threads about his ability but at the end of it all folks turn to Chase and Higgins. Rightfully so but, start your builds with Tyler Boyd and see where it takes you!
Byron Pringle KC v BUF(1st)(FD-$5,700)(DK-$4,200)(Y!-$12)
One of my favorite things about sports, in general, is watching players, coaches, and even fans succeed! The same can be said for all of you that write or broadcast! If you’re enjoying yourself and having a blast, then it’s all love. When we get to Byron Pringle this kid has certainly climbed up the pecking order in the Chiefs offense! When you say fluke, I see dollar signs in my DFS entries. Let’s talk it out really quick, Mahomes, Hill, Kelce, and Pringle. Is that how you see the order in KC’s offense?
Emmanuel Sanders BUF @ KC(24th)(FD-$5,500)(DK-$5,500)(DK-$4,100)(Y!-$13)
Long gone are the days of Manny Sanders seeing double-digit targets. When one door closes another door opens as they say! Now we get the splash play, Manny Sanders! Two or three targets with the addition of a 30+ yard touchdown reception! The literal definition of an upside DFS play!
Gabriel Davis BUF @ KC(24th)(FD-$5,300)(DK-$4,600)(Y!-$16)
Remember when I said when one door closes another door opens? Yeah, that was pretty cool! Looking at Gabriel Davis in this spot is eerily like Emmanuel Sanders! Last week against New England both saw three targets. Both caught two passes and a touchdown. What are the chances we see almost identical stat lines for both boys in Kansas City? Based on the betting lines right now I’d say pretty good!
Breshad Perriman TB v LAR(23rd)(FD-$5,100)(DK-$4,000)(Y!-$11)
I have used this comparison before but how many times during the course of a game that Tom Brady has played in have you seen a graphic pop up about ball dispersal. Aaron Rodgers is famous for this too. Tom has attempted 40 passes and completed 25 of them to 10 different players? My point here is the systematic dissection, by TB12, on this Rams secondary. If you agree then find a place for Perriman in your DFS plans this weekend
Tyler Johnson TB v LAR(23rd)(FD-$5,000)(DK-$3,700)(Y!-$12)
Every season, without fail, the NFL Playoffs produce a superstar no one saw coming. Not in any way am I saying Tyler Johnson is going to be that superstar but, he is on my shortlist. All eye on Tampa Bay Sunday afternoon!
Jauan Jennings SF @ GB(20th)(FD-$5,000)(DK-$3,400)(Y!-$11)
Speaking of coming out of nowhere, in walks Jauan Jennings! The 24-year-old 49ers pass-catcher has put together an impressive string of games. Coming up big when needed the most. Moving the chains in dire situations. That kind of play sticks with the coaching staff and more importantly, his quarterback! Out of all the people on earth, right now, only a handful of them are predicting Frisco to win. The first step in doing so, aside from their defense, is getting to vibe on offense. I have this sneaking suspicion Jennings will be involved here.
Isaiah McKenzie BUF @ KC(24th)(FD-$4,800)(DK-$3,500)(Y!-$12)
McKenzie is part of the puzzle in Kansas City as a home run hitter in a massively high game total. If you’re looking to punt your last roster spot Isaiah is the play.
Chester Rogers TEN v CIN(12th)(FD-$4,700)(DK-$3,200)(Y!-$10)
In all seriousness, all eyes are on Julio Jones here. The surefire Hall of famer has had an awful 2021 season as his body has started to break down. There are several other storylines here but the road ahead, in Tennessee on Saturday, is wide open for Chester. I sound nuts, yes but there should be plenty of points to go around in this one.
Travis Kelce KC v BUF(1st)(FD-$8,200)(DK-$6,500)(Y!-$30)
Opposing defenses be damned Travis Kelce will always get his. At the start of the season, the idea to add in the most expensive player per position to put the other player’s pricing in perspective was a boring decision. As the season carried on it became fun to explore each stud mentioned in the article. It gave me free rein to be foolish while being informative. It’s Travis Kelce!
The Divisional Round of the NFL Playoffs are upon us and I am still punting the position! No harm! No foul! I find it to be more challenging this way! As the field gets cut down faded tight ends will get harder to do but I’m up for the task! Here is what I have for this weekend!
C.J. Uzomah CIN @ TEN(5th)(FD-$5,500)(DK-$3,400)(Y!-$15)
Talk about sweet! We can continue to safely use Uzomah with little to no risk! Unfortunately, people are starting to catch on! Which is fine! Isn’t that what we call chalk? Or a free square? Just makes it more fun to build the rest of our entries. Plus, I love saying UZZZZZZZomah!
Tyler Higbee LAR @ TB(19th)(FD-$5,400)(DK-$4,000)(Y!-$17)
Have you noticed that all the mistakes made or lack of production in the regular season are forgotten if you get it together in the playoffs! Ah, the beauty of Tyler Higbee and his Frankenstein-like seasonal rankings. That doesn’t matter anymore! Stafford and head coach Sean McVay is finding ways to get him involved!
Anthony Firkser TEN v CIN(28th)(FD-$5,200)(DK-$3,100)(Y!-$13)
Absolutely a shot in the dark but the higher seed, at home against a lowly ranked positional defense makes for a nice punt!
Josiah Degurara GB v SF(7th)(FD-$4,900)(DK-$3,000)(Y!-$10)
Was deciding whether to use this blurb on Marcedes Lewis or Deguara so I’ve chosen both guys. One of these men will catch a touchdown on Saturday night. If they both do best believe I will be playing the Power Ball on Monday!
Cameron Brate TB v LAR(10th)(FD-$4,500)(DK-$2,700)(Y!-$11)
I have noticed in the length of this article I have mentioned a few pecking orders. Wasn’t my plan but sometimes when you get flowing things just happen. So, we all know Gronk is the tight end master on this Tampa team, but Cam Brate has quietly seen a ton of snaps. Not saying those snaps have been productive from a fantasy points angle but given his low-price tag, being on the field a lot is a step in the direction.
Marcedes Lewis GB v SF(7th)(FD-$4,200)(DK-$2,600)(Y!-$10)
Was deciding whether to use this blurb on Marcedes Lewis or Deguara so I’ve chosen both guys. One of these men will catch a touchdown on Saturday night. If they both do best believe I will be playing Keno at the closest bowling alley on Monday!
Also, look for updates throughout the week as practice reports continue to update!
That is, it! Did I miss someone?
