Bottom of the Barrel Week 16 Quarterbacks NFL DFS Breakdown

December 20, 2022

Week 16 of the NFL season is upon us. Every year the football action goes faster and faster. Take for example, the 2022 NFL season. Feels like just yesterday I was at the NFL Draft planning and preparing for the season. Now, it is late December, and we are a few weeks away from the 2022 NFL Playoffs.

With Christmas on the horizon there is one simple idea I want to share. The holidays are about celebrating with family and friends. Getting together with those who are most important to share warm greetings. In a perfect world, that is. There are also folks who feel lonely and lost this time of the year.

I want to be clear here about my intentions in this week’s article. With Christmas being so close I want to extend my help. If you are feeling down, out, and lost please reach out to someone. I am always available to talk. I am always available to lend an ear. That feeling of despair and loneliness is no way to spend the holidays and self-harm is not the answer. If I can ever help, in any way, please reach out. Not only to me but anyone else around you willing to help.

Alone we can only do so much. Together we can achieve anything. Let’s spend this holiday season safely. Now, let’s talk about some NFL Week 16 daily fantasy sports!

I’ll get into all the details after a quick note about our new membership options! 😺

Quarterbacks

Oh! With it being this late in the NFL season DFS gets more interesting! Be careful where you look or how you build! Has your favorite team already locked up a playoff spot? Could be resting some star players. Or those same players might play limited snaps. This late in the year I have always loved stacking up teams, and games, from those still scratching and clawing for a playoff spot! Bottom of the Barrel this week will reflect that rationale!

Josh Allen BUF @ CHI(23rd)(FD-$9,500)(DK-$8,500)(Y!-$37)

The Bills are 11-3 and headed to the NFL Playoffs. The Bears are 3-11 and headed to vacation. How long can we expect to see Josh Allen play in this one? Regardless, Josh looks unfazed and better than ever headed to the post-season. Aside from Patrick Mahomes playing against the Seahawks at Arrowhead on Saturday, Josh has a sweet match-up. Awfully expensive price tag based on the what ifs? Still, lets expect 23-24 completions, 270 yards, 8-9 carries, 50 yards, and a pair of touchdown passes.

Daniel Jones NYG @ MIN(28th)(FD-$7,400)(DK-$5,600)(Y!-$28)

Danny completed 21 of his 32 attempts for only 160 yards while accumulating 35 yards on 10 carries Sunday as the Giants beat the Commanders on Sunday night. Was an odd game overall and very ho-hum for Jones. Daniel also ended a five-game streak of throwing, at least, one touchdown. Jones has now thrown for 170 yards, or less, in two straight games. Also, for the second time this season Jones put up fewer than 200 total yards and zero touchdowns. While some would say hands off and no thanks, I see it as a nice opportunity in DFS formats. The Vikings recently clinched the NFC North while also letting the lowly Colts hang 36 points! I see this one as a slam dunk for Jones 250, or more, passing yards along with 8-9 rushing attempts for another 40 yards!

Jared Goff DET @ CAR(15th)(FD-$7,000)(DK-$5,400)(Y!-$28)

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before. The Detroit Lions have won six of their last seven games and are still in the hunt for the 2022 post-season. You didn’t stop me cause this new territory for the Lions. Whatever is going on in Detroit I want more of it. Shockingly, the Panthers are also still in the mix for the playoffs! So, as mentioned in the opening, we have two teams here that will be going to war. Two teams absolutely get after it for a crucial must-win game. Given their recent success I am going to side with the Lions. Yes, I get it no surprise blah blah blah but, in all honesty, I have long put my personal feelings aside for the sake of good DFS content. I have Goff around 23-24 completions, 260 passing yards, two touchdowns, and a few carries for about ten yards.

Brock Purdy SF vs. WSH(16th)(FD-$6,900)(DK-$5,500)(Y!-$31)

Social media is a wild place! It is also very fun if used right. Early this morning I came across a thread on Twitter explaining how easily the NFC Championship game this year could pan out. More specifically, the San Francisco 49ers against the Detroit Lions! Come to find out it was well thought out and very informative and quite interesting! Let’s cool our jets and look at Week 16. Last Thursday Brock completed 17 of 26 passing attempts for 217 yards and two touchdowns. This kid has been terrific in his first two NFL starts! Upon closer inspection the 49er’s coaching staff is keeping it simple and Purdy has responded well! However, on Christmas eve the rookie is in for a rude awakening. This Washington defensive line comes at you fast, hard, and relentlessly! That is all well and good as a promotion tactic, but the way San Francisco offense is calling their plays Brock should do just fine. Shotgun snaps, quick outs, and quick slants are on the menu. Should be an interesting game plan. I am looking for 20-21 completions, 200 passing yards, two touchdowns, and 3-4 carries for another 10 yards.

Sam Darnold CAR vs. DET(32nd)(FD-$6,700)(DK-$5,100)(Y!-$26)

Back-to-back weeks for Sammy boy right here in Bottom of the Barrel! The story broke last night where Panthers interim head coach Steve Wilks told reporters Sam will be their starting QB once again in Week 16. Last Sunday Darnold completed 14 of 23 passes for 225 yards and a touchdown. Yet, the yardage was a season high for Sam and he did not turn the ball over. When we turn our attention to Week 16 against the Lions a few things come to mind. Carolina isn’t placing these unreasonable expectations on Sam, and they aren’t asking a lot of him. In turn he has managed the game and put-up respectable statistics. The Lions are absolutely going to get after Sam, but the Lions can also get burned in their secondary. The Panther’s aren’t asking for much out of Darnold and we should do the same. Given his cheap tag a similar stat line would be beautiful. Maybe a quick Sam to DJ Moore stack would play well on Saturday. I have Darnold around 16-17 competitions, 210 passing yards, two touchdowns, and 10-12 yards on the ground.

Desmond Ridder ATL @ BAL(20th)(FD-$6,400)(DK-$5,000)(Y!-$20)

Ridder completed only 13 passes out of 26 total pass attempts for 97 yards Sunday in New Orleans. Desmond also took off six times for 38 yards. Was a forgettable debut for the kid but good times lie ahead. The idea of Lamar Jackson playing this week for Baltimore has become a reality as the Ravens are 9-5 and still pushing for a playoff spot. At first glance one would say what does one have to do with the other? Well, I look at it as friendly competition has never hurt! Lamar pushing the pace of play, running wild, and scoring some points can only benefit Ridder, right? Again, let me remind you that I do not care who wins the game. All about box scores, stat lines, and yardage when it comes to DFS! One other observation with Ridder was the fact he targeted fellow rookie Drake London 11 times last week! Nothing crazy but maybe think about a mini-Falcons rookie stack with Drake and Ridder! I have Desmond around 15-16 completions, 175 passing yards, 5-6 carries, and 30-35 rushing yards. Also, the Falcons are still in the hunt for a playoff spot. Albeit slim, the NFC South is still up for grabs as Tampa sits first at 6-8, Carolina second at 5-8, New Orleans third at 5-9, and Atlanta forth at 5-9.

Good luck and let’s enjoy the week ahead! The holiday season has a different meaning to us all. So whatever little traditions you hold dear I hope they are as special as you remember! Happy holidays!
