Bottom of the Barrel Week 16 Running backs NFL DFS Breakdown
Bottom of the Barrel Week 16 Running backs NFL DFS Breakdown
December 2, 2022
Week 16 of the NFL season is upon us. Every year the football action goes faster and faster. Take for example, the 2022 NFL season. Feels like just yesterday I was at the NFL Draft planning and preparing for the season. Now, it is late December, and we are a few weeks away from the 2022 NFL Playoffs.
With Christmas on the horizon there is one simple idea I want to share. The holidays are about celebrating with family and friends. Getting together with those who are most important to share warm greetings. In a perfect world, that is. There are also folks who feel lonely and lost this time of the year.
I want to be clear here about my intentions in this week’s article. With Christmas being so close I want to extend my help. If you are feeling down, out, and lost please reach out to someone. I am always available to talk. I am always available to lend an ear. That feeling of despair and loneliness is no way to spend the holidays and self-harm is not the answer. If I can ever help, in any way, please reach out. Not only to me but anyone else around you willing to help.
Alone we can only do so much. Together we can achieve anything. Let’s spend this holiday season safely. Now, let’s talk about some NFL Week 16 daily fantasy sports!
Oh! With it being this late in the NFL season DFS gets more interesting! Be careful where you look or how you build! Has your favorite team already locked up a playoff spot? Could be resting some star players. Or those same players might play limited snaps. This late in the year I have always loved stacking up teams, and games, from those still scratching and clawing for a playoff spot! Bottom of the Barrel this week will reflect that rationale!
I’ll get into all the details after a quick note about our new membership options! 😺
We recently added membership options for Individual Sports here at Rise or Fall. If you wanted to subscribe to NFL Monthly or NFL Weekly without access to any of the other sports you now have that option!

Derrick Henry TEN vs. HOU(32nd)(FD-$9,800)(DK-$8,600)(Y!-$39)
In eleven games against the Texans in his career King Henry has accumulated: 202 attempts, 1,254 rushing yards, 11 TDs, and 6.21 yards/attempt. What can we expect this week? With it being the holiday season, I am sure the Texans will be generous with their defense so let’s call it 25, or more, attempts, 115 rushing yards, a touchdown, 3-4 targets, and another 30 yards. The easiest decision you can make this holiday season is King Henry in daily fantasy formats!
Rachaad White TB @ ARZ(26th)(FD-$6,700)(DK-$5,300)(Y!-$17)
Tampa Bay needs a win this week in the worst way! We all know the keys for success here with the Buccaneers. Pound the ball and target Godwin and Evans, a lot. With Fournette also in the mix I think this matchup is conducive to both backs having success! I have White around 11-12 carries, 55-60 yards, 3-4 receptions, and another 25 yards. It also helps that the Cardinals have allowed the sixth-most yards per carry (4.77) to backfields! Watch White average around 4.8 yards per in this one!
Devin Singletary BUF @ CHI(24th)(FD-$6,400)(DK-$5,400)(Y!-$19)
James Cook BUF @ CHI(24th)(FD-$5,300)(DK-$4,900)(Y!-$16)
Real simple idea here with Devin. The Bills are 11-3 and have clinched a Playoff spot. The Chicago Bears are 3-11 and have already been eliminated from playoff contention. So, what are the chances we still the Bills roll slow in this one? Ride Singletary and even rookie James Cook? Sure, Justin Fields is going to play his heart out while Buffalo just bides their time. The DvP match-up is sweet and would have no issue stacking up both Bill boys in one DFS entry. I have Devin at 12-13 carries, 60 yards, 2-3 receptions, and 20 yards. When we get to Cook let’s count on 9-10 carries, 50 yards, 2-3 receptions, and another 20 yards. Buffalo wins by about ten points.
D’Onta Foreman CAR vs. DET(8th)(FD-$6,100)(DK-$5,300)(Y!-$19)
Chuba Hubbard CAR vs. DET(8th)(FD-$6,000)(DK-$4,900)(Y!-$14)
On paper this isn’t an ideal match-up. The Lions are running hot and should, ideally, steam roll the Panthers in Carolina. So why would we bother with their two running backs? It is slim pickings at the RB spot this week. At least, cheap RBs that is. With both Panther backs we will get a ton of volume. Sam Darnold at QB is a shady business opportunity as mentioned in the quarterback article. However, with Foreman and Hubbard we should be able to account for every single back field touch. I am aware last week against the Steelers the Panthers only attempted 16 total rushes. That fact alone is enough for me to perk up and take a chance with D’Onta and Chuba! I have Foreman around 16-17 carries, 60 yards, and a pair of receptions for 10 yards. Let’s expect Chuba to have around 9-10 carries, 35-40 yards, 2-3 receptions, and 20 yards.
Gus Edwards BAL vs. ATL(19th)(FD-$5,700)(DK-$4,800)(Y!-$16)
The knock-on Gus is the fact J.K. Dobbins is back and healthy. Unfortunately, I do not believe Dobbins is healthy. J.K. is back sure but not 100%. So, at first glance most folks will just blindly fade Gus. I respect all of you who write the quick player updates. It takes a discipline I do not have. Yet, trusting everything we read might not be so smart. On the surface we skim and move along. Maybe that’s the issue, I question everything. Any which way you slice it Atlanta has the propensity to get gashed on the ground. Last week the Saints attempted 34 rushes and accumulated 134 yards on the ground. There is plenty of work and yardage to go around in this one for Gus!
Khalil Herbert CHI vs. BUF(9th)(FD-$5,500)(DK-$4,000)(Y!-$13)
Herbert is back! The Bears have designated Herbert (hip) for return from injured reserve on Tuesday! Khalil only spent the minimum four games on IR with his hip injury. He has been cleared to practice and play ahead of Chicago’s Week 16 match-up against the Bills. The second year back started the season strong and was headed for a bunch of meaningful work. That can still take place as the Bears go through their last games to end the season. Buffalo should have no issue winning this game on Saturday but that doesn’t mean Khalil Herbert is useless. Before going down this kid carried the ball 108 times for 643 yards. That is a 6-yard average per pop! Eight to nine carries for 40-45 yards seems reasonable for Herbert in Week 16. I have this sneaking suspicion he finds the endzone too on a 10–15-yard reception.
Kenny Gainwell PHI @ DAL(4th)(FD-$5,000)(DK-$4,400)(Y!-$10)
With Jalen Hurts sitting this one out let’s look for Kenny to get a little more run than usual. With the Eagles on the verge of clinching the NFC East I think we will see Philly run with some of their secondary players. I am aware the Cowboys are a tough test, and the NFC East hasn’t been decided yet but it’s just a process of elimination. Dallas is a few games back with only three games left to play. One win by the Eagles or one loss by the Cowboys and it’s over. Philadelphia wins the East. Again, with Jalen Hurts out and resting his shoulder the Cowboys may be aggressive looking to make some magic happen while the Eagles are happy to let the time tick away. Nothing crazy for Gainwell as I expect 5-6 carries, 20-25 yards, and a pair of receptions for another 20 yards.
Alexander Mattison MIN vs. NYG(23rd)(FD-$4,900)(DK-$4,700)(Y!-$12)
Remember when the Colts got up big last week and folks started to call the Vikings frauds? TO be fair, they had just lost to the Lions then got down like 30+ points to the lowly Colts. Well, Minnesota came back and won that game! Was one heck of a performance! Truth be told the Vikes have only Playoff seeding left to fight for which is basically a done deal anyways. They are NFC North Champions at 11-3 and assured a home Playoff game. Sitting at the #2 seed now they can do no worse than #3. So why would they bother with the health of Dalvin Cook or Justin Jefferson against a stout and nasty Giants DST? Hard to really project a stat line given the fact this entire blurb is just one big assumption. So, I have Alexander around 7-8 carries, 40 yards, and about 2-3 receptions for another 15-20 yards.
Jaylen Warren PIT vs. LV(28th)(FD-$5,100)(DK-$4,900)(Y!-$13)
There is something about Jaylen Warren I like. The Steelers offense has always been productive to the running-back position. Yet, the rookie has been inconsistent behind Najee Harris. Jaylen has rushed 53 times for 244 yards and a touchdown this year while snagging 21 of 24 targets for 178 yards. Last week against the Panthers he found the endzone for the first time in his young career. I do firmly believe we see more of Jaylen than usual in this one. The Raiders are buzzing after that wild ending against the Patriots but both teams are sitting at 6-8 and only playing for pride. I have Warren around 8-9 carries, 40-45 yards, and a reception or two for another 15 yards.
