Bottom of the Barrel Week 16 Wide Receivers NFL DFS Breakdown

December 23, 2022

Week 16 of the NFL season is upon us. Every year the football action goes faster and faster. Take for example, the 2022 NFL season. Feels like just yesterday I was at the NFL Draft planning and preparing for the season. Now, it is late December, and we are a few weeks away from the 2022 NFL Playoffs.

With Christmas on the horizon there is one simple idea I want to share. The holidays are about celebrating with family and friends. Getting together with those who are most important to share warm greetings. In a perfect world, that is. There are also folks who feel lonely and lost this time of the year.

I want to be clear here about my intentions in this week’s article. With Christmas being so close I want to extend my help. If you are feeling down, out, and lost please reach out to someone. I am always available to talk. I am always available to lend an ear. That feeling of despair and loneliness is no way to spend the holidays and self-harm is not the answer. If I can ever help, in any way, please reach out. Not only to me but anyone else around you willing to help.

Alone we can only do so much. Together we can achieve anything. Let’s spend this holiday season safely. Now, let’s talk about some NFL Week 16 daily fantasy sports!

Oh! With it being this late in the NFL season DFS gets more interesting! Be careful where you look or how you build! Has your favorite team already locked up a playoff spot? Could be resting some star players. Or those same players might play limited snaps. This late in the year I have always loved stacking up teams, and games, from those still scratching and clawing for a playoff spot! Bottom of the Barrel this week will reflect that rationale!

I’ll get into all the details after a quick note about our new membership options! 😺

Wide Receivers

Justin Jefferson MIN vs. NYG(12th)(FD-$9,300)(DK-$9,300)(Y!-$38)

Here we are, Week 16, and Justin Jefferson has become the best wide receiver on the planet. We are all entitled to our own opinion, and it could be a good fun discussion, but Justin is HIM. Minnesota head coach Kevin O’Connell told reporters that Jefferson suffered a “rib chest contusion” during last week’s game against the Colts. Have no fear Jefferson was active in practice all week and has no limitations for Saturday’s game against the Giants. We can slot him in our daily fantasy sports entries, our seasonal fantasy playoff matches, and bet all the yardage overs we can find! I am expecting 10-11 targets, 8-9 receptions, 110+ yards, and a touchdown. It’s Christmas and let it snow TD’s!

Darius Slayton NYG @ MIN(30th)(FD-$6,300)(DK-$5,200)(Y!-$19

Darius Slayton only caught four passes for 23 yards last Sunday against the Commanders. All well and good given the opposing team and game flow last Sunday night. Without doubt we should expect a big time bounce back game from not only Slayton but the New York Giants team. This game strikes me as one of those 50/50 on the fence efforts from the Vikings as the Giants pour their hearts out on the field looking to make it to the post-season. I have Slayton around 7-8 targets, 5-6 receptions, 65-70 yards, and a touchdown!

Chris Moore HOU @ TEN(32nd)(FD-$6,100)(DK-$4,700)(Y!-$18)

Houston is a bad football team, on paper at least.  Record wise they are 1-12-1. I would classify that as bad. However, in the last two weeks, Houston has played well and shown some heart! In Week 14 Dallas had to score late to beat Houston  27-23. Week 15 the Texans forced overtime with the Chiefs but lost 24-30 as Jet McKinnon stunned the home crowd on a 26-yard touchdown run. So, in my opinion, the Texans have shown some heart in the last few weeks. They have also shown Chris Moore some love, targeting him 19 total times in the last two games! One phenomenal week and one pedestrian type of week. Hopefully Mr. Moore can find some middle ground this week against the last ranked Titans defense against opposing wide receivers! Let’s go for the gold here as I have Chris around 7-8 targets, 5-6 receptions, and 70 yards. Moore is averaging 11.7 yards per reception so 6 x 11.7 = 70.2. How is that for a stocking stuffer?

K.J. Osborn MIN vs. NYG(12th)(FD-$6,100)(DK-$4,500)(Y!-$17)

K.J. had a career game in Week 15! Osborn caught 10 passes for 157 yards and a touchdown! Look, I do think there is a time where Osborn will climb that Vikings pecking order for targets and such but it’s not anytime soon. Down the road when Thielen retires or walks away maybe K.J. gets the bump but for right now we’re looking at 3-4 targets a game. More specifically, this week, against the Giants I can see Minnesota utilizing a bit more than normal given what is at stake or what is ahead for the Vikes. I feel good saying 5-6 targets, 3-4 receptions, and about 45-50 yards. For some odd reason I have this feeling he finds the endzone again. Something about that back-to-back touchdown narrative is doing it for me.

Demarcus Robinson BAL vs. ATL(27th)(FD-$6,000)(DK-$4,000)(Y!-$15)

Robinson caught six passes for 29 yards in Cleveland for Week 15. Was an ugly nasty game for the Ravens as they only scored three points! On a positive note, well, maybe not. Mid-blurb I was under the assumption Lamar Jackson was going to be good to go on Saturday against the Falcons. Straight the Sleeper.com website, “The Ravens have ruled Jackson (knee) out for Saturday’s game against the Falcons.” So, everything fun and exciting I wanted to say about D-Rob and the Ravens aren’t completely wasted and gone but not as good as expected. So, on the fly we would have to assume that Baltimore is able to score more than 3 points, right? Specifically, I have them down for around 17 total points. I also have Demarcus at 6-7 targets, 4-5 receptions, and 45-50 yards.

Marquise Goodwin SEA @ KC(29th)(FD-$5,800)(DK-$4,300)(Y!-$19)

News just broke that both Noah Fant and Marquise Goodwin are expected to play Saturday in Kansas City. To make matters worse, or better, depending on what side you’re on, Tyler Lockett is officially out and not playing. So, on the bright side Goodwin will be bumped up on the depth chart and now become the Seahawks number two wide receiver Saturday. Maybe I am nuts, but the trio of DK Metcalf, Ken Walker III, and Goodwin has some DFS appeal to me! Get this Marquise Goodwin has more TD receptions (4) than Mike Evans, Keenan Allen, Diontae Johnson, Michael Pittman Jr., Terry McLaurin, Courtland Sutton, and Juju Smith-Schuster! Wild, right? Let’s expect 5-6 targets, 4-5 receptions, and 60-65 yards. Shoot, I want to say 70 total but then I’d really be off my rocker. Based on the fact he’s averaging 14.3 yards per catch 70 yards isn’t that crazy!

Jahan Dotson WSH @ SF(21st)(FD-$5,700)(DK-$3,900)(Y!-$17)

Dotson was second in routes ran last week on Sunday night for the Commanders. Kid looked good and played well on his way to his first career 100-yard receiving day! At first glance most folks will fade just based on the opposing defense. Which I get but let’s be honest here, Dotson is listed third on Washingtons WR depth chart. Plus, Brian Robinson and Antonio Gibson must be accounted for. I am aware that the 49ers DST is very good and very fast but realistically on a play-to-play basis guys are going to get open and/or fall through the defensive cracks. I have Dotson around 6-7 targets, 4-5 receptions, 45-50 yards, and a touchdown! Let the kid go to work and enjoy some success this holiday season!

DJ Chark Jr. DET @ CAR(22nd)(FD-$5,700)(DK-$4,200)(Y!-$16)

The Detroit Lions are rolling, and their offense has been outstanding! Yet, have they entered that, “let’s use any player we can from this offense” territory? Much like Kansas City or Buffalo? To be clear, not comparing them to either team but the idea is there, right? In Carolina this Saturday the entire Lions offense should be able to run free. I see no issues with DvP or other matchups, so I find it to be a good idea to mix-and-match some of the less owned Lions. Let’s pencil in Chark Jr. for around 5-6 targets, 3-4 receptions, and about 55-60 yards. DJ is currently averaging 15.4 yards a catch, so the yardage projection isn’t that far-fetched.

Rashid Shaheed NO @ CLE(15th)(FD-$5,600)(DK-$3,500)(Y-$13)

If you read Bottom of the Barrel last week then you are aware of the love for Rashid. How did he repay us? Shaheed caught three passes for 95 yards, including a 68-yard touchdown! It was awesome. As we look ahead to Week 16, I find him to be out of that weird “punt bubble” where a player is no more than a cheap dart throw. The Saints have actively been getting him more involved which is great news for us DFSers! What is great about a player like Rashid is his average yards per catch, 22.3, and continued low cost make him the perfect last-minute DFS stocking stuffer for our entries!
