Bottom of the Barrel Week 17 Quarterback NFL DFS Breakdown

December 27, 2022

As a kid Christmas felt like this month-long magical event. Multiple parties with friends and family with endless food and presents. As a boy I had to fight to stay awake. As an adult it comes and goes in the blink of an eye. As a man I willingly go to sleep early.

The week after Christmas leading up to the New Year has always been this weird nothing matters and nothing to do time. As a kid it was this endless time to hang out with your friends, play outside, or try out the newest video games! As an adult it’s about dodging calls, laying low, and being left alone.

The more things change the more they stay the same. Deep down we all know if put to the test we could stay up late and hang out with the best of them. That Christmas magic never really goes away, it just takes on a different meaning. Hopefully you had a peaceful and fulfilling holiday! One more to go, the New Year!

Let’s use some of the Christmas cash to boost our daily fantasy sports entries and winnings! All done responsibly, of course! Week 17 is upon us and here are some players and ideas I am rolling with.

I’ll get into all the details after a quick note about our new membership options! 😺

We recently added membership options for Individual Sports here at Rise or Fall. If you wanted to subscribe to NFL Monthly or NFL Weekly without access to any of the other sports you now have that option!

All memberships come with Discord access, but, only the Monthly All Access for $39.99 comes with a $20 monthly credit to Fantasy Cruncher.

Patrick Mahomes KC vs. DEN(1st)(FD-$9,000)(DK-$8,500)(Y!-$37)

Patrick Mahomes only completed 16 passes out of 28 total attempts for 224 yards and two touchdowns. He also added one score on the ground, at home, against the Seahawks. What more can we say about Pat? Guys has been a stone-cold stud for all our DFS lines, seasonal fantasy playoffs, and in real life. Believe it or not the Broncos are 1st against opposing quarterbacks and wide receivers! Last week it looked as if the Chiefs wanted to establish the run and get that rolling. This week, having already won the AFC West, what are the chances we get a toned-down Kansas City offense? Not too much on the line here for KC so I would look elsewhere for my DFS QB in Week 17.

Jared Goff DET vs. CHI(24th)(FD-$7,400)(DK-$5,600)(Y!-$30)

Never thought there would be a date and time where I looked at the Lions as this vengeful angry team out for blood. Yet here we are! December 27, 2022! Detroit was embarrassed and thoroughly defeated on Christmas Eve. They can still pick up the pieces and it starts Sunday against the Bears. However, Goff did complete 25 passes for 355 yards and three touchdowns! At this moment in time Jared ranks sixth in both passing yards and touchdowns this season. I see no reason why Goff, and the Lions, cannot hang 30+ points with Jared tossing another pair of touchdowns. Specifically, I have Goff at 23-24 completions, 270 yards, and two scores.

Daniel Jones NYG vs. IND(16th)(FD-$7,300)(DK-$5,700)(Y!-$30)

If you are still reading Bottom of the Barrel in Week 17 then it safe to assume you are a daily fantasy sports die hard. If that is the case then you are aware of the fact sometimes, we stack teams, players, and games strictly based on the opposing team. That is the case here with the Colts. Unfortunately, the wheels have completely fallen off as they continue to take beating after beating. On the flip side the Giants are still holding onto that second NFC Wild Card spot. Daniel continues to hang large yardage totals as a passer, but the touchdown passes just aren’t there. Jones only has three multiple touchdowns pass games this season. Daniel also has five rushing touchdowns this year. The Colts are having a tough time defending opposing quarterbacks as of late so I wouldn’t be shocked to see that ‘all hands-on deck’ approach Sunday. Let’s plan on 19-20 competitions, 230 yards, 7-8 carries, 40 yards, and two total touchdowns for Daniel on Sunday.

Tom Brady TB vs. CAR(21st)(FD-$7,200)(DK-$6,100)(Y!-$26)

I know what you’re thinking right now. I am thinking the same thing. Is Tom washed up and done? Well, I wouldn’t go that far but he’s not that fine-tuned polished Brady we have watched for so long. Last week, against the Cardinals he attempted 48 passes and completed 32 of them for 281 yards. He also tossed up two interceptions to a bland Arizona secondary. He looked flustered and was not at all on the same page as his receivers. Mike Evans has been relegated to this risky and untrustworthy wide receiver while Godwin has become this target hog must-play wide-out. Don’t know about you but I have been used to both guys being can’t miss studs on a weekly basis. It all starts and ends with Tom. As the Buccaneers slowly head into the postseason I refuse to bet against Brady. Certain folks have waited for this exact moment for 20 years. Yet, every time we bet against Tom; he makes us look foolish. Do with that information as you see fit. I have TB12 at 27-28 completions, 290-300 yards, and three touchdowns.

Aaron Rodgers GB vs. MIN(28th)(FD-$7,100)(DK-$6,000)(Y!-$27)

Here we are again with this guy and this team. From down and dead to alive and well. Quite frankly, I am sick of this guy, but I do respect the hell out of him. A few weeks back, at home, Green Bay beat the Rams on Monday Night Football. Soon as the clock hit 0.0, they grabbed Rodgers to ask him a few questions where he gives some bullshit reply and it hit me. Green Bay was about to go on yet another run leaving everywhere in their wake trashed. Here in Week 17 the Vikings have already clinched the NFC North after beating the Giants. In no way am I expecting Minnesota to lay down and let the Packers run over them but in all seriousness are the Vikings going to give the Packers their best shot? My guess is no as Aaron Rodgers completes 22-23 passes, 270 yards, and tosses three touchdowns. Every flipping year with this guy!

Brock Purdy SF @ LV(26th)(FD-$7,000)(DK-$5,500)(Y!-$29)

This kid keeps hanging and banging and living the high life as the 49ers’ starting quarterback! Last week Purdy completed 15 of 22 pass attempts for 234 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. The Brock to Kittle connection is strong as both touchdown passes went to George. Also, San Francisco is your new number one team in the NFL power rankings. Again, that kind of thing is merely for fun and entertainment but does tell a story. That story has just started as the 49ers head to Vegas on Sunday afternoon. The Raiders are 23rd in the league as they give up 23.3 points a game. While San Francisco is 1st as they only give up 15.3 points a game. I could go on and on listing all the numbers and ranks in comparison of both teams but one this is clear, San Francisco is legit, and they are dangerous. A team like the 49ers with such a dominating defense helps the offense. Brock isn’t asked to do too much. A few quick outs to McCaffrey, finding Kittle across the middle, and looking Aiyuk’s way down the field from time to time is a recipe for success. I have Purdy around 20-21 completions, 245-250 yards, and two touchdown passes. The Raiders are also 26th against opposing RBs so we could spin that in favor of Purdy too.

Mike White NYJ @ SEA(22nd)(FD-$7,000)(DK-$5,400)(Y!-$29)

I have never been fond of trashing people. When I was growing up my friends and I ripped on each other, but it was all good fun. However, Zach Wilson is flat out bad. A massive mistake made by the Jets but in football history it will be glossed over and forgotten about. Mr. White hurt his ribs as we know and has been out for a few weeks. Well, Mike White has been cleared to play this week in Seattle! The Jets offense averaged 421.3 total yards per game with White under center, which would rank first in the NFL. With Zach starting at QB, the Jets have only averaged 269 yards per game, which would rank last. Not much in life is this clear. Not much in football is this cut and dry. Yet, the Jets with Mike White at quarterback is an exciting thing! Just so happens that the Seahawks are 7-8 and, on the outside, looking in for the NFL Playoffs. The New York Jets are also 7-8 8 and, on the outside, looking in for the NFL Playoffs. Make no mistake, this Jets at Seahawks game is a playoff game! We should lock and load Mike at 24-25 completions, 280-290 yards, and two touchdown passes!

Mac Jones NE vs. MIA(31st)(FD-$7,000)(DK-$5,000)(Y!-$23)

Mac Jones completed 21 of 33 passes for 240 yards and two touchdowns in the Patriots loss to the Bengals on Christmas Eve. Now, let’s talk about the elephant in the room. Is Mac Jones a nasty and dirty player? After that tweet made the rounds all weekend it is hard to discount. Without sounding like a jerk, it doesn’t matter to me or our DFS lines. The Dolphins lost to the Packers and are hanging on to that 3rd Wild Card spot by the skin of their teeth. Tua is back in concussion protocol, and I doubt he will play Sunday. Mac and the Pats have a shot here to improve their playoff chances. Does Mac Jones have it in him to get it done? I have Mr. Jones at 22-23 completions, 235-240 yards, 2-3 carries, and another 10 yards.

Desmond Ridder ATL vs. ARZ(25th)(FD-$6,300)(DK-$5,000)(Y!-$21)

How in the hell do I add a rookie quarterback back in the article who has yet to account for a touchdown? Well, in my eyes Ridder looked more comfortable in his second career game. On a positive note, he more than doubled his yardage total from last week. He has also found a new favorite target in fellow rookie Drake London! London has led the team in targets, receptions, and receiving yards since the Falcons gave the starting gig to Desmond. Now it becomes only a matter of time for the rookie QB! If ever there was a time it would be this week against the lowly Cardinals. Arizona is allowing 26.1 points a game, 30th in the NFL. The Falcons are also hammering 160.8 rush yards a game, 3rd in the NFL. These two teams have already been eliminated from playoff contention and will hopefully open their offensive playbooks. Sign me up!

That’ll do it for this week’s Bottom of the Barrel Week 17 Quarterback NFL DFS Breakdown. Thanks for reading! Running backs article out next and soon!
