Bottom of the Barrel Week 18

Just when you think you’ve seen it all things get weirder. Welcome to Week 18 of the NFL season! It’s basically like Who Line is it Anyways? The roster is all made up and the records don’t matter! A lot to discuss here but I won’t keep you long, promise!

There is going to be a thin line here with some of the starting QBs on playoff teams. How long do they play? Who is the backup? Can we trust said backup? Then we comb through the wasteland of 2nd and 3rd string running backs along with the depth wide receivers on each team. It’s not all bad though! We can count on several teams and several players. For example, the Buffalo Bills and New England Patriots. Both teams have clinched playoff spots, but the AFC East title is still up for grabs. Buffalo hosts the Jets at 4:25p while the Patriots are in Miami at the same time.

I would also say we can throw out DvP (defense vs position) this week based on a widespread idea that certain defensive units and players will be being rested. For example, a team like the Green Bay Packers is locked in as the #1 seed. They are also ranked 8th against running backs and wide receivers. I’d imagine due in large part to Kenny Clark, De’Vondre Campbell, and Preston Smith. If the Packers decide to rest their defensive studs in a meaningless game do their backups carry the same weight?

In all honesty each week I look at a ton of numbers to best formulate a plan and add players in good spots. I also make up my own predictive game scripts for each contest. Helps me see the slate and each game from a 10,000-foot view. Not only the high-priced studs but also the second and third quarters while predicting which backups at low cost should get some run. As we turn our attention to Week 18 there are several games that fit the bill. Some teams need a win to get in. Some teams are already locked in. Meaning we are looking at back-ups. Let me do the work and give you the best possible players in the best possible scenarios to cash in big time!

QUARTERBACK

Josh Allen BUF v NYJ(28th)(FD-$8,800)(DK-$8,100)(Y!-$40)

This one should be a blood bath as Buffalo needs a win and a Patriots loss to clinch the AFC East. In an odd way, it isn’t fair given the fact the Patriots have a tougher match-up against Miami. We will see the full power of Josh Allen and the Bills here. Buffalo by a million!

As we dig into quarterbacks this week and you scroll down the list your first thought will be to laugh or make fun of me. Easy now! I am looking forward to several situations this week, across the board, that no one sees coming! The kind of attitude that can win us a ton of cash! Here we go!

Matthew Stafford LAR v SF(17th)(FD-$7,400)(DK-$5,800)(Y!-$29)

In all honesty, my first thought here is excitement! Stafford is an outstanding man and really did love the city of Detroit. I am very happy and proud that Matt was given this chance and will be back in the NFL Playoffs. I also believe the buzz around this team and giddiness will propel the Rams to a win as they hang 30+ points.

Carson Wentz IND @ JAX(25th)(FD-$7,200)(DK-$5,800)(Y!-$26)

Not to be rude but there is no way the Colts lose here, right? As it stands now, they are giving Jacksonville 15.5 points and I still think Indianapolis covers! Given his price tag, Carson Wentz looks glorious for daily fantasy purposes in Week 18!

Kirk Cousins MIN v CHI(27th)(FD-$7,200)(DK-$6,100)(Y!-$31)

Maybe I am partial, but I love a good NFC North match-up to end the season. Also, were you able to catch the Viking’s last performance with Sean Mannion at the helm? Not good. Bad news. Having Kirk back will make all the difference in the offense performance from start to finish.

Justin Fields CHI @ MIN(26th)(FD-$7,100)(DK-$5,400)(Y!-$28)

Little early in the week to predict if Justin plays or not. By all accounts, the Bear’s coaching staff has given us some optimistic news in stating “we shall see as the week progresses.” Meaning, to me, it’s 50/50 right now. Which, last I checked, is better than firm no.

Trey Lance SF @ LAR(5th)(FD-$7,000)(DK-$5,500)(Y!-$25)

Trey performed well in his first career start last week. Unfortunately, the permanent starting role is not his. Meaning, if Jimmy G is cleared and ready to play, he’s the guy. It’s a situation to monitor as the week progresses. Last I looked, Jimmy is still beat up. This contest has all the drama we crave as NFL fans. Division rivalry and the 49ers need to win to get in. They are currently sitting with the 2nd Wild Card spot.

Mac Jones NE @ MIA(8th)(FD-$7,000)(DK-$5,400)(Y!-$22)

Are any of you Dragon Ball Z fans? To be clear I am not but I am aware of the Super Saiyan reference in popular culture. Would it be shocking to see Belichick and the Patriots use Mac Jones in a way where he goes nuts and/or Super Saiyan on their way to another AFC East Championship? Just in time for another deep playoff run!

Tyler Huntley BAL v PIT(18th)(FD-$7,000)(DK-$5,700)(Y!-$27)

Tyler is obviously only in play if Lamar Jackson misses another game. Over the years I have found it better to plan with my fantasy sports teams. When it comes to DFS I have adopted the same rationale. The last thing you want to do is panic pivot with two minutes left before the lock!

Tim Boyle DET v GB(24th)(FD-$6,800)(DK-$4,900)(Y!-$23)

You probably think I am out of mind with this one. Jokes on you! I am always out of mind when it comes to DFS! Jokes aside, if this was the full-strength Green Bay Packers, I would not touch Tim with a 10-foot pole. However, Sunday in Detroit we should see a slew of backups from the Pack. Green Bay is already locked in as the NFC North Champs along with the #1 overall seed. Nothing to be gained or lost in this one. As a professional football quarterback, I’d assume Tim can do some damage, right?

Jordan Love GB @ DET(21st)(FD-$6,700)(DK-$5,000)(Y!-$25)

I have dangled the idea of Aaron Rodgers sitting this one out for a few days. Wasn’t met with any criticism only the fact A-Rod has already said he wants to play. Well, why wouldn’t he? The guy is a legend. Folks do as he says. Realistically if Rodgers wants to play, he will play. Something to monitor but if Matt Lafleur sits him down and paints a Super Bowl picture maybe we will see Jordan Love in Detroit on Sunday.

Mitch Trubisky BUF v NYJ(28th)(FD-$6,400)(DK-$5,000)(Y!-$25)

Full disclosure, when I sat down over the weekend to get my notes together, I assumed the Bills were in the NFL Playoffs and fully assumed Josh Allen would not play. Upon further inspection, Buffalo and New England are still at odds for the AFC East. After digging a little bit more, the Bills are playing the Jets. How fast is this one going to get out of hand? So, I stand by my Mitch Trusbisky claim here! We will, in fact, see Mitch in-game action on Sunday!

RUNNING BACK

Jonathan Taylor IND @ JAX(22nd)(FD-$10,200)(DK-$9,300)(Y!-$40)

The Colts currently have hold of the second AFC Wild Card spot. A win here would solidify their playoff spot. Plan on being fed a heavy dose of JT in this one. Heck, would anyone be surprised to see Taylor with 100 yards and a few touchdowns, in the first half?

Much like my quarterback intro I want to warn you about the running backs mentioned as you thumb through. It’s like skid row out there in Week 18. It’s going to be disturbing. I picture you scrolling through like walking through a haunted house. You will probably gasp, be shocked, and maybe get angry. Just know I have your best interests in mind.

Devin Singletary BUF v NYJ(32nd)(FD-$6,700)(DK-$6,000)(Y!-$23)

Is it weird to say the Bills go as Devin Singletary goes?

Jaret Patterson WSH @ NYG(25th)(FD-$6,600)(DK-$5,300)(Y!-$18)

This kid has been outstanding as of late. Yes, the Football Team completely fell apart this season but that’s only a storyline for the gossipers. As far as Week 18 goes I firmly believe we see an absolute ton of J-Pat.

Chase Edmonds ARZ v SEA(31st)(FD-$6,600)(DK-$5,800)(Y!-$21)

Chase is in play for me this week with or without James Conner in the lineup. No matter which way you slice it the Seahawks are a civ against opposing running backs. Edmonds, to me, is a lock-in all my entries this week.

Cordarrelle Patterson ATL v NO(2nd)(FD-$6,200)(DK-$6,400)(Y!-$18)

Can’t keep a good man down long! I am aware that Patterson has had a less than desirable three-game stretch. I am also aware the Saints are strong and stout against opposing running backs. Fading C-Pat here seems too easy. Even a casual DFS player will toss him aside based on his game long as of late and match-up. Something in my DFS experience says to use Cordarrelle this week.

Jamaal Williams DET v GB(8th)(FD-$6,000)(DK-$4,800)(Y!-$18)

The idea behind Jamaal Williams in Week 18 is quite simple. Two teams headed in opposite directions this year with the thought anything goes. Another running back is in play regardless of the depth charts status. With or without Swift in this one, Jamaal gets to battle his own team. What’s not to like?

Patrick Taylor GB @ DET(30th)(FD-$5,600)(DK-$4,000)(Y!-$15)

I know it’s a wild idea to consider a Green Bay running back aside from Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon. I believe we see a lot of AJ Dillion to start this one and as the game continues, they will transition to Patrick Taylor. How do I know? I don’t! That’s the beauty of this whole thing. We just step up and take big swings!

Devonta Freeman BAL v PIT(26th)(FD-$5,600)(DK-$5,200)(Y!-$17)

I cannot be the only one who thinks these two teams just beat up on each other in anger after the Cincinnati Bengals have won the AFC North right?

Dontrell Hilliard TEN @ HOU(29th)(FD-$5,600)(DK-$5,200)(Y!-$18)

Thank you, D’Onta Foreman! You can rest this week! Foreman has been an outstanding DFS play the last few weeks along with being a staple in Bottom of the Barrel during that time. The Titans have clinched the AFC South, so I see no reason why their starters play long in this one. Heck, their back-ups may still wail on the Texans!

Dare Ogunbowale JAX v IND(5th)(FD-$5,600)(DK-$5,200)(Y!-$13)

Using Dare on Sunday is a bad move. Which, in turn, makes it a good move. With Dare, we go all away around the awful meter that it makes its way back to the good portion.

Devontae Booker NYG v WSH(15th)(FD-$5,400)(DK-$5,000)(Y!-$11)

DFS is so hit or hit miss and especially this season. Booker has also been a staple in this article throughout the last few weeks and made good on it last week! Devontae received 20 total touches in Week 17 against the Bears. It has been a completely lost season for the Giants and studs RB Saquon Barkley. Given the direction or lack thereof, no way do they push Saquon in this one. End the season, get out healthy, and be done.

Ty Johnson NYJ @ BUF(16th)(FD-$5,400)(DK-$4,900)(Y!-$12)

Normally I would skip right past any Jets this last in the season. Then something caught my eye! An opening to usage if you will! Rookie Michael Carter is in the concussion protocol. Tevin Coleman is also still on the COVID-IR. That leaves Ty Johnson as the lone wolf in this backfield!

Zack Moss BUF v NYJ(32nd)(FD-$5,300)(DK-$5,000)(Y!-$15)

It’s been an up-down season for those of us who were into Zack. One week in street clothes, next suited up. If you have waited this long with Moss, then congrats! I think he has officially surpassed Matt Breida on the depth chart. Not saying much but, this week’s opponent should pique your interest!

Derrick Henry TEN @ HOU(29th)(FD-$5,000)(DK-$7,100)(Y-$38)

The Titans have designated Derrick Henry to return from the IR ahead of Week 18. Few ways to go here with the King. With a win against the Texans, they will secure the first overall seed, home-field advantage, and a first-round bye. On paper, this should be a no-brainer. However, with the combo of Foreman and Hilliard do they give Henry some run? Let him shake off the rust against a bad Houston defense? Or play it the same with what they have? Allowing Henry, a full two weeks of weights and practice to prepare for a deep playoff run? As you can see there are more questions than answers. For DFS purposes the King is just too cheap to ignore on Fanduel. Both DraftKings and Yahoo! have caught up with their pricing. Play at your own risk!

Nyheim Hines IND @ JAX(22nd)(FD-$5,100)(DK-$5,500)(Y!-$14)

Will keep this blurb short and sweet. The Colts will absolutely pound the Jaguars into submission, clinch a playoff spot on the strength of a big day from JT leaving Hines to clean up in the second half.

Chris Evans CIN @ CLE(14th)(FD-$4,900)(DK-$4,400)(Y!-$10)

Is the battle for Ohio even a real thing? Either way, right now, it’s all about the Bengals! Having beaten out the Ravens and Steelers for the North title! The way this season has gone there is just no way they risk the health of Burrow, Mixon, Chase, Tee, and Boyd along with any other starters. Chris Evans is a talented kid who should have his moment On Sunday!

Wendell Smallwood WSH @ NYG(25th)(FD-$4,900)(DK-$4,000)(Y!-$10)

Any chance I can interest you in a Jaret Patterson and Wendell Smallwood stack on Sunday? This is my kind of nuts! Run it!

WIDE RECEIVER

Cooper Kupp LAR v SF(23rd)(FD-$10,000)(DK-$9,700)(Y!-$41)

It’s Week 18 of the NFL season you don’t need me or this article to vouch for Cooper Kupp. The biggest no-brainer of all time. Well, it’s close between him and Jonathan Taylor.

Now that the horror show portion of running backs is over, I am here to tell you it’s not going to get much better with wide receivers. I promise I am not willing to make fun of or put my own work down. I am just having some fun! Let’s explore!

DJ Moore CAR @ TB(14th)(FD-$6,100)(DK-$5,800)(Y!-$15)

Who would’ve thought that in Week 18 of the NFL season some folks, including me, would be reliant on Sam Darnold’s connection with DJM? Oof.

Marquez Callaway NO @ ATL(27th)(FD-$5,900)(DK-$5,000)(Y!-$17)

I am all about the Saints this week against the Falcons. Just so happens after playing iny miny miny mo it landed on Marquez Callaway. Obviously makes for an outstanding stack with Taysom Hill.

Van Jefferson Jr. LAR v SF(23rd)(FD-$5,800)(DK-$5,100)(Y!-$17)

Van has been safe for several weeks on end now. In an odd way, Jefferson Jr. could also be used in your cash games. However, one of these weeks the kid is going to explode. Why not Week 18?

Chase Claypool PIT @ BAL(30th)(FD-$5,800)(DK-$5,100)(Y!-$18)

Chase has laid low for a few weeks now after folks trashed him for celebrating in the 4th with no timeout’s blah blah blah. More importantly, the Steelers need to win on Sunday and get some major help if they are to make the playoffs. Looking at the DvP match-up here not only Diontae Johnson will get some.

Allen Robinson II CHI @ MIN(32nd)(FD-$5,500)(DK-$4,000)(Y!-$15)

One last regular season hoorah with my guy Allen Robinson. The optics don’t look good though. Week 17 was the seventh time in ten games A-Rob was held to 35 yards or less. Just give us one awesome game this season Allen, please?

Allen Lazard GB @ DET(18th)(FD-$5,500)(DK-$4,600)(Y!-$18)

In no way am I discounting the stud factor of Davante Adams here, but Lazard has been awesome as of late. If you watched the Sunday Night Football game, it’s pretty clear not only Rogers but the GB coaching staff trusts this kid.

Antonie Wesley ARZ v SEA(11th)(FD-$5,400)(DK-$4,100)(Y!-$10)

What an absolute pleasure this kid was last week! Five targets and two touchdowns in Week 17 after being mentioned right here in Bottom of the Barrel! Not at all taking credit for Wesley’s performance! That would be cringy but, I think we’re in a good spot to run in back with him in Week 18!

Kristian Wilkerson NE @ MIA(16th)(FD-$5,300)(DK-$3,300)(Y!-$14)

What an absolute pleasure this kid was last week! See what I did there? In all honesty, were his two touchdown receptions fluky? Uh, yeah what else would you call it? In any other situation, this would be a good thing! Can look forward to a few more targets or playing time next time out. Given the seriousness of this game, I don’t think we can completely dismiss Kristian. Plus, if Mac goes Super Saiyan so will the offense around him.

Cyril Grayson TB v CAR(6th)(FD-$5,600)(DK-$4,400)(Y!-$18)

Speaking of fluky here we are with Cyril. I honestly had to investigate this guy. A 28-year-old wideout literally showing out on Tampa Bay’s opening drive! Given the state of the Bucs wide receiver room, I think it’s safe to a lot this guy a few more targets in Week 18.

Laquon Treadwell JAX v IND(20th)(FD-$5,300)(DK-$4,400)(Y!-$14)

Once again Laquon leads the Jags wide receivers in targets. Treadwell has at least four receptions and 50 receiving yards in six straight games. With his price tag and seemingly built-in floor let’s give him a go in Week 18! If he finds the endzone it’s all gravy!

Gabe Davis BUF v NYJ(12th)(FD-$5,200)(DK-$4,900)(Y!-$17)

I wonder what DFS would be like if only there was an article that would warn you ahead of time about players that were going to score! What a world that would be!

Deonte Harris NO @ ATL(27th)(FD-$5,200)(DK-$3,200)(Y!-$16)

Unfortunately, Harris didn’t win my game of Saint WR iny miny miny mo. Although he came in second place. Jokes aside, I do like a stack of Taysom Hill, Callaway, and Harris!

Josh Reynold DET v GB(8th)(FD-$5,100)(DK-$4,300)(Y!-$15)

Talk about Super Saiyan! Rookie Amon-Ra St. Brown has literally just been walking around on fire! A little too expensive to make it in Bottom of the Barrel but Josh Reynolds has been cleared to play in Week 18. With or without Jared Goff I do like both Lion’s wideouts this week. If you’ve ever watched this Green Bay v Detroit season finale game, then you’d know anything goes!

Nico Collins HOU v TEN(31st)(FD-$3,900)(DK-$3,900)(Y!-$15)

While Brandin Cooks is the guy in this offense there has been a little spot carved out for rookie Nico Collins. While Davis Mills put up a modest stat line in Week 17 his accuracy has remained on point. Seeing how the Titans have already locked up the AFC South who’s to say this doesn’t turn into an air show for Mills and the boys against an already awful secondary?

James Washington PIT @ BAL(30th)(FD-$5,000)(DK-$3,700)(Y!-$12)

I had James in my notes. I wrote James in the word doc on WordPress. When I got to this point, I deleted James. I couldn’t find anything good or fun to say about James. The last time I did that to a player it was Marvin Jones Jr. Guess what Marvin Jones Jr. did that week? He had 10 targets 7 receptions 100 yards and a touchdown on 14.29 YPC. Not saying James is going to do that but as a superstitious man, I’d rather eat a 0.0 than leave him off with a good stat-line.

TIGHT END

Mark Andrews BAL v PIT(11th)(FD-$8,500)(DK-$7,500)(Y!-$30)

Months ago, folks were very down on Mark. Same old reasons too. Mark is a touchdown-dependent tight end playing in an offense with a limp wristed quarterback. My oh my have things changed! Albeit with both Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley! In an odd way, if you’re going to roster him this week are you hoping for Huntley or Jackson to be the starting QB?

New week same motto, punt the tight end position! I promise no harm will come your way! Given the landscape of Week 18, I would not mind if you spent up at the tight end! If you’re like me, let’s dig into some of the cheaper guys!

Hunter Henry NE @ MIA(18th)(FD-$5,600)(DK-$4,000)(Y!-$17)

Hunter isn’t exactly a PPR monster, but he is a sure-handed touchdown catching tight end. Little over-dramatic sure but with nine total touchdowns on the season wouldn’t it be a storybook ending to see him catch ten?

Zach Ertz ARZ v SEA(29th)(FD-$5,600)(DK-$5,300)(Y!-$20)

Arizona, believe it or not, is still in the running for the NFC West title. Granted the Rams are playing the 49ers and I think they need to win and the Rams to lose. If that’s incorrect I apologize. So much to process right now. Hey, I’m just a DFS guy. After all that I believe Kliff will keep this one pedal to the metal. Seattle hung 51 points against the Lions last week, but Arizona is a different beast.

Tyler Conklin MIN v CHI(6th)(FD-$5,300)(DK-$4,200)(Y!-$12)

Is it safe to assume Tyle Conklin is quarterback-proof? Ha-ha, completely kidding, kind of. Last week with Sean Mannion at the helm Tyler was targeted nine times! Tied for his highest target share of the season. So as we expect Kirk back this week fire up Conklin once again!

Pat Freiermuth PIT @ BAL(28th)(FD-$5,200)(DK-$4,600)(Y!-$19)

This game is going to be so good. As I stated earlier both teams are going to go to war here. Just throwing haymaker and haymaker. I believe Pat is on the end of one of those in a good way if that makes sense.

Austin Hooper CLE v CIN(30th)(FD-$5,100)(DK-$3,600)(Y!-$13)

As a Detroit Lions fan, I am the last to judge another team or player. That being said, Baker Mayfield has been awful. So why recommend Cleveland tight ends? It’s one of Cincinnati’s weak spots and if the Browns can somehow manage to find the red zone once or twice Baker won’t have far to throw to find the endzone.

David Njoku CLE v CIN(30th)(FD-$4,900)(DK-$3,200)(Y!-$12)

*See Austin Hooper*

Anthony Firkser TEN @ HOU(22nd)(FD-$4,800)(DK-$3,100)(Y!-$10)

MyCole Pruitt may be laid up for this one, so I’d expect Tony to be on the field a whole bunch. Most will be as a blocker, but I could see a release play or two or something up the seam for him. Plus, the Titans are playing Houston so we have that going for us!

Also, look for updates throughout the week as practice reports continue to update!

That is, it! Did I miss someone?
