Bottom of the Barrel Week 18 Quarterback NFL DFS Breakdown

January 4, 2023

Keeping with the trust and honesty of our relationship I put this article off a day because I had no idea what to do. Bottom of the Barrel has always been a light and fun idea filled with jokes and other nonsense. If you felt like me then we were forced to face our own mortality on Monday night, which is scary. Without our health we really have nothing.

Over the years I have pondered a lot of different ideas. Some are just ideas or daydreaming about goals while others have been about my own life or that of my family and friends. As I’ve gotten older, I have become more spiritual rather than religious. I have also thought about life without my mother. My later father Ron died a few years ago and as an only child my mother is all I have left. Jokes aside, we aren’t getting any younger so what is the plan? I do not have one! Which bugged me at first but as time has gone by, I am ok and relieved to not carry that burden around.

We can only handle so much stress. We can only handle the burdens of a twenty-four-hour period. Any more than that and our backs would break. I have always been a big proponent on that, “things will happen how they’re supposed to.” rationale. However, a little work in between mixed with some positive behavior couldn’t hurt.

Let’s dig into the last Main slate of the NFL regular season, Week 18!

I’ll get into all the details after a quick note about our new membership options! 😺

Jalen Hurts PHI vs. NYG(15th)(FD-$9,000)(DK-$8,200)(Y!-$40)

Jalen Hurts is expected to play on Sunday against the Giants. After starting hot and keeping the momentum rolling for most of the season the Eagles have hit a skid losing their last two games. In doing so they have opened a race for the #1 overall seed in the NFC Playoffs. The NFC East is still a fair game between Philadelphia and Dallas. San Francisco and Minnesota are also in the mix for the top spot in the NFC. So, getting Jalen Hurts back is a very welcomed notion! Given the current landscape of the Week 18 schedule and price tags of other players in better spots Jalen is an iffy bet.

Geno Smith SEA vs, LAR(9th)(FD-$7,300)(DK-$6,000)(Y!-$29)

Geno completed 18 of 29 passes for 183 yards and two touchdowns Sunday as Smith beat his former team, the Jets. Was a full circle moment in a way as Geno and the Seahawks eliminated New York. The team who drafted Geno basically gave up on him. Looking ahead to this week Seattle is still alive to get into the postseason while Geno is also one TD pass shy of 30. It really is an amazing site to see. The Seahawks also hold half the faith of the Detroit Lions postseason hopes. Unfortunately, for the Detroit Lions I am expecting Seattle to beat the breaks off the Rams 31-10. Where Geno completes 23-24 passes, 250 yards, and tosses a pair of touchdowns.

Brock Purdy SF vs. ARZ(23rd)(FD-$6,900)(DK-$5,700)(Y!-$30)

Brock continues to smash and put on a show for the 49ers! Last week Purdy completed 22 of his 35 pass attempts for 284 yards and two touchdowns. With San Francisco having already clinched the NFC West and winning their last nine games in a row this one should be fairly cut and dry. The Cardinals have lost their last seven games and have been playing musical quarterbacks since Kyler Murray went down. Every NFL game is a full speed and full intensity kind of thing but Purdy and the 9ers should have no issue beating Arizona. I have Brock around 21-22 completions, 230 yards, 2-3 carries, 15-20 rushing yards, and two touchdown passes. Look for San Fran to score around 40 total points. Yes, forty.

Sam Darnold CAR @ NO(13th)(FD-$6,800)(DK-$5,300)(Y!-$22)

Sam has been the man as of late! Since getting his hands back on the starting gig Darnold has done well! DJ Moore has benefited very much! Last week Sam completed 23 of 37 passes for 341 yards, three touchdowns, and an interception. Darnold also carried the ball five times for 20 yards. Unfortunately, Sam also turned the ball over three times. Sam has averaged 220 passing yards a game, his last five. He has also benefited from a strong rushing attack with the combo of D’Onta Foreman and Chuba Hubbard. The Saints have a sneaky good defense and will be a tough task but given their lowly price tag and connection with DJM I do not mind the risk. Let’s expect 19-20 completions, 210 yards, 3-4 carries, 15-20 yards, and two touchdowns!

Kenny Pickett PIT vs. CLE(2nd)(FD-$6,600)(DK-$5,000)(Y!-$22)

Last Sunday night Kenny was phenomenal in Baltimore. The wherewithal to complete the comeback and beat the Ravens at the last minute was truly special. That entire play that ended with Najee Harris catching a touchdown was off the charts exciting! Truth be told I had no feelings for Kenny this season. He was made fun of early on for not being effective but dang, becoming the starting QB for the Steelers is hard enough. Now they are still alive for a playoff spot. I think it’s time we give this kid his due. I am aware he is still looking for his first multi-touchdown pass game of the season and the Browns defense is tough but let’s keep the faith. I have Kenny around 20-21 completions, 210 yards, 4-5 carries, 20-25 yards, and a pair of touchdown passes!

Baker Mayfield LAR @ SEA(17th)(FD-$6,300)(DK-$5,200)(Y!-$22)

If we go back to Week 16 Baker and the Rams scored 51 points against the Broncos. Last week Baker and the Rams were only able to score 10 points as Mayfield only completed 11 of his 19 pass attempts for 132 yards. Gross. Seattle is allowing opposing teams to score 24.1 points per game. While this game has no bearing on the Rams it means the world to Seattle and their playoff aspirations. Like most of you I have always had that whatever attitude about Baker. He’s not a superstar but he’s not the worst QB in the world. In an odd way I am expecting Mayfield to play his heart out here. After this one is finished Baker will be looking for a new home and a new contract. I have Mayfield around 19-20 completions, 200 yards, 2-3 carries, 10-12 yards, and at least one touchdown. I have this odd feeling he finds the endzone on the ground as well.

I would be remiss if I did not sneak these two players into the article. Yes, it is a Sunday Night football game and not available on the regular Main slate but it’s just too important, in my opinion, to be left out. I also plan on recording a separate DFS video for this game like I have done all season. On FanDuel there is a SAT-SUN slate available locking at 4:30p that includes 16 games. On DraftKings they are also running a SAT-SUN slate locking at 8:15p which includes 15 games. Whichever slate you choose to play have fun, be safe, and bet responsibly!

Jared Goff DET @ GB(12th)(FD-$7,200)(DK-$5,800)(Y!-$29)

Jared completed 21 of his 29 passes for 255 yards and three touchdowns Sunday as the Lions beat the Bears. Goff has now thrown three touchdown passes in three of his last four games! No game more important than this one at Lambeau Field Sunday night. Yes, I am also aware the Lions playoff hopes to hang on to what Seattle does earlier Sunday afternoon. Regardless, both these teams were left for dead after the first seven games of the season. I have heard and read all over social media about this game being flexed was a mistake. Especially if the Seahawks win what is the point for Detroit? Well, an NFC North showdown to end the season, regardless of record, has always been a slugfest. As I write this let’s go off the assumption this game is a win and in for both teams. Jared Goff has shown a massive improvement as the season has progressed and it all comes down to this one. This Packers secondary has grown increasingly good as well. A lot to take in as this game draws near. This Campbell led Lions will undoubtedly leave it all on the field Sunday night. I’m looking at 24-25 completions, 275 yards, and two more touchdown passes. #OnePride

Aaron Rodgers GB vs. DET(32nd)(FD-$7,100)(DK-$6,000)(Y!-$30)

Here we are again. For those of you who don’t follow the Packers or Lions the last game of the season for both teams is always each other. Why, “here we go again” to start the blurb, Chris? Well, every season that Rodgers has been a part of the Packers organization they are never dead. Green Bay is always either locked into the post-season or sniffing around it. From being down and out, like Detroit, to winning their last four games, the Packers are once again sniffing around the NFL Playoffs. Led by sure fire Hall of Famer, Aaron Rodgers. Aaron completed 15 of his 24 passes for only 159 yards last week against Minnesota. Rodgers had a 21-yard touchdown pass to Rob Tonyan in the second quarter and found the endzone with his legs in the fourth quarter. Was the darndest thing as the Packers DST scored twice. As we look ahead to Sunday night, I have two different opinions. One, Aaron Rodgers and the rest of the cheese heads will be out for blood to cool off this new look Lions team. Second, this young and hungry Lions team will be prowling and ready to leave it all on the tundra Sunday night. I really don’t think it matters if there’s a trip to the playoffs, or not, both teams want to play. A win against a hated rival is enough. Let’s expect 23-24 completions, 250 yards, 2-3 carries, 12-15 yards, and two touchdown passes.
