Bottom of the Barrel Week 18 Wide Receivers NFL DFS Breakdown
Bottom of the Barrel Week 18 Wide Receivers NFL DFS Breakdown
January 6, 2023
At last check Damar Hamlin is awake and his brain function looks to be intact, and he is squeezing his loved one’s hands. Along with a Zoom right into the Bills morning team meeting! What a great update! What a huge relief. Still not out of the woods but I’d imagine the players are pumped to hear it and to play this game for their brother on Sunday.
Keeping with the trust and honesty of our relationship I put this article off a day because I had no idea what to do. Bottom of the Barrel has always been a light and fun idea filled with jokes and other nonsense. If you felt like me then we were forced to face our own mortality on Monday night, which is scary. Without our health we really have nothing.
We can only handle so much stress. We can only handle the burdens of a twenty-four-hour period. Any more than that and our backs would break. I have always been a big proponent on that, “things will happen how they’re supposed to.” rationale. However, a little work in between mixed with some positive behavior couldn’t hurt.
I’ll get into all the details after a quick note about our new membership options! 😺
We recently added membership options for Individual Sports here at Rise or Fall. If you wanted to subscribe to NFL Monthly or NFL Weekly without access to any of the other sports you now have that option!

Justin Jefferson MIN @ CHI(14th)(FD-$9,000)(DK-$9,100)(Y!-$40)
Last week against the Packers was stunning. No other way to put it as the Vikings got hammered 41-17! All while JJ only caught one pass on five targets for 15 yards. Holy smokes! To those of you who got screwed in your seasonal fantasy championship games I am deeply sorry. However, if you’re a Minnesota Vikings fan maybe it is a relief. In my whacked-out mind I think of it as a gift. Meaning, Jefferson got that nasty clunker out of the way earlier than in the real-life NFL Playoffs. I would also imagine the game plan this week against the lowly Chicago Bears will be all about getting right, being crisp, and targeting Justin. Might as well here as they head into the Playoffs!
Tyler Boyd CIN vs. BAL(19th)(FD-$6,200)(DK-$4,600)(Y!-$15)
Just based on raw emotion all the Bengals players are in play this week. At last check Damar Hamlin is awake and his brain function looks to be intact, and he is squeezing his loved one’s hands. What a great update! What a huge relief. Still not out of the woods but I’d imagine the players are pumped to hear it and to play this game for their brother on Sunday. Cincinnati wins!
Jahan Dotson WSH vs. DAL(28th)(FD-$5,900)(DK-$4,500)(Y!-$21)
This time next year Dotson will be a stone-cold lock as stud WR pairing with Terry McLaurin. This week let’s look at him as a high-ceiling DFS option against a Dallas defense that is beatable by slot receivers. Few guys in that Cowboys secondary take big time risks. Sometimes they cash in and sometimes they get burned. I’m counting on 6-7 targets, 4-5 receptions, 55-60 yards, and a touchdown in his final game as a rookie!
Rashid Shaheed NO vs. CAR(30th)(FD-$5,800)(DK-$4,200)(Y!-$15)
Always excited when I can sneak Shaheed in Bottom of the Barrel! To be honest, every time we have mentioned Rashid, he has paid dividends! His price point stays low. He hits value and he boosts our DFS entries! Looking ahead to Sunday the Panthers are awful in defending opposing WRs as you can see in the DvP above. Let’s plan on the Saints airing it out here as Shaheed sees 6-7 targets, 4-5 receptions, and 55 yards! I also love his chances at a 40+ yard touchdown reception! As it stands now, he averages 18.2 YPR! Let’s go Shaheeeeeed!
Curtis Samuel WSH vs. DAL(28th)(FD-$5,700)(DK-$4,000)(Y!-$18)
The trickery of Curtis Samuel is going to be a thorn in the Cowboys side all day in this one. Dallas already struggles with slot guys, and they are about to get a big dose of both Samuel and Dotson here. I am thinking 5-6 targets, 3-4 receptions, 35 yards, 2-3 carries, and another 15-20 yards. Would not be shocked if Curtis finds the endzone on some sort of blown coverage.
Romeo Doubs GB vs. DET(29th)(FD-$5,600)(DK-$4,400)(Y!-$16)
This contest Sunday night at Lambeau Field is for all the marbles. Yes, I am aware if Seattle wins before this game kickoffs the Lions playoff dreams are dashed. However, in a perfect world let’s just assume this game is a win and in situation. With Aaron Rodgers and the Packers on a full-blown heater I am expecting Romeo to be involved early and often. The Lions will hang but when it comes to a DFS point of view Detroit struggles in the secondary. If I have learned anything in my time as a Lions fan and following Rodgers as the Packers QB, I know one thing for certain, Aaron is going to burn these safeties several times. Whether it’s on one of those free play penalty calls or just in a two-minute offense, Doubs will do well. I am thinking 5-6 targets, 3-4 receptions, and 45-50 yards.
Corey Davis NYJ @ MIA(17th)(FD-$5,600)(DK-$3,500)(Y!-$15)
With Mike White back under center, it made my ears perk up for Corey Davis! Way back in Week 13 Mike White accumulated 369 passing yards and targeted Davis 10 times! Corey caught five of those for 85 yards. I am aware that was a long time ago especially in NFL terms, but I could see the Jets approaching this game as “all hands-on deck”. They have been eliminated from playoff contention but playing spoiler is always something a team likes to hang their hat on. I have Corey around 5-6 targets, 3-4 receptions, and 50 yards.
Richie James Jr. NYG @ PHI(9th)(FD-$5,900)(DK-$4,400)(Y!-$16)
Richie Jr. sure came through for us last week! This time around, will be a stiffer test in an Eagles team who has hit the skids and still looking to lock down that #1 overall seed. Yet, it is Week 18, and anything can happen! Like last week I have Richie at 4-5 targets, 3-4 catches, and 45-50 yards. If you’re riding with me then let’s do it big! Let’s bet on James Jr. to score a touchdown!
DJ Chark Jr. DET @ GB(10th)(FD-$5,700)(DK-$4,300)(Y!-$16)
DJ is finally home. By home I mean doing what the Detroit Lions expected of him. A handful of targets a game and making good on each target! With Chark being the definition of boom or bust what more can you ask for here in Week 18? Ceilings and floors are no longer as important as they once were. Perfect timing too as the Lions head to Green Bay to cash in a ticket for the NFL Playoffs. As Jared Goff continues to see the field well and make good decisions then Chark should keep rolling. DJ has accumulated at least 94 receiving yards in three of his last five contests and is averaging 18.1 yards per reception! I am expecting 6-7 targets, 4-5 receptions, and 80-85 yards.
Tyquan Thornton NE @ BUF(24th)(FD-$5,400)(DK-$3,300)(Y!-$11)
If the Patriots have any hope of beating the Bills on Sunday, then they will need contributions from every offensive piece they can. Last week Tyquan nabbed three of his seven targets for 60 yards and a touchdown last week against the Dolphins. The rookie WR has seen an increase in production given the lack of other receiving options as of late. With New England having nothing to lose this week in Buffalo a shot at more meaningful snaps for the kid seems imminent. I feel comfortable saying 5-6 targets, 3-4 receptions, and 45-50 yards are in his future. Can he make it back-to-back games with a touchdown for the first time in his young career?
