Bottom of the Barrel Week 5 NFL DFS Breakdown

Just like that it is Week 5 of the NFL season. Truth be told it has been a tough week. Not with sports or fantasy sports but with life. If you’re like me then we take on more than we can handle, at times. In an odd way it’s done on purpose most times just so we can tell folks, “Told you so!”
That’s an unhealthy way to be. That kind of behavior serves no purpose. Just puts me behind, irritated, and unhappy. On a positive note, I have been able to break the cycle but occasionally, that old me creeps back in.
As we turn our attention to Week 5 there are certainly a few storylines that stand out. There are also several DvP matchups to exploit. Let’s dig into Week 5, shall we?
We have recently added Individual Sport memberships to our offerings here at Rise or Fall. If you would like to subscribe for an NFL Monthly or NFL Weekly without access to any of the other sports you now have that option.
All memberships come with Discord Access, however, only the Monthly All Access for $39.99 comes with the $20 monthly credit to Fantasy Cruncher
Quarterbacks
Josh Allen BUF vs. PIT(20th)(FD-$9,000)(DK-$8,200)(Y!-$40)
As we look ahead to the quarterback position you will notice a few off the wall and outlandish QB’s in Bottom of the Barrel. Well, I never really count the exact number of players per position. We just follow the value and matchups here at B&B! With it being Week 5, keep an eye on it!
Zach Wilson NYJ vs. MIA(30th)(FD-$7,200)(DK-$5,300)(Y!-$23)
Zach is back! Zach attack! That’s all I have. Regardless, is Wilson being back the shot in the arm the Jet’s needed? Both rookies, Wilson and Hall have perked up. Now, the Jets a host a demoralized and Tua-less Dolphins team.
Kirk Cousins MIN vs. CHI(14th)(FD-$7,100)(DK-$6,300)(Y!-$28)
Just when you thought this article couldn’t get any more boring, I mention Kirk. I am almost certain 250 passing yards and two touchdowns is a given here this week.
Geno Smith SEA @ NO(8th)(FD-$6,900)(DK-$5,500)(Y!-$22)
The match-up is a little tougher than last week in Detroit but I am very interested to see what Geno and this Seahawks team out together as an encore. The bunch of them too! Penny, DK, Lockett, and even Dissly! Geno’s price tag has gone up only $300 on FanDuel and a measly $100 on DraftKings. His tag has even gone down by $2 on Yahoo. I mean if you call yourself a DFS player let’s run it back with Geno.
Ryan Tannehill TEN @ WSH(27th)(FD-$6,900)(DK-$5,800)(Y!-$26)
Tanny has never been, nor will he be, a stud fantasy football quarterback. However, this week against a weak Commanders defense I think he will surprise a few folks. Tennessee has gotten Derrick Henry rolling and we know how that ends.
Marcus Mariota ATL @ TB(11th)(FD-$6,800)(DK-$5,400)(Y!-$25)
I may regret this one but the idea I have is solid, hopefully. Last Sunday Night the Chiefs kind of embarrassed the Bucs. Let’s just call it what it is. Mahomes was unreal making a few headlines but now, Tom Brady is making them with trouble at home. In a weird way can the Falcons catch Tampa sleeping in this one?
Jacoby Brissett CLE vs. LAC(21st)(FD-$6,700)(DK-$5,600)(Y!-$22)
The Bolts defense is fun, tough, and opportunistic. The Charger’s defense is also tied for fifth most sacks per game. Not a glowing report for using Jacoby in DFS formats this weekend but what I love is the fact he continues to run. A running QB is DFS friendly QB. I’m thinking 220 passing yards with another 25 on the ground in addition to two total TDs is Brissett’s stat line on Sunday. Given his lowly price tag I can live with that!
Cooper Rush DAL @ LAR(23rd)(FD-$6,500)(DK-$5,400)(Y!-$20)
The Rams look off. Mainly on the offensive side of things but their defense hasn’t been anything to write home about either. This game is probably Coopers last start before Dak is back and ready for action. So the idea that Rush lets it all hang out without a care in the world has me excited!

Running Backs
Nick Chubb CLE vs. LAC(29th)(FD-$9,400)(DK-$8,000)(Y!-$38)
Bottom of the Barrel has always been about those low-cost and low-owned players. As you scroll through the top end of these running backs you will notice several are more expensive than normal. Just speaks volumes about the state of the position. However, in my B&B notes, I could not stop writing players down. After I was done the amount of RB’s mentioned seemed ridiculous. Be on the lookout for my Week 5 B&B notes. A lot of cutting room floor type stuff.
Jeff Wilson Jr. SF @ CAR(18th)(FD-$6,500)(DK-$5,500)(Y!-$17)
Jeff Wilson Jr. has looked good! I cannot be the only one who has thought that! A fantasy friendly 49ers running back is what dreams are made of! Using Wilson Jr. this week against a middle of the pack Carolina DST. I’m thinking, at minimum, 16 carries. With his seasonal average of 4.5 yards a pop 72 yards is his floor in Week 5.
Antonio Gibson WSH vs. TEN(14th)(FD-$6,300)(DK-$5,900)(Y!-$17)
Gibby or McKissic? McKissic or Gibby? Why not both? At first glance Antonio is just a low-end flex type of play but the way the Commanders wide receivers have been used it opens a spot for Gibby. A spot to make a big play or two. More than likely Gibson gets 12 or 13 carries and if he can make a few chucks yardage plays then the cost will equal value.
Devin Singletary BUF vs. PIT(26th)(FD-$6,000)(DK-$6,100)(Y!-$18)
The Steelers defense is not scary. Looking back to Week 4 the New York Jets hung a respectable amount of all purpose yards. Pittsburgh gets gouged in the air which sets up opposing teams to pound the ball on the ground. Given Devin’s price tag and projected stat-line, 14 carries, 60 yards, 4 receptions, and 40 yards, he becomes a slam dunk. Look for the Bills to lay the wood, at home, against the Steelers this week.
Rhamondre Stevenson NE vs. DET(31st)(FD-$6,000)(DK-$5,500)(Y!-$22)
Let me remind you of what I had to say about Rhamondre Stevenson last week. Stevenson took on a bigger role in Week 3 and don’t expect it to stop anytime soon. Rhamondre is my biggest, not so under the radar, start in Week 4. Several factors including the idea of a veteran QB, in a tough spot, a running back thriving, and coming up in the passing game. Expect double digits carries with a handful of targets. Same player, same type of opponent, and expect the same type of production. After what we saw Seattle do in Detroit, I think it is safe to assume the Patriots will also do the same.
Kareem Hunt CLE vs. LAC(29th)(FD-$5,900)(DK-$6,000)(Y!-$21)
In a violate game like DFS it is nice to have some absolutes and sure things occasionally! Hunt’s role is well defined as he’s seen between 12 to 15 touches and between 60 to 75 yards from scrimmage through these first four weeks. We all know it’s the Chubb show in Cleveland but let’s show Hunt some love as he hits his averages in this one.
Rachaad White TB vs. ATL(11th)(FD-$5,800)(DK-$5,100)(Y!-$10)
One of these days the Bucs are going to cut this kid loose. Let him run more routes! Give him a few more targets. Why not this week, against Atlanta?
Travis Etienne Jr. JAX vs. HOU(32nd)(FD-$5,600)(DK-$5,100)(Y!-$20)
The Jag’s running game should thrive against the league’s worst run defense in Week 5. The only issue is which running back will thrive? By all accounts it looks as though it’ll be James Robinson. If I was the Jacksonville head coach, I would take it upon myself to really use Travis in this one. Use it to boost his confidence. Use it to get him back on track. J-Rob will get his, but I also believe Etienne does too. Whether its in the passing game or running game this is the week! Etienne Jr. breakout game is here.
Eno Benjamin ARZ vs. PHI(15th)(FD-$5,400)(DK-$4,600)(Y!-$12)
A casual DFS fan would say that there is room for Eno to get a handful or touches and make good with them. On paper though, the Eagles DST has been strong! So where does that leave us? Let me put it this way. As of right now the o/u in this one sits at 49 total points. I think every bit of those 49 points are scored and then some. Fully stackable game and toss in Eno!
Kenny Gainwell PHI @ ARZ(23rd)(FD-$5,200)(DK-$5,000)(Y!-$12)
With Boston Scott banged up that leaves a little extra work for Kenny. Arizona did win last week but there were 22 total receptions for 197 yards from the opposing Panthers team. Why does this matter? Well, I think Jalen Hurts is a much better QB than Baker Mayfield so can you imagine the passing attempts on Sunday from Hurts? Expect Kenny to see a fair share of targets.
J.D. McKissic WSH vs. TEN(14th)(FD-$5,100)(DK-$5,200)(Y!-$12)
I hate that this Commanders running back committee is getting so murky and muddy. Only positive to be pulled here would be ownership percentage. Less than 1% in normally a good thing but I will caution you here as the Commanders may focus their efforts in the air over the ground game.
Trestan Ebner CHI @ MIN(28th)(FD-$5,000)(DK-$4,500)(Y!-$10)
We all know and love the legend that is Khalil Herbert. However, David Montgomery is the Bears RB1. D-Mont did not play in Week 4 leaving Herbs as the lead back with a little taste of Ebner. As now it stands D-Mont is limited in practice. If we get a Herbert/Ebner combo Sunday against a soft Vikings defense, then I am in.

Wide Receivers
Cooper Kupp LAR vs. DAL(8th)(FD-$9,500)(DK-$9,600)(Y!-$40)
What should I say here? I mean, at this point it’s clear that Coop is the best fantasy football player in the world.
Much like the running backs mentioned here in Bottom of the Barrel Week 5, I would like to focus on the cheapest of plays. Several receivers to love in the 6,000-dollar range. However, a few players have set themselves apart while there are some absolute gems to be plucked from the $5,000 range! Lets’ dig in, shall we?
Russell Gage TB vs. ATL(23rd)(FD-$6,200)(DK-$4,900)(Y!-$18)
The Bucs and Brady need som help, big time. Let’s hope Gage is back ready to help!
Isaiah McKenzie BUF vs. PIT(28th)(FD-$6,100)(DK-$5,800)(Y!-$15)
The o/u in this game sits at 45.5 and I wouldn’t be shocked if 40 of them were from the Bills. Grab all pieces from this game you can.
Michael Gallup DAL @ LAR(32nd)(FD-$6,000)(DK-$5,000)(Y!-$17)
Gallup gets a pass for in his first game back. Guy was out with a tore up knee. The one bummer was his target share. I am not too worried about it. Game one back from an extended leave of absence is excusable. The Rams are still trying to figure themselves out anyways.
Garrett Wilson NYJ vs. MIA(28th)(FD-$6,000)(DK-$5,200)(Y!-$20)
Let’s be honest here, Wilson is going to be a stud. With Zach back at the QB helm Garret is in play each week. I am thinking 7-8 targets with ease for him here against a floundering Dolphins team.
Curtis Samuel WSH vs. TEN(29th)(FD-$5,800)(DK-$5,800)(Y!-$20)
The Titans are giving up the fourth-most yards to receivers this season. Which is music to my ears given how the Commanders are using Samuel. Moving in all over the field and getting him the ball in important spots tells me all I need to know!
DeVante Parker NE vs. DET(26th)(FD-$5,700)(DK-$4,700)(Y!-$15)
The Detroit Lions, in my mind, have no secondary. Case in point, what the Seattle Seahawks did to them last week. Will the Lions gets better on defense? Sure, but not in one single week! All about getting while the getting’s good.
Nelson Agholor NE vs. DET(26th)(FD-$5,500)(DK-$4,000)(Y!-$13)
I know it’s a scary thing to trust two Patriot WR’s like Parker and Agholor given Bill’s propensity to game plan and take the ball right out of the QB’s hands. Last week it was all about Harris and Stevenson. This week it’ll be all about Parker and Agholor!
Joshua Palmer LAC @ CLE(16th)(FD-$5,500)(DK-$5,100)(Y!-$14)
Was nice to see Austin Ekeler get going last week. I think that is a good sign of things to come. Mike Williams had 11 targets and Everett had 6! So why on earth should we look Palmer’s way? I do believe the Bolts have figured it out and with Herbs on the mend any and all offense weapons are in play.
Nico Collins HOU @ JAX(19th)(FD-$5,400)(DK-$4,100)(Y!-$10)
Texans QB Davis Mills hasn’t been awful. He hasn’t been outstanding either. He has been right where we want him to be in DFS circles, unassuming! Cooks gets most of the action, but Nico has come up and now commands 5 to 7 targets a game.
Donovan Peoples-Jones CLE vs. LAC(24th)(FD-$5,400)(DK-$4,100)(Y!-$13)
Given his price tag I would’ve felt silly leaving DPJ off the list this week. It’s that old school coaching mindset that the run game leads to the passing game. DPJ saw 9 targets last week against the Falcons and I foresee at least seven this week against the Chargers. Only difference is he finds the endzone!
Elijah Moore NYJ vs. MIA(28th)(FD-$5,300)(DK-$5,000)(Y!-$15)
The idea of Moore, Wilson, and Hall yet again is enough to make most gag. If you’re a Jets fan or a DFS fan, then you’ll smile! Realistically speaking, I have Zach Wilson throwing a pair a touchdown on Sunday. One to Moore and one to Wilson!
Rondale Moore ARZ vs. PHI(17th)(FD-$5,200)(DK-$4,100)(Y!-$15)
Was nice to see Rondale back on the field in week 4. Another speedster who will need time to warm up before he gets rolling at full speed. The Philadelphia secondary is not a joke. Can Moore fool them once or twice? Sure, but will Kyler have the patience to wait for it?
Trent Sherfield MIA @ NYJ(11th)(FD-$5,000)(DK-$3,300)(Y!-$10)
A trendy waiver add in seasonal formats Trent was targeted 6 times last week. Risky move this week with Teddy Bridgewater at QB.

Tight Ends
T.J. Hockenson DET @ NE(26th)(FD-$7,000)(DK-$4,900)(Y!-$21)
Guess what? It is still cool to punt the tight end position! The drop off, in price, at tight end this week is nonexistent! From Ertz to Goedert and back to Kyle Pitts. There is a log jam at the TE spot this week in DFS formats. There are literally a dozen viable options in that $6,100 to $5,300 range. Let me do the work and comb through depth charts for you. Here are my cheaper options at the tight end spot in Week 5.
David Njoku CLE vs. LAC(13th)(FD-$5,700)(DK-$3,800)(Y!-$16)
Njoku continues to see a healthy number of targets on a weekly basis. Seven last week and ten the week before! He sat out of practice early this week for rest but was back at it on Thursday.
Tyler Higbee LAR vs. DAL(5th)(FD-$5,500)(DK-$4,300)(Y!-$15)
The Cowboy’s defense has been lights out. I also expect Micah Parsons to make life a living hell for Matthew Stafford on Sunday. Which should be good news for Tyler Higbee! Check downs and dump off passes a plenty on Sunday!
Tyler Conklin NYJ vs. MIA(25th)(FD-$5,300)(DK-$3,700)(Y!-$15)
Conklin has been a pleasant surprise at the tight end spot for us DFS players. Even with Zach Wilson back under center Conklin saw five targets and posted his second highest yardage total of the young season. The Dolphins have are giving up sixth-most fantasy points to tight ends this year.
Logan Thomas WSH vs. TEN(32nd)(FD-$5,200)(DK-$3,200)(Y!-$14)
Logan is current questionable to play on Sunday, if he is out, you can target John Bates. The Titans are allowing the 4th most receiving yards to opposing TEs. If active, I am thinking Thomas sees around five targets and finds the endzone. Keep a close eye on his status!
Will Dissly SEA @ NO(1st)(FD-$5,100)(DK-$3,300)(Y!-$11)
On paper this looks like a tough match-up. Yet, Geno and the Seahawks are fresh off a 48-point performance in Detroit. The Saints have a collection of great cornerbacks but in some cases, they lose track of the TEs. Would it be shocking to see Will catch his 4th touchdown in five games!
Juwan Johnson TB vs. SEA(30th)(FD-$4,700)(DK-$3,000)(Y!-$10)
Juwan has recorded at least two receptions and four targets in all but one game this year. Looks as though Andy Dalton will once again be the starting QB on Sunday. The match-up is sweet and expect Johnson to finally find the endzone in Week 5!
Hunter Henry NE vs. DET(24th)(FD-$4,500)(DK-$2,900)(Y!-$10)
Hunter was on the field for 49 of the Pats 58 offensive snaps last week. Fellow TE Jonnu Smith twisted his ankle meaning, Henry, in a plus matchup, could see more action. We all know how bad the Lions defense has been. I have no more jokes. Look for the Henry to find the endzone on Sunday!
That it is! Bottom of the Barrel for Week 5 of the NFL season!
