Bottom of the Barrel week 5
Chris Robin https://twitter.com/DetroitBeastie
Have you ever had any hard feelings towards your peers and colleagues? Do you tend to be overly critical of those same people? Have you ever explored these emotions or why others act this way? I am aware it’s not exactly the definition of fun but has its merits!
Life is full of these “lightbulb” moments. Something clicks and you can see clearly. We need to realize that most humans, no matter what their limitations, have something to offer. Some good, however little, can still help.
As social media continues to swell up and completely take over most of our time it’s a good move to stop and discuss the human nature of it all. Dealing with so many different personalities can be a troublesome task but can ultimately assist in understanding and adjusting our attitudes.
Social media has introduced us to some of the most insecure people around. Yet, in an odd way, those same folks have a touch of narcissism. How can that be? It is a tad contradictory but let me explain. It’s almost like being under the influence blacked out and waking up to hearing folks talk about what you were doing or saying. That’s how out of touch it can get.
When you treat people with little to no respect, you’re going to create hate and bad attitudes. To then play the victim while acting surprised and confused regarding why people are treating you this way is a bad sign. You have officially become disconnected.
My late father taught me a great deal about being a good man. Some people look at success as material possessions. While others look at success in the relationships they have built. Being kind, supportive, and open-minded are three important qualities we should strive for.
Let’s dig into week five, shall we?
Kyler Murray ARZ v SF(24th)(FD-$8,500)(DK-$8,000)(Y!-$41)
This kid continues to improve and build on an already solid skill set. Murray had his toughest test yet in week four against a stout Los Angeles Rams defense and still managed to produce. Murray and the Cardinals have shown no signs of slowing down. Take notice! Kyler is officially a super-star!
Here are my favorite bottomed-out quarterbacks in week five!
Jared Goff DET @ MIN(27th)(FD-$7,100)(DK-$5,300)(Y!-$28)
The Detroit Lions continue to lose and flounder opportunities but from a daily fantasy sports perspective, Goff has done well! In week four against the Bears, Jared hung 299 yards and two touchdowns. At his current price in all formats, Goff is a solid bet for value.
Joe Burrow CIN v GB(28th)(FD-$7,000)(DK-$6,100)(Y!-$29)
Has Joe Burrow officially broken through? Burrow has thrown for 988 yards, nine touchdowns, and has the Bengals sitting with a 3-1 record through four games. This looming match-up with the Packers in Week 5 has all the makings of another fantasy stuffed performance!
Trey Lance SF @ ARZ(4th)(FD-$6,900)(DK-$5,700)(Y!-$23)
Well, Jimmy G has been injured and is on the shelf, yet again. San Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance completed 9-of-18 passes for 157 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 41 yards on seven carries in a Week 4. Lance is obviously still learning and finding his rhythm, but I love the idea of him working it out on the fly in our lines in Week 5! Trey Lance vs. Kyler Murray! Buckle up, folks! Should be a good one!
Mac Jones NE @ HOU(22nd)(FD-$6,700)(DK-$5,300)(Y!-$20)
If you remember correctly, I tweeted out the following on Sunday night, “Might be time to move Mac Jones up my rankings a tad.” It was met with an equal mix of reactions. Sunday night in Foxboro was a huge step in Mac’s progression as a professional quarterback. The back-and-forth with Tampa Bay’s defensive schemes will be one Mac remembers for a while. The on-the-job training is priceless. All the people who disagree based on the “dink-and-dunk” play-calling will soon figure out why that is a huge step in his progress. Seeing the field, running through his reads, and making a quick decision is exactly what being a quarterback is all about!
Drew Lock DEN @ PIT(17th)(FD-$6,600)(DK-$4,900)(Y!-$20)
Remember in the summer when it was Team Lock vs Team Teddy? As we all know Bridgewater won the starting job but was concussed in Week 4. Teddy will have to clear the NFL concussion protocol but keep an eye out during this week. If given the chance to start in Week 5 Drew could be dangerous! The kid has nothing to lose!
Jacoby Brissett MIA @ TB(30th)(FD-$6,300)(DK-$5,200)(Y!-$22)
Back-to-back Bottom of the Barrel appearances for Jacoby! He made good on his start in Week 4! Look forward to more of the same in Tampa Bay on Sunday!
Taysom Hill NO @ WSH(32nd)(FD-$6,100)(DK-$5,100)(Y!-$20)
Was nice to see Taysom find the endzone twice in Week 4. Looking ahead to the match-up in Washington safe to say the opportunities will be aplenty!
Before we dig into running backs swing by the Team Rise or Fall site and look at our premium plans! https://teamriseorfall.com/subscribe-now/
Derrick Henry TEN @ JAX(28th)(FD-$10,400)(DK-$9,000)(Y!-$42)
No surprise here. King Henry carried the ball thirty-three times for one hundred and fifty-seven yards and a touchdown. Tennessee lost to the Jets, embarrassing, but the King still reigns supreme. This match-up in week five is otherworldly. I could keep going with juicy adjectives but that would only be fun for me.
Let’s dig into the cheaply priced running backs I am into this week!
Chase Edmonds ARZ v SF(25th)(FD-$6,200)(DK-$5,900)(Y!-$19)
Finally! Chase went nuts in Week 4! Edmonds rushed 12 times for 120 yards and caught 4-of-5 targets for 19 yards receiving in the Week 4 win over the Rams. What’s shocking to me is the fact James Connor out-touched Chase! In a weird way, I think that might scare off a few folks suppressing Edmonds’s ownership. As the Cards’ primary pass-catching RB, Chase is a must-play week-to-week in this scary fast-moving offense!
Javonte Williams DEN @ PIT(4th)(FD-$5,800)(Dk-$4,900)(Y!-$15)
I am a very superstitious man. Javonte has been mentioned in every Bottom of the Barrel article this season, so I see no reason to end the streak now! While the carries in this backfield are literally dead even, we can clearly see how outstandingly special the rookie is. Given the fact that it’s a timeshare J-Will’s price tag continues to remain low.
Kenyan Drake LV v CHI(16th)(FD-$5,700)(DK-$4,900)(Y!-$15)
Full disclosure, I added Drake to this week’s notes late Sunday night before the Raiders even played in LA. Fast forward to Monday and Kenyan only received one carry! A single touch. What the hell? To be fair, the Raider’s offense was stuck in neutral all night. I am going to chalk it up to an overall bad team effort not a specific player problem. Let’s get back on the Drake train in Week 5!
Tony Pollard DAL v NYG(24th)(FD-$5,600)(DK-$5,600)(Y!-$17)
Dallas running back Tony Pollard rushed 10 times for 67 yards but was not targeted in the passing game Sunday. The silver lining here is the fact Tony has received at least 10 touches in three straight games. Looking ahead to this NFC East tilt, the Giants gave up 170 total yards on the ground between six different ball carriers. Tony P is in a great spot Sunday!
A.J. Dillon GB @ CIN(12th)(FD-$5,500)(DK-$4,500)(Y!-$11)
AJ Dillon rushed 15 times for 81 yards in the Packers’ Week 4 win at home against the Steelers. This was a promising result after all the love AJ received throughout the off-season. In an odd way, I think Dillon will benefit the most given the NFL’s extension of games. Most have heard of the term “load management” but that has mainly been a term for the NBA. The Packers have Super Bowl aspirations. To do so it would be wise to get Dillon more involved! Look for AJ to touch the ball even more in Week 5!
J.D. McKissic WSH v NO(6th)(FD-$5,300)(DK-$5,000)(Y!-$12)
“Air McKissic” as we should refer to JD from here on out rushed seven times for 15 yards and caught all five of his targets for 44 yards and a touchdown Sunday. McKissic remains an absolute steal at his price tag in all DFS formats.
Khalil Herbert CHI @ LV(20th)(FD-$5,200)(DK-$4,00)(Y!-$10)
A player like Khalil Herbert is the exact reason Bottom of the Barrel exists! Short team situational opportunities will always be the foundation of this article. While Montgomery scored twice and accumulated over a hundred yards (106) he was also knocked out of the game. Come to find out David Montgomery has a knee sprain that will miss 4-5 weeks. The rookie back is a fantastic source of cheap points!
Jeremy McNichols TEN @ JAX(28th)(FD-$5,100)(DK-$5,000)(Y!-$13)
It’s definitely not normal for a backup running back to receive twelve targets in a normal situation but here we are! Jeremy caught eight of those twelve targets for 74 yards on Sunday. I also want to point out that this is McNichol’s first time as a back-to-back mention in Bottom of the Barrel! Thanks, kid! Keep killing it!
Brandon Bolden NE @ HOU(23rd)(FD-$4,900)(DK-$4,000)(Y!-$10)
Brandon Bolden caught all six of his targets for 51 yards Sunday night in Foxboro. The running back situation has always been murky in New England so any little crumb of an edge is worth mentioning. Fellow running back JJ Taylor did lose a fumble Sunday against Tampa Bay so could he be in the doghouse? Could Bolden see a few extra looks in Houston? If Mac Jones really checks down Charlie wouldn’t that make Brandon a juicy play? I think so!
Chris Evans CIN v GB(19th)(FD-$4,800)(DK-$4,000)(Y!-$11)
Bengals running back Joe Mixon has been diagnosed with a low-grade ankle sprain that will leave him week-to-week. So now what will Cincinnati do at the position? A levelheaded fantasy football hobbyist would shy away due to a probable committee between Perine and Evans. An aggressive DFS player would decide and go all in. What kind of player are you?
Davante Adams GB @ CIN(21st)(FD-$8,200)(DK-$8,200)(Y!-$33)
Adams was bottled up in Week 4. Still caught 6-of-11 targets for 64 yards. In some cases, it’s not about crunching numbers or digging deep. In the length of his career in Green Bay Davante has not stayed down long. Look for a big week in Cincinnati on Sunday!
Let’s look at some cheaper wide receivers I am into this week!
Henry Ruggs III LV v CHI(25th)(FD-$5,900)(DK-$5,600)(Y!-$15)
Hopefully, I am not alone when I say this, but certain words and phrases just stick with me. Case in point, “Ruggs blows!” I read that exact statement a few times over the weekend and Tuesday morning. However, I will say I respectfully disagree. Six targets and only three receptions are boring but the 60 total yards is promising! All that yardage basically coming on a 51-yard catch. Look, I get the frustration! First-round selection being passed and lapped by several of is his contemporaries. That is the beauty behind DFS! We can pick and choose when to use Henry!
Laviska Shenault Jr. JAX v TEN(30th)(FD-$5,800)(DK-$4,800)(Y!-$18)
Do you think we have turned the corner with Viska? On Thursday, which seems like two weeks ago, he was a beacon of hope! Laviska Jr. caught 6-of-9 targets for 99 yards and gained 11 yards on his lone rushing attempt.
Hunter Renfrow LV v CHI(25th)(FD-$5,800)(DK-$4,900)(Y!-$16)
Hunter has now scored in consecutive weeks and looks to be the apple of Derek Carr’s eye! So who are we to refute that? Through four weeks of the 2021 NFL season, Carr has attempted 170 passes! Only Tom Brady has attempted more (184). Meaning, the Vegas Raiders have quietly turned into a high-volume passing offense! While Renfrow remains an afterthought in DFS circles.
A.J. Green ARZ v SF(11th)(FD-$5,700)(DK-$5,100)(Y!-$17)
A.J. Greens’ rise from the grave is fitting given the time of year! If I was any good at making parody videos, I would put A.J. Greens’ head on Michael Jackson’s body in the Thriller video. It’s close to midnight and AJ Green is lurking after dark.
DeVante Parker MIA @ TB(32nd)(FD-$5,700)(DK-$5,400)(Y!-$17)
One big note in my Week 5 DFS playbook reads as follows, “Won’t make that mistake again! Highlight a select few players I mentioned last week!” Meaning, Parker was involved in Week 4 Bottom of the Barrel and I did mention him, Brissett, and Waddle but not enough! Parker saw nine targets caught four of them for 77 yards and a touchdown. Let’s run it back with a Dolphin stack, yet again, under the radar in Week 5.
Kadarius Toney NYG @ DAL(26th)(FD-$5,300)(DK-$4,000)(Y!-$13)
I have made no secret about my dislike for Toney. Not for the kid personally but the real-life draft capital. Again, no ill will for the kid! Wish him the best! We need to learn to separate our real-life feelings from our fantasy feelings. If Shepard and Slayton are inactive in Week 5, I will be firing up Toney. The kid has the speed to make a house call at any given time.
Kalif Raymond DET @ MIN(29th)(FD-$5,300)(DK-$4,800)(Y!-$12)
See DeVante Parker’s blurb! Kalif Raymond is another back-to-back nominee here in Bottom of the Barrel! Rightfully so! Raymond has become a nice sneaky move in DFS formats. Looking at six to eight targets per game to go with several touchdown receptions. Goff to Raymond stack at what, under four or five percent!
Chester Rogers TEN @ JAX(22nd)(FD-$5,100)(DK-$3,900)(Y!-$13)
Chester caught 5-of-6 targets for 63 yards on Sunday. No more than punt play if AJ Brown and/or Julio Jones are unable to play in Week 5.
Josh Reynolds TEN @ JAX(22nd)(FD-$5,000)(DK-$3,300)(Y!-$12)
The same exact situation as Rogers above! Josh Reynolds caught 6-of-9 targets for 59 yards on Sunday. Meaning, once again, if AJB and Julio are again inactive fire up Reynolds!
Rashard Higgins CLE @ LAC(2nd)(FD-$5,000)(DK-$4,300)(Y!-$10)
With Jarvis Landry being out Higgins has become a nice compliment to Odell Beckham with Baker Mayfield. However, the impending match-up in Los Angeles is not favorable but can spin to our advantage given the health of Hunt, Chubb, and OBJ.
Darren Waller LV v CHI(8th)(FD-$7,400)(DK-$7,300)(Y!-$23)
Look alive! Week 5 Main slate is very grim at the tight end position! Meaning, for the first time in a while, I firmly believe a high-caliber tight end is a move! Look no further than Waller or TJ Hockenson. While George Kittle is also on the slate the 49er’s head to Arizona and their 2nd overall DST against tight ends. So, by process of elimination is Waller or TJ Hock! Or you can scroll down and take a look at which way I am rolling!
At this point hopefully, you are aware I punt tight end 100% of the time! Here are the tight ends I am punting on in week five!
Tyler Conkin MIN v DET(23rd)(FD-$5,100)(DK-$3,500)(Y!-$16)
During the last two weeks of the season, Tyler has seen 14 total targets! Granted he hasn’t done much with said targets it is still an exciting development! The volume will forever be king in any sort of fantasy football format! Conklin should have no issue finding the endzone again at home against the Lions this week.
Juwan Johnson NO @ WSH(17th)(FD-$5,000)(DK-$3,100)(Y!-$11)
I am aware Juwan is a touchdown-dependent tight end but that’s not really saying much. Aside from the top-3 guys every other tight end in the league is dependent on touchdowns. So, I look at it this way, being able to stream or punt the position is awesome! It can literally put us in the driver’s seat in terms of playing matchups and situations. It’s kind of like the Bachelor. “Will you Juwan Johnson accept this rose?”
Blake Jarwin DAL v NYG(28th)(FD-$5,000)(DK-$3,200)(Y!-$12)
The Dallas Cowboys go as Dak Prescott goes. Safe to say Dak is going along well! After a four-touchdown performance against Carolina in Week 4, Dak and the Cowboys turn their attention to the hapless Giants. The name on the back of the jersey here does not matter. If you are catching passes from Dak I want, you in my DFS lines!
Jonnu Smith NE @ HOU(29th)(FD-$4,900)(DK-$3,300)(Y!-$15)
Let’s revisit the “check down Charlie” rationale of rookie quarterback Mac Jones. I firmly believe Mac grew up big time on Sunday night against the Bucs. The Patriot’s coaching staff has always been as good as it gets about putting their players in the best possible situations to succeed. As each week concludes Mac with continue to grow and gel with this offense. In the meantime so will Jonnu’s athleticism and counting stats!
Austin Hooper CLE @ LAC(27th)(FD-$4,900)(DK-$3,200)(Y!-$13)
I am aware Hooper was awful in Week 4. Austin only caught one pass on five targets. As I said a few blurbs ago the tight end position is bleak this week! Looking ahead to the match-up in Los Angeles is the ONLY reason why Hooper is in play here.
