Bottom of the Barrel Week 9 NFL DFS Breakdown
Bottom of the Barrel Week 9
Chris Robin https://twitter.com/DetroitBeastie
Pain can manifest itself in many ways. Pain can motivate. Pain can paralyze us. Pain, if used correctly, can help us reach new heights. I have always been big on personal perspectives. I have also bought into the adage, ‘things will happen how they’re supposed to. With a little leg work, we can achieve anything we set our minds to.
The idea of willingly putting ourselves in an uncomfortable situation in hopes to learn and grow is enough to make anyone cower. As a man in active recovery, my biggest claim to fame was the fact I did very well with my back against the wall. Put me in an awfully impossible spot and I would find my way out. I used to share this thought at support group meetings. After sharing I thought I was the coolest. Totally unaware of how foolish and disconnected I was. Fast forward to now and it makes me cringe. Even typing this out it makes me embarrassed.
However, I am proud of the man I have become. That is the weird thing about being uncomfortable. We rarely know we’re in it until after we make it out. I’d like the think the lesson is not during but after. We are all responsible for our own actions. Those actions always have consequences. The word consequence has always been linked to negativity. There are, in fact, positive consequences. Are you part of the problem or part of the solution?

Josh Allen BUF @ JAX(26th)(FD-$9,000)(DK-$8,200)(Y!-$40)
Josh Allen went 29-for-42 with 249 passing yards, two passing touchdowns, and zero interceptions on Sunday. He also added 55 yards and a rushing touchdown. Talk about putting the team on your back! Josh also led the Bills in passing yards, rushing yards, and rushes in this one. Looking ahead to Week 9, Josh is in another sweet spot against the Jags. Need a cash quarterback? Look no further! Thanksgiving comes early for Allen and the Bills!
With Week 9 upon us, it is getting harder and harder to navigate the DFS waters. As you scroll down you will see what I’m getting at! Here are the cheaper options I am pivoting to at quarterback!
Tua Tagovailoa MIA v HOU(29th)(FD-$7,300)(DK-$5,800)(Y!-$26)
Tua Tagovailoa completed just 21 of 39 passes for 205 yards, no touchdowns, and one interception against the Bills on Sunday. However, he did add 10 rushing yards and a touchdown on the ground. Tua will remain a staple in Bottom of the Barrel barring some wild news. In Week 9 the Dolphins host the hapless Texans. On the surface or to the casual fan, this game lacks interesting star power. Upon closer inspection, this game has all the makings of a point-laden shoot-out. All under the radar too!
Daniel Jones NYG v LV(13th)(FD-$7,300)(DK-$5,600)(Y!-$25)
Daniel Jones completed 22 of his 32 passes for 222 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception Monday night in Kansas City Chief. He also ran for 12 yards on five attempts. It is all a matter of perspective! Some say loser bum I say fantastic value and low ownership! The Raiders are coming off a BYE week so I know certain folks will be apprehensive but has the Vegas Raiders DST been all that impressive? Danny has a floor of 250 yards and a touchdown in Week 9.
Teddy Bridgewater DEN @ DAL(23rd)(FD-$7,100)(DK-$5,300)(Y!-$24)
I know what you’re thinking! So far Bottom of the Barrel has been a real snooze fest! It’s almost identical to last week’s edition. Well, yes and no! Teddy Bridgewater went 19-of-26 for 213 yards and a touchdown on Sundays. In my videos, I often say I can read your mind! Again, I know what you’re going to say! So, what if Teddy let the Bronco’s DST carry this one in Week 8! Teddy carries a solid floor most weeks and in Week 9 it’s no different! I have Bridgewater around 275 passing yards and two touchdowns!
Taysom Hill NO v ATL(27th)(FD-$7,000)(DK-$5,500)(Y!-$22)
Unfortunate news for the Saints and Jameis Winston. I wish him the best but in the meantime, the show must go on! Taysom has been on the sideline since Week 5 after suffering a concussion. By all accounts, he has been progressing well and is on track to be active in Week 9. Granted, Siemian played great after Winston went down so which QB is the play in Week 9? Hang around! We will discuss it later in the week!
Trevor Siemian NO v ATL(27th)(FD-$7,000)(DK-$5,400)(Y!-$25)
As mentioned above Siemian played well after the Winston injury. Trevor completed 16-of-29 passes for 159 yards and a touchdown Sunday as the Saint’s beat Tampa Bay! So now we’re in the odd part of the week where it’s all rumors and practice reports. As awful as it sounds I think we get a dose of both Trevor and Hill in Week 9.
Davis Mills HOU @ MIA(30th)(FD-$6,900)(DK-$5,200)(Y!-$20)
I have good news and bad news. Which one do you want first? The good? Great! Houston QB Davis Mills completed 29-of-38 passes for 310 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception. Now the bad news, Mills was sacked five times for a loss of 31 yards. At this stage of the season, we have to take the good with the bad! I don’t want to end the blurb on a bad note so here’s a little boost for you! The over/under in the HOU/MIA game has opened at 46 total points. As the week progresses, I could see it being bumped up to around 49! I can touch on it more as the week goes on but I love this game from an all-around stacking perspective!
Mike White NYJ @ IND(22nd)(FD-$6,700)(DK-$5,300)(Y!-$25)
Mr. White with the football against the Bengals for 400+ yards! Oh, though we were playing Clue. Hopefully, I haven’t lost you! Mike was fantastic attempting 45 passes. He completed 37 of them, which was good for an 82% completion percentage. Mr. White finished with 405 passing yards with three touchdowns. While it was a doozy of a performance Zach Wilson is this team’s QB1 and the face of the franchise. This is the beauty of DFS! More than likely we will get another start out of Mike White! When Wilson is back, we throw Mr. White into the trash! Harsh but you get the idea!
Mac Jones NE @ CAR(11th)(FD-$6,500)(DK-$5,300)(Y!-$22)
Sometimes fantasy football and DFS isn’t about the induvial player but the opponent! Case in point Mac Jones in Carolina! The Panthers have shown flashes on defense but nothing concrete or long-lasting. While Mac Jones in Week 8 completed 18-of-35 passes for 218 yards in New England’s win over the Chargers. Was another great showing for the kid and his long-term development.
Jordan Love GB @ KC(31st)(FD-$6,000)(DK-$4,400)(Y!-$20)
On Wednesday morning (11/3) the Green Bay Packers have released the fact Aaron Rodgers has tested positive for COVID-19. He is now in the COVID protocol and will not play Sunday night in Kansas City. A second-year quarterback is an interesting option in Week 9 given the favorable matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs. I would not go overboard with exposure, but it has opened up another set of options for us. More to follow.
Christian McCaffrey CAR v NE(16th)(FD-$10,000)(DK-$8,000)(Y!-$37)
Will he? Won’t he? Panthers head coach Matt Rhule says the plan is for RB Christian McCaffrey to practice on Wednesday. Rhule has been very vague, not secretive, but not really open to discussing the plan with CMC. Either way, McCaffrey is not on my radar in Week 9 from a DFS perspective.
Looking through the rest of the reasonably priced RB’s here’s what I have uncovered!
Devontae Booker NYG v LV(24th)(FD-$6,300)(DK-$5,900)(Y!-$15)
Booker was outstanding on Monday Night! Booker rushed 15 times for 60 yards and caught five of his six targets for 65 yards Monday in Kansas City. Another case of using it or losing it. When do we expect Saquon Barkley back? Regardless, playing Devontae in Week 9 is very appealing!
Boston Scott PHI v LAC(28th)(FD-$6,300)(DK-$5,200)(Y!-$17)
Of all the wild off the map things to happen in Week 8, not once, did I think Boston Scott was going to be one of them! In all seriousness, I am upset Bottom of the Barrel missed it! So the only reasonable thing to do is mention him this week hoping we see a flash of Week 8!
Kenyan Drake LV @ NYG(21st)(FD-$6,200)(DK-$5,100)(Y!-$17)
The Raiders will be fresh off of a much-needed bye in Week 8. However, what is the status of Josh Jacobs? If he misses any time that would mean Drake would be a lock as a solid fantasy play! Unless the Raiders go back to Peyton Barber. Regardless, I love Drake in Week 9!
Myles Gaskin MIA v HOU(27th)(FD-$6,100)(DK-$5,800)(Y!-$19)
Miami running back Myles Gaskin carried the ball 12 times for 36 yards during Sunday against the Bills. He also caught three of four targets for an added 19 yards. Myles has not been all that exciting this year. So why the mention? Look at the match-up? With the addition of Malcolm Brown on the IR, Gaskin should be in line for 15+ total targets and touches in Week 9!
Jeremy McNichols TEN @ LAR(20th)(FD-$6,000)(DK-$5,700)(Y!-$15)
Derrick Henry! I can’t even say his name without being bummed out. King Henry is a superhero! He cannot be hurt! Yet, here we are. I have always been a McNichols fan and the recent addition of Adrian Peterson doesn’t help his cause but it doesn’t hurt it either. Do you really think AP walks right in and gets 10+ carries? While close I still expect Jeremy to out-touch Adrian, in Week 9 at least.
Zack Moss BUF @ JAX(15th)(FD-$6,000)(DK-$5,300)(Y!-$18)
Zack Moss had eight carries for 19 yards against the Dolphins on Sunday. He also caught six of seven targets for 39 yards. Zack Moss is seemingly this strange enigma. He is on an extremely efficient team. The Bills are fantastic with Josh Allen at the helm, yet Moss has just been average. To be honest, I am sick of it. I’m just flipping know the one week I leave him out he may just go nuts. So here at Bottom of the Barrel, we are going to ride it out!
Tony Pollard DAL v DEN(12th)(FD-$5,800)(DK-$4,700)(Y!-$15)
Cowboys running back Tony Pollard rushed seven times for 26 yards and caught one target for one yard in Sunday’s win over the Vikings. Was a really quiet Week 8 for Tony but overall nothing to write home about? I also don’t think we have anything to worry about. The match-up against Denver in Week 9 has all the makings of redemption for Tony and Cowboys. From the head coach himself, Mike McCarthy said Dak will be a “full go” for Thursday’s practice, which puts him on track to play in Week 9! Let’s go!
D’Ernest Johnson CLE @ CIN(22nd)(FD-$5,500)(DK-$5,400)(Y!-$17)
No Kareem Hunt no problem, well sort of. Cleveland Browns RB D’Ernest Johnson carried the ball four times for 22 yards and a touchdown in Week 8. Johnson also caught one pass for seven yards. Not to mention D’Ernest scored Brown’s only touchdown. The battle for Ohio starts now!
AJ Dillon GB @ KC(20th)(FD-$5,200)(DK-$4,600)(Y!-$16)
Green Bay RB A.J. Dillon lead the team Thursday with 16 rushes for 78 yards. How many of you Aaron Jones fans were freaking out on Thursday? Let me be honest, AJ Dillon will not surpass Aaron Jones as the lead back, not this season at least, but he will be useful week-to-week. Especially this week in Kansas City! I have AJ around 12 total targets and touches.
Mark Ingram II NO v ATL(23rd)(FD-$5,200)(DK-$4,600)(Y!-$12)
Who would have thought right? Mark Ingram is back on the map! Mark Ingram rushed six times for 27 yards while catching both of his targets for 25 yards Sunday. Ingram saw eight touches in his first game back with the Saints. Was a nice sight to see. The Super Dome went nuts as they announced Mark’s name! Do you remember how well Alvin and Mark got along? I’d expect Ingram to work his way back into a more meaningful role. As soon as Week 9!
Salvon Ahmed MIA v HOU(27th)(FD-$5,200)(DK-$4,000)(Y!-$13)
Miami running back Salvon Ahmed rushed seven times, caught one pass, and totaled 28 yards in Week 8. With the recent IR trip for Malcolm Brown almost certain Ahmed sees a boost in looks moving forward. Plus, they are playing Houston. You could do worse!
Scottie Phillips HOU @ MIA(25th)(FD-$4,700)(DK-$4,000)(Y!-$10)
With Mark Ingram being traded away to New Orleans Houston elevated RB Scottie Phillips from the practice squad. In Week 8 Scottie looked good. It’s all a matter of perspective, right? Phillips is a strong running. He is tough and falls forward! I would not be shocked to see Scottie get another handful of carries in a plus match-up!
Derrick Gore KC v GB(17th)(Not available on Fanduel)(DK-$4,000)(Y!-$10)
I had to! Do you blame me? All the grandson jokes with Frank Gore Monday night were fun! All fun aside do you think Gore starts to see an uptick as the season progresses? I do! Dammit, do I love DFS! Every once in a while, we are gifted a treat!

Cooper Kupp LAR v TEN(32nd)(FD-$9,400)(DK-$9,400)(Y!-$41)
Cooper Kupp caught seven passes for 115 yards and a touchdown against Houston on Sunday. What more can I say that hasn’t already been said? Stafford and Kupp have been lights out so far in 2021. No matter where Cooper’s price tag goes we should follow!
The very right and very rare same price on both formats play here!
There are numerous other studs WR’s, about a dozen, that are high priced and look good! That’s not the idea behind Bottom of the Barrel! So, follow me here, and let’s look at the lesser owned wide receivers!
Cole Beasley BUF @ JAX(24th)(FD-$6,300)(DK-$5,400)(Y!-$17)
It’s time for me to quit fooling around. Personally speaking, I have never been a fan of Cole Beasley. It has nothing to do with his stance on the COVID-19 vaccine. It has always been about his lack of production on the football field. Silly right? All this guy does is catch passes. Important passes at that!
DeVante Parker MIA v HOU(22nd)(FD-$6,200)(DK-$5,300)(Y!-$18)
After a three-week absence, Parker popped back up and did his thing! DeVante wen for 8/85 on 11 targets in Week 8. Looking ahead to Week 9 I see no way Parker isn’t heavily involved from the first snap. I have him around 8 targets for 5 or 6 receptions and 75 yards! Parker will also find the endzone!
Jaylen Waddle MIA v HOU(22nd)(FD-$6,100)(DK-$5,600)(Y!-$18)
Jaylen Waddle only caught four of the 12 passes thrown his way Sunday. He finished with only 29 receiving yards. The targets he saw were outstanding, but the final numbers were less than thrilling. Could be due to the return of Parker. Which in the long run isn’t a bad thing! Hopefully, with another full week of practice, they can coexist. That’s my plan in Week 9 against Houston!
Jerry Jeudy DEN @ DAL(25th)(FD-$5,800)(DK-$5,000)(Y!-$20)
Jerry Jeudy had four receptions for 39 yards in Week 8 after returning from a high ankle sprain. Obviously, Jerry is just getting warmed up after a long lay off but trust me, this kid is a stud. Look for a full return in Week 9 against the Cowboys. I have Jeudy around 9 targets for 6 receptions, 75 yards, and a touchdown.
Russell Gage ATL @ NO(29th)(FD-$5,800)(DK-$4,900)(Y!-$13)
I applaud Calvin Ridley for stepping up and realizing he needs to take time off. So many folks mention how weak-minded or selfish it is for someone in Ridley’s shoes to do so. Damn right it’s selfish and for good reason. I wish Calvin the best. From a football perspective, certain players now have an opening to make some noise. One of which being Russell Gage. Yes, Russell gave us a goose egg in Week 8 but I think that’s perfect! Low ownership for a 5 reception 80-yard two-touchdown game this Week 9!
Hunter Renfrow LV @ NYG(20th)(FD-$5,600)(DK-$4,800)(Y!-$17)
The awful news of the Henry Ruggs III car crash on Tuesday morning is shocking. I debated on what to say if anything at all. Well, here we are. I feel odd mentioning Hunter Renfrow here based on a football game. We need to be careful and responsible with every move that we make.
Tim Patrick DEN @ DAL(25th)(FD-$5,600)(DK-$4,700)(Y!-$15)
“PAY THE MAN!” A specific tweet I saw Sunday in regards to Tim. Patrick caught three passes for 64 yards on Sunday. Even with Courtland Sutton and Jerry Jeudy, there is room for Tim to be effective. His price tag remains low enough and his floor is high enough to be in the convo for Week 9!
Allen Robinson II CHI @ PIT(23rd)(FD-$5,500)(DK-$4,700)(Y!-$12)
Look, I know it’s all bad for Allen Robinson II. This is probably the worst stretch of his professional career. People are giving up on his left and right. Folks putting him down and talking bad about him. Not me. Not Bottom of the Barrel. I have been down and out before and some folks split on me completely. While a select few were in my corner. Granted the comparison is highly overdramatic but I am with A-Rob here! #DetroitvsEverybody
Van Jefferson Jr. LAR v TEN(32nd)(FD-$5,500)(DK-$5,500)(DK-$4,000)(Y!-$16)
There’s just no way Van doesn’t get loose in Week 9. Van Jefferson caught three passes for 88 yards against Houston on Sunday. This Rams team is firing on all cylinders and I want any and all pieces of it! What a sweet match-up too. Give me all the Van Jr. this week.
Tajae Sharpe ATL @ NO(29th)(FD-$5,500)(DK-$4,200)(Y!-$12)
Tajae is a nice sneaky play in Week 9. Great analysis eh? Sharpe caught 5-of-6 targets for 58 yards in Sunday’s Week 8 loss to the Panthers. Sharpe will also continue to start in place of Calvin Ridley. He tied Kyle Pitts for the team lead in targets. Sharpe should be on your radar in Week 9 as you’re building your lines!
Mecole Hardman KC v GB(7th)(FD-$5,400)(DK-$3,900)(Y!-$11)
Am I too into Mecole Hardman? Feel like I mention him each week here. All that aside, Hardman looked good on Monday night! Mecole had five receptions for 63 yards on Monday night. It’s pretty clear what his role is moving forward. He’s going to see around 4 or 5 targets and what he does with them will be respectable. Mecole Hardman has an air-tight floor.
Nico Collins HOU @ MIA(31st)(FD-$5,400)(DK-$3,600)(Y!-$12)
Houston WR Nico Collins caught his four targets for 55 yards in the Texans’ Week 8 loss. Collins was only behind Brandin Cooks in receiving yards. I have this odd feeling the Houston at Miami game is going to be lights out. Take an honest look at Nico in Week 9.
Rashod Bateman BAL v MIN(27th)(FD-$5,400)(DK-$4,000)(Y!-$16)
Baltimore wide receiver Rashod Bateman caught 3-of-6 targets for 80 yards. Bateman tied Marquise Brown for the team lead with 80 receiving yards, with 8 fewer targets! Bateman has now seen 12 targets through two games. This kid is about to explode! Make sure it’s on your Week 9 DFS roster!
Cedric Wilson DAL v DEN(10th)(FD-$5,300)(DK-$3,600)(Y!-$13)
Wilson caught 3 of 3 targets for 84 yards and a touchdown in the Cowboys’ Week 8 win. He also completed a 35-yard pass! That was fun to see! What this means to me is the fact Wilson has become a useful piece of the Cowboy’s offense. Week-to-week is a sweet place to be!
Elijah Moore NYJ @ IND(26th)(FD-$5,200)(DK-$4,200)(Y!-$11)
In the absence of Corey Davis the rookie, Elijah Moore had his best game as a professional. He caught all six of his targets and finished with 67 yards. Again, I know what you’re thinking! We should stack Moore with Mike White, right? Most folks would call you silly and stupid. Just tell them DetroitBeastie made you do it!
Travis Kelce KC v GB(15th)(FD-$7,800)(DK-$7,000)(Y!-$29)
The Kansas City Chiefs have looked off. On Monday night, at home, they barely squeaked by The New York football Giants. What gives? Patrick Mahomes threw his 10 interceptions and left us all scratching our heads. Travis finished the game with only four receptions on seven targets for a pedestrian 27 yards. Is Kelce losing his grip on the number one overall tight end spot? That’s a little overdramatic of me given the current landscape of tight ends. However, each week moving forward maybe I pause and think before paying up for Kelce at TE.
Albert Okwuegbunam DEN @ DAL(23rd)(FD-$5,600)(DK-$4,400)(Y!-$16)
On Tuesday, the Broncos have placed TE Noah Fant on the reserve/COVID-19 list. The veteran will likely miss this week leaving Albert Okwuegbunam as the main beneficiary. Per FantasyPros. Albert is in a prime spot, albeit under the radar!
Jared Cook LAC @ PHI(27th)(FD-$5,200)(DK-$3,300)(Y!-$16)
Jared Cook caught two of five targets for 25 yards in the Chargers Week 8. Just a blah day in general for Cook and the Chargers. Looking ahead the Eagles just blew out the Lions at home but they did just give up a massive performance to T.J. Hockenson on Sunday. Fingers crossed here with Cook!
Tyler Conklin MIN @ BAL(32nd)(FD-$5,200)(DK-$3,000)(Y!-$17)
Tyler Conklin caught 5-of-7 targets for 57 yards on Sunday night in Dallas. Conklin has been very productive in his last two games, averaging four receptions and 64 yards the last two. Looking at the match-up on Sunday I am licking my chops given the 32nd overall ranking of the Ravens against opposing tight ends!
Evan Engram NYG v LV(26th)(FD-$5,100)(DK-$3,800)(Y!-$14)
We’ve had an Evan Engram sighting! Monday’s touchdown reception was his first of the season but, only has 23 receptions for just 186 yards through six games. Granted he has missed two this year but could this be a sign of things to come? The match-up sure is sweet!
Mo Alie-Cox IND v NYJ(21st)(FD-$4,900)(DK-$3,300)(Y!-$12)
Alie-Cox should be on to the top of the depth chart at the tight end. Mo has scored four touchdowns over his last four games but was shut out on Sunday. Tough break but again we’re looking for any edge on a weekly basis! Think we found one for Mo Alie in Week 9!
Tyler Kroft NYJ @ IND(24th)(FD-$4,800)(DK-$2,800)(Y!-$10)
Kroft only saw two targets out of Mike White’s 45 passing attempts. He did well with them, catching both for 20 yards and one touchdown. This is the kind of streak no one has the stones to mention. Or even think of it! Tyler Kroft’s back-to-back games with a touchdown! Who’s with me?!
Tommy Sweeney BUF @ JAX(31st)(FD-$4,700)(DK-$3,100)(Y!-$12)
Any meathead can gather why Tommy Sweeney is mentioned in B&B this week! Sweeny filled in for the injured Dawson Knox in Week 8. Sweeney saw more than his usual workload on Sunday. It was the second-best game of his career! No real word on Dawson Knox yet for Week 9. Either way, at the price, Tommy is on my shortlist for TEs in Week 9!
