Bottom of the Barrel Week 9 Wide Receivers NFL DFS Breakdown

Cooper Crush LAR @ TB(13^th)(FD-$9,000)(DK-$8,900)(Y!-$39)

Justin Jefferson MIN @ WSH(25^th)(FD-$9,000)(DK-$8,600)(Y!-$35)

We have a tie! Both Justin and Cooper are priced at $9,000 on FanDuel while Kupp is $300 more on DraftKings and $4 more on Yahoo. In terms of what each player brings to the table on a weekly basis well, that is public record. Yes, it is also tremendous.

When it comes to Jefferson the only real issue is the fact, he’s only scored two touchdowns this year. The matchup for Kirk Cousins and Justin is as sweet as pie! The Washington Commanders secondary is allowing 14.2 yards per catch to receivers on the season. I could see a scenario where JJ scores multiple times thus doubling his seasonal touchdown output.

On the flip side, Rams head coach Sean McVay has been quoted as saying, “I am kicking myself for leaving Cooper in late that game.” The 49ers beat LA 31-14 and while us DFS players and seasonal fantasy footballers have mixed feelings about it, personally, no way should he have been in that game. Oh well, right? What’s done is done! Don’t expect Kupp to practice much, or at all, later this week but I’d bet my bottom dollar he suits up on Sunday.

Allen Lazard GB @ DET(27^th)(FD-$6,500)(DK-$6,000)(Y!-$19)

Yes, Lazard sat out last week with a shoulder injury. Does it worry me for this week in Detroit? Not at all given the fact that he was back at practice on Wednesday the 2^nd. Although his practice was limited, I am fully expecting his activity level to be kicked up a notch. This match-up against the lowly Lions looks too good to be true. Detroit’s secondary is allowing the fifth most points per game to wideouts. The Packers have always been a run first team but let’s not kid ourselves into thinking Aaron Rodgers, Allen Lazard, and Green Bay won’t put the pedal to the metal and hang 30+ points Sunday at Ford Field. I have Allen around 7-8 targets, 5-6 receptions, 70 yards, and a receiving touchdown. If he’s active I will personally have 100% ownership!

Christian Kirk JAX vs. LV(17^th)(FD-$6,300)(DK-$5,500)(Y!-$17)

Remember a few weeks ago when Kirk was literally the focal point of this young up-and-coming offense? Way back when James Robinson was tearing it up and second year back Travis Etienne Jr. was struggling to get going? That seems like a lifetime ago! Seems like a different season all together! I cannot be the only one who has thought this! Now James Robinson is a New York Jet, Travis Etienne Jr. has gone Super Saiyan, and Kirk has gone back to just a guy with 40 or less yards in three of the last four games. While the Raiders defense is allowing the seventh most fantasy points to running backs, I see a spot for Christian to return to prominence once again! The Jags have clearly got Travis going and the only thing left to do is add Kirk into the mix! Let’s count on 8 targets, 6 receptions, 70 yards, and a touchdown for Christian in Week 9.

Adam Thielen MIN @ WSH(25^th)(FD-$6,200)(DK-$5,600)(Y!-$19)

Speaking of things, I never saw coming, TJ Hockenson being traded from Detroit to Minnesota is tops on that list. Much like the Claypool move to Chicago, not sure how much we see TJ on Sunday but regardless of that Thielen needs to be on our radar this week. Adam did hurt last week but at last check he logged a full practice on Wednesday the 2^nd. That’s good news given the unbelievably plus match-up in Washington. The Commander’s defense is in the bottom portion of the league in terms of touchdowns allowed and yards per target given up to opposing wide receivers. Adam is 32 years old, but he still has some gas left in the tank. Look for the Vikings to score 24+ points while Adam receives 7 targets, 5 receptions, 55 yards, and a score!

Joshua Palmer LAC @ ATL(31^st)(FD-$6,200)(DK-$5,100)(Y!-$19)

Sports betting and daily fantasy sports aren’t always hard. Sometimes it’s so simple we miss it. In today’s day and age of optimizers, cheat sheets, and ownership percentage we can over consume. We can literally dig so deep that we do a complete 360 and wind up back where we started. Trust me, I speak from experience! The Chargers head to Atlanta without Mike Williams and without Keenan Allen. I’d be willing to bet Austin Ekeler is a very popular play on Sunday but why not Palmer? He has cleared concussion protocol and faces a Falcons team that struggles against opposing wide receivers. What I love most is the fact that the Falcons have a young and fun offense who can score points in bunches! Meaning, we may see a massive point total in this one with Palmer and Herbert connecting several times in the endzone! How does 8 targets, 6 receptions, 75 yards, and a touchdown for Josh sound?

Darnell Mooney CHI vs. MIA(23^rd)(FD-$6,100)(DK-$4,700)(Y!-$16)

Chicago Bears fans rejoiced earlier this week as they added Chase Claypool to the mix! Personally speaking, I love it too! From a seasonal perspective, betting angle, and most of all from a DFS point of view! How can you not? Who knows how much we see him this week against the Dolphins, but two things come to mind. This bumps up a surging Justin Fields and gives Mooney some room to run around. We should all come together and be all over Mooney this week against a Dolphins team who made the Lions look acceptable on offense last week. Darnell caught all five of his targets for 70 yards last week. After a slow start to the season, Mooney has tailed at least 50 receiving yards in each of the last five games. Let the good times roll as they kick off big time for the Bears in Week 9. Mooney should see about 6 targets, 5 receptions, 65 yards, and finally snag that elusive first touchdown of the year!

Romeo Doubs GB @ DET(27^th)(FD-$6,100)(DK-$5,300)(Y!-$14)

Without or without Lazard this week in Detroit Doubs is a homerun hitting wide receiver. All it takes is one against this soft defense to hit value and soar into the money line. Romeo will do just that on 6-7 targets. Lock and load him along with as many other Packers as you can stuff into your DFS lines this week.

Garrett Wilson NYJ vs. BUF(12^th)(FD-$5,800)(DK-$4,800)(Y!-$14)

As mentioned in the Bottom of the Barrel running backs article with Devin Singletary, I do believe game flow and/or game script will favor Garrett Wilson. Whether the Jets are up 50 points or down 50 points we can count on Wilson to be heavily involved. This kid is just a smart and cheap play this week. Garrett has also been averaging 12.6 yards a reception. So, with some simple math I have Wilson at six receptions, in back-to-back weeks, multiplied by 12.6 equals 75.6 yards in Week 9. In a weird way I don’t even think that is his floor or even his ceiling in Week 9.

K.J. Osborn MIN @ WSH(25^th)(FD-$5,300)(DK-$4,200)(Y!-$14)

God forbid anything happens to Adam Thielen but either way I see Vikings quarterback, Kirk Cousins, attempting upwards of 35 passes against a leaky Washington secondary. Which is good news for all offensive weapons here. I look at K.J. as the sneakiest in your face look at me play of the week! Well, him and Josh Palmer! We should expect about 5 targets, 4 receptions, and a floor of 30 yards for Osborn in Week 9.
