Fantasy Football Players Championship FootballGuys Tournament Draft Recap
As a Fantasy Football junkie and draft addict I feel like the FFPC FootballGuys Players Championship was made for me. For those that don’t know it is a season long tournament that starts drafting leagues at the beginning of May all the way through to the first game of the season…Oh and the fun part, the grand-prize is $500K, that’s right a cool half a million. I also like the tournament because you can pretty much draft every night from Memorial day weekend until it fills at 13,200 entries.
As of June 1st, I am 7 FBG drafts deep and I finally got the 1.01. I was soo excited I thought I would write about it!! I will post the roster requirements and link to the draft board below, so you can follow along. It is important to note that in the FFPC Tight Ends get 1.5 ppr and everyone else get 1.0 ppr. This makes TEs much more valuable.
Starting Lineup Requirements:
1 TE (1.5 ppr)
2 Flex (RB, WR or TE)
1 Team D/Special Teams
1.01 RB Christin McCaffery
CMC rarely falls past the 1.01 so the only way to get your hands on him is to get that top pick. It was an instant decision. McCaffery only played in 3 games in 2020 but had 3 top-5 finishes at the position. You literally can’t ask for anything more on a game to game basis.
2.12 WR Justin Jefferson
The 2|3 turn is always a fun spot to draft, especially when you already have CMC in your back pocket. I love everything about Jefferson from his down field prowess to his route running ability. In 2020 the rookie had 6 top 12 receiving weeks, which tied for 3rd in the league.
3.01 WR Calvin Ridley
I wanted to take DK Metcalf here but the rumors of Julio Jones to Seattle scare me at this point in the draft. Ridley will be a stud either way and may see 160-plus targets if/when Julio leaves.
4.12 WR Robert Woods
Woods is one of my go to WRs in the 4th round …again, and to be able to get him at 4.12 feels AWESOME! Stafford is an underdog MVP candidate in this Rams offense and I think they could pop back to 2018 form.
5.01 WR Cooper Kupp
I have been dying to stack Woods and Kupp for the first 6 FBG drafts and I was finally able to do it. Kupp will enter the 2021 season just turning 28. He is my WR4 and him or Woods should put up a WR1 week every week.
So I started modified Zero RB with CMC and then took 4 straight WRs. This may seem a bit chalky but I love the structure if CMC stays healthy. WRs in the middle rounds routinely score more points than RBs in the same range so I consistently take WRs in rounds 3-7. I will be looking to pound RB here to find 1 Rb that can fill my RB2 spot.
6.12 RB Leonard Fournette
I personally think Ronald Jones is a better RB than Uncle Lenny, but it doesn’t matter what I think. Arians loves Fournette and he gets the receiving work too.
7.01 RB Michael Carter
Carter has been flying up in ADP. Post NFL Draft Carter was going in round 9m, but since then his ADP has climbed to 7.6 according to www.FantasyMojo.com ADP. One of the tough things about picking on the end of rounds is I sometimes have to “reach” to get my guys. Carter fits the Jets blocking scheme perfectly and is the most talented back on the Jets.
8.12 RB Tony Pollard
This was my favorite pick of the draft. This is a league or tournament winning type pick. If Zeke goes down I will be unstoppable with CMC/Pollard as my 2 RBs to go along with my 4 WRs I took in rounds 3-6. Pollard got the start week 15 with Zeke hurt and he finished as a top 3 RB that week with 31 fantasy points. I am looking to draft Pollard on most of my tournament teams.
9.01 QB Matt Stafford
I had to go get my guy to finish off the stack. I took Stafford a round or two early but I don’t think he would have lasted 24 picks to make it back to me, the stack was that important!! The Rams are loaded with weapons and if this offense gets back to it’s explosive self from a few years ago I’m gonna be in great shape.
10.12 TE Anthony Firkser
11.01 TE Hunter Henry
I needed to get a TE with the premium scoring and waiting worked out perfectly for me. Firkser has 90 target upside in Tennessee with AJ Brown as the only other viable receiving option.
Hunter Henry could be the #1 receiving option in New England. The WRs are weak at best and TE Jonnu Smith is the only other talented pass catcher. I like Jonnu better but for this build and to get him as TE18 is crazy.
12.12 RB Chuba Hubbard
I am a sucker for handcuffs. I had some CMC last year and didn’t handcuff him. I will always regret it. Chuba is a talented rookie that could spark if God forbid CMC goes down.
13.01 WR Gabe Davis- Love the Bills offense
14.12 WR Tre’Quan Smith- #2 WR and deep threat for Jameis Winston
15.01 QB Trey Lance- High upside QB in Shannahan offense
16.12 Emmanuel Sanders- Late Bills stack
17.01 Miami Defense
18.12 K Ryan Succop
19.01 TE Mo Alie-Cox- Wentz loves the TE
20.12 WR DeSean Jackson- Another piece of the Rams offense
QB- Matt Stafford, Trey Lance
RB- CMC, Leonard Fournette, Michael Carter, Tony Pollard, Chuba Hubbard
WR- Justin Jefferson, Calvin Ridley, Robert Woods, Cooper Kupp, Gabe Davis, Tre’Quan Smith, Emmanuel Sanders
TE- Anthony Firkser, Hunter Henry, Mo Alie-Cox
K- Ryan Succop
All in all I really liked this draft. I got sniped a few times but I think I executed my strategy pretty well. With a bunch of luck here I can win $500k!! See you all in the draft room.
