Have any of you heard of 100s day? Or backward day? I think both are affiliated with children in school somehow. I have no kids of my own, but I do see all of yours on social media. Last night the hockey slate was completely backward! The Canucks were shutout out in Vancouver against the Red Wings. The New York Rangers managed only one goal against the Islanders. To make matters worse my stack of the night, Florida, lost to the Golden Knights! The only game that was remotely close to what I had predicted was Philadelphia hosting the Predators. Which saw Philly win! Everything was upside down!
It reminds me of one specific cliché. Humble yourself before someone else does! Just when we think we have it all figured out we come crashing back down to earth. In a way, I think that’s a healthy move. It teaches us several good lessons. One of which is, we cannot control people, places, and things. It’s the universe’s way of safely knocking us down a peg.
As we turn out attention to this evening one thing is clear, leave yesterday behind and we focus on getting the best possible outcome for today!
Here is a direct link to our NBA projections for Friday the 18th! https://teamriseorfall.com/nba-dfs-projections/
FLORIDA PANTHERS L2 at Anaheim Ducks 7p Est
Sam Bennett L2 & PP1(FD-$6,400)(DK-$5,900)
Anthony Duclair L2 & PP1(FD-$5,900)(DK-$4,300)
Jonathan Huberdeau L2 & PP1(FD-$8,800)(DK-$6,700)
My thought process here is simple. Double down on the Panthers as some folks fade after their lackluster performance last night in Vegas. We are allowed to have an off night!
The Florida offense is still averaging a healthy 4.10 goals a game while only allowing opposing teams 2.85 goals a game. Once again, I am no mathematician, but the numbers check out on how to run a successful winning team. The Panther’s power-play remains one of the better units in hockey as they score around 23.8% of the time. Having scored 46 total goals on the man advantage makes this power-play unit good for 9th overall in the NHL.
The Ducks have only mustered up around 2.80 goals a game this season while opposing teams are scoring around 3.12 goals a game. Surprisingly the Anaheim penalty kill has been successful around 82.9% of the time. Which is good for 6th overall in the league! Truth be told I was also shocked at those percentages! The Ducks, on average, are allowing 3.12 goals a game so far this year.
As we dig in a little deeper, I can already hear the folks on social today. Should read something like is, “The Panthers are playing on back-to-back nights having just lost to Vegas and could be a tad tired so stack up Ducks and move along!” So what? Playing two nights in a row doesn’t magically make up inept. Florida is a damn good team with outstanding skaters.
The Panthers are a strong competitive team, and they steal a victory in Anaheim tonight. Final scores FLA 4-3!
CALGARY FLAMES L1 vs. Buffalo Sabers 9p Est
Elias Lindholm L1 & PP1(FD-$8,100)(DK-$7,000)
Johnny Gaudreau L1 & PP1(FD-$8,900)(DK-$7,600)
Matthew Tkachuck L1 & PP1(FD-$7,900)(DK-$6,900)
Buffalo heads to Calgary tonight after being throttled by the Oilers in Edmonton last night 6-1. Really the game that went according to my plan. Let’s look a little closer!
The Flames have been on a little tear while scoring, on average, 3.50 goals a game. While Buffalo, per usual, is allowing opponents to score around 3.50 goals a game. So, on paper this game should already start from 3.50 to 0, right?
On defense, the Flames have been stout only allowing 2.40 goals per game. On the flip side, the Buffalo offense has been pedestrian with only 2.60 scores a contest. Let’s not overthink this one. It’s Friday we want some peace and a few easy decisions. Stacking Calgary tonight at home is a no-brainer!
Calgary will hang around 5 or 6 goals tonight while Buffalo does what they can. I love the OVER 6 goals along with CGY to win. Final score 6-3!
OTTAWA SENATORS L1 vs. Philadelphia Flyers 7p Est
Josh Norris L1 & PP1(FD-$6,900)(DK-$6,500)
Brady Tkachuck L1 & PP1(FD-$7,200)(DK-$7,100)
Colin White L1 & PP1(FD-$4,600)(DK-$4,000)
Ottawa stays home tonight with an overall record of 21–34–5 and has lost their last three games. All three of these were on home ice. So, Chris why should we bother with the Sens tonight? Good question! I had taken a few notes on the Sens last night before Philadelphia beat Nashville at home. Do not let that discourage you tonight. The Flyers played their hearts out last night against a good Nashville team. That mixed with a back-to-back could be trouble!
Brady Tkachuk is leading Ottawa in points with 44, to go with 20 goals and 24 assists! He is the definition of doing it all, for Ottawa at least. Josh Norris is leading the Sens in goals with 24. Eleven of them have come on the power play. In addition, Norris has rattled off 111 total shots on goal!
To be fair, the Senators have had some major issues with their goaltending, but I do firmly believe the Flyers will be skating with lead legs after last night. Stacking OTT1 is a definite risk but can set our lines apart if they play well! Two bad teams tonight but with a few outstanding skaters. Ottawa sneaks this one out at home to end their home ice losing streak!
Final score in Ottawa tonight 4-2 Senators win!
ONE-OFF ALERT! Connor Brown L2 & PP2(FD-$5,200)(DK-$4,600)
If we’re going to take risks and get wild tonight look to add in Mr. Brown with our Ottawa stacks! What’s the worst that could happen? We lose a couple of bucks. The rewards far outweigh the risks tonight, in my mind at least.
