MLB DFS Preview for Draftkings and Fanduel lineups 9/12/23

Welcome, baseball fans, to the MLB DFS Preview for Tuesday, September 12, 2023. We have an exciting nine-game slate ahead of us, starting at 7:05 PM.
We’ve got a solid slate tonight with some interesting matchups. Here’s a breakdown of the key players to consider for your DFS lineups.
Pitching Options
Freddie Peralta ($10,500)
Our top pitching option for tonight is Freddie Peralta. He boasts an impressive 30.8% strikeout rate, although his 8.7% walk rate and tendency to allow fly balls are areas of concern. Peralta has a 3.57 skill-interactive ERA (SIERA) and is facing the Miami Marlins, who have a 20.5% strikeout rate against right-handed pitching. They also rank 22nd in the league with a 94 wRC+ and a 149 ISO, indicating a lack of power and consistency. Peralta’s high strikeout potential makes him an attractive option.
Justin Verlander ($10,300)
Next up is Justin Verlander, who will be pitching at home for the Astros against the Oakland Athletics. The Athletics have the fifth-worst strikeout rate in the league at 24.6% against right-handed pitchers. While Verlander has a lower strikeout rate (21%), the matchup is favorable. The Athletics have a 91 wRC+ and a 158 ISO against righties, indicating that they struggle against them. Verlander’s experience and the potential for strikeouts make him an option to consider.
Max Scherzer ($10,100)
Max Scherzer brings a 28.6% strikeout rate to the table, making him a strong option despite allowing 1.71 home runs per nine innings. He faces a tough matchup against the Toronto Blue Jays, who have a 107 wRC+ and a 26th-ranked 20.3% strikeout rate against right-handed pitching. While Scherzer has a higher strikeout rate than Verlander, the matchup is more challenging, so proceed with caution.
Joe Ryan ($9,900)
Joe Ryan offers value at a lower price point. He boasts an impressive 29.1% strikeout rate, although his 1.72 home runs per nine innings are a concern. Ryan faces the Tampa Bay Rays, who have a 24.2% strikeout rate against right-handed pitchers. The Rays have a 121 wRC+ and a 196 ISO, making them a formidable offense. However, Ryan’s strikeout potential and lower price make him an interesting option for GPP contests.
Stacking Opportunities
Houston Astros
Despite a lackluster performance last night, the Houston Astros are in a great spot tonight against JP Sears of the Athletics. Sears has struggled with a 16% walk rate and a 15.2% strikeout rate this season. The Astros lineup, led by Jose Altuve, Yordan Alvarez, and Kyle Tucker, should bounce back against a struggling pitcher. Don’t let recency bias affect your decision to roster Astros players.
New York Mets and Arizona Diamondbacks
Both sides of the Mets vs. Diamondbacks game present stacking opportunities. Jose Bautista for the Mets and Ryan Nelson for the Diamondbacks are not dominant pitchers. The game is expected to be high-scoring, with implied run totals of 4.96 for the Mets and 5.04 for the Diamondbacks. Players like Pete Alonso, Francisco Lindor, and Ketel Marte should be considered for your lineups.
Coors Field – Chicago Cubs
Coors Field is always a favorable stacking option, and tonight is no exception. Cody Bellinger of the Chicago Cubs, priced at $4,600, offers substantial upside in this hitter-friendly park. Consider adding Bellinger to your lineup to capitalize on the high-scoring potential at Coors Field.
Dong Calls
For potential home runs tonight, keep an eye on Jose Altuve, who faces a favorable matchup against JP Sears. Altuve has been in excellent form recently and has the ability to go yard multiple times. Additionally, Cody Bellinger, playing at Coors Field, is another strong candidate for a home run with his power and the favorable hitting conditions.
That wraps up our MLB DFS Preview for Tuesday, September 12, 2023. Best of luck with your contests tonight, and remember to make your picks wisely based on these insights.
