MLB DFS Preview

Welcome to the MLB DFS Preview for Tuesday, September 26, 2023. We’ve got an exciting 10-game MLB DFS lineup to dissect tonight.

Weather and Ballpark Factors

Now, let’s turn our attention to the weather and ballpark factors that could influence tonight’s games. As we head into the late stages of the MLB season, we’re seeing cooler temperatures in many stadiums, and there’s a noticeable breeze blowing in. Additionally, there’s a slight chance of rain in some areas.

Here’s a quick rundown of the weather for today’s games:

  • Boston: It’s a bit cooler in Boston with a breeze blowing in, but it’s still a great hitters’ park.
  • New York: Over in New York, the Mets are playing, and it’s a bit cooler with a breeze.
  • Atlanta: Atlanta is experiencing slightly warmer temperatures, around 80 degrees, making it a good hitting environment.
  • Chicago: There’s a chance of rain in Chicago, but the temperatures are around 80 degrees.
  • Arizona: The game in Arizona has cooler temperatures and a breeze blowing in from center field.
  • Minnesota: Over in Minnesota, it’s a bit cooler with a breeze.

It’s worth noting that the temperature disparity between Atlanta, at around 80 degrees, and some of the other stadiums where temperatures are below 60 degrees, could impact tonight’s games.

Pitching Analysis

Now, let’s take a closer look at the pitching options for tonight’s slate:

Kevin Gossman ($11,100): Gossman is the top pitcher tonight, coming off an impressive performance against the Yankees. He boasts a 31.4% strikeout rate, a 7.2% walk rate, and a 0.96 home runs per nine rate. His 3.31 skill-interactive ERA (SIERA) is outstanding, and he’s known for performing well against the Yankees. Expect a solid outing with 7-10 strikeouts.

Zac Eflin ($10,700): Eflin is another strong option, especially given the Rays’ need for wins. He has a 26.6% strikeout rate and a low 3.5% walk rate. With a 0.94 home runs per nine rate and a 3.30 SIERA, he’s in good form. Facing the Red Sox, he’s a dependable choice.

Braxton Garrett ($9,400): Garrett provides value at his price, with a 24% strikeout rate, a 4.2% walk rate, and a 1.04 home runs per nine rate. His 3.55 SIERA is solid, and he benefits from the cooler and windier conditions in New York. While his strikeout upside might be slightly lower, he’s a strong option against the Mets.

Bailey Ober ($9,000): Ober is an interesting choice, offering strikeout potential against the Athletics. He has a 23.9% strikeout rate and a 50% fly ball rate, which could be concerning. However, his matchup against Oakland, with their 24.6% strikeout rate against righties, is favorable. If you’re looking for an affordable option with strikeout potential, Ober fits the bill.

Seth Lugo ($8,000): Lugo provides salary relief and has a favorable matchup against the Giants. With a 23.3% strikeout rate and a 5.8% walk rate, he’s been solid this season. The ballpark in San Francisco is pitcher-friendly, and Lugo’s 3.94 SIERA suggests he could have a good outing.

Michael King ($8,600): King faces the Blue Jays again after an impressive performance in his last start. However, he’s still a relatively unproven starter with a high strikeout rate (31.1%) but limited innings. While tempting, it’s essential to manage expectations and consider other options at his price point.

Top Stacking Opportunities

Now, let’s identify some top stacking opportunities for tonight’s games:

Atlanta Braves: The Braves are in an excellent hitting spot, with temperatures around 80 degrees and Justin Steele struggling in his recent starts. With a 5.10 implied run total, consider stacking Braves hitters.

Arizona Diamondbacks: Arizona has a clear motivation to win as they’re in a tight race for the wild card spot. They face Jose Urena, who has struggled this season. Look to stack Diamondbacks hitters, including Corbin Carroll, Ketel Marte, Christian Walker, Tommy Pham, and Lourdes Gurriel.

Texas Rangers: Run it back with the Rangers, who had a strong offensive performance last night. They’re motivated to secure their division, and Corey Seager, Adolis Garcia, Marcus Semien, Josh Young, Evan Carter, and Mitch Garver are all hitters to consider.

Tampa Bay Rays: The Rays face Tanner Houck in a favorable hitters’ park. While they might not have as strong a motivation, the ballpark factors are in their favor. Keep an eye on Yandy Diaz and Randy Arozarena’s statuses, as their presence in the lineup could boost the team’s power.

Remember to consider the motivations of teams in the final stages of the season, as some are still fighting for playoff spots or seeding, which can impact their performance.
