The best of the best?
The early slate of Thursday’s MLB DFS action features some intriguing pitching options, including Shohei Ohtani, Julio Urias, and Kyle Wright. These three pitchers are all capable of putting up big numbers and are worth considering for your lineup.
First up is Shohei Ohtani, who is having a monster season both on the mound and at the plate. On the pitching side, Ohtani has been dominant against both left-handed and right-handed batters. He has a strikeout rate of over 30% against both sides of the plate and a low xwOBA of .284 against lefties and .225 against righties. Additionally, Ohtani’s opponent, the Oakland Athletics, have a high strikeout rate against top-tier right-handed pitchers like Ohtani, making him an even more appealing option.
Next up is Julio Urias, who has been a reliable left-handed starter for the Dodgers. Urias has been particularly effective against left-handed batters, holding them to a low xwOBA of .267 and a strikeout rate of 24.2% over the last two years. His opponent, the Pittsburgh Pirates, have struggled against top-tier left-handed pitchers, batting just .209 against them over the last two years.
Finally, Kyle Wright is an interesting option against the Miami Marlins, who have struggled against right-handed starters this season. Wright has a respectable strikeout rate of 23% against lefties and 22% against righties, and has been effective at limiting hard contact with a low HC% of 30%. However, Wright’s control has been an issue at times, as he has a walk rate of 8% against lefties and 5.7% against righties.
