Welcome to our latest edition of MLB DFS Top Plays for Saturday 4/22/23 early slate. Today, we’ll be focusing on some of the top batters to target in daily fantasy baseball. We’ve analyzed each player’s matchup, recent performance, and projections to give you a well-rounded view of their potential. Whether you’re looking for a high-priced stud or a value play to fit into your lineup, we’ve got you covered. So, without further ado, let’s dive into our top plays for today’s slate.
Nick Castellanos poised to dominate against struggling lefty Kyle Freeland
First up, we have Nick Castellanos of the Philadelphia Phillies. He’s facing off against Kyle Freeland of the Colorado Rockies, who has struggled against right-handed hitters like Castellanos. In fact, Castellanos has slugged .558 in his last 146 plate appearances against soft-throwing lefties like Freeland over the last two seasons. Combine that with the fact that current Phillies hitters have an OPS of .826 against lefties like Freeland, and you’ve got a recipe for success.
Next, we have Byron Buxton of the Minnesota Twins. He’s going up against Chad Kuhl of the Washington Nationals, who relies heavily on his slider. Buxton has been crushing right-handers who use the slider over the last two seasons, slugging .544 in his last 134 plate appearances against them. While Kuhl has a high strikeout rate against hitters like Buxton, other matchup data favors the Twins.
Carlos Correa and Jorge Polanco: Twins Hitters to Watch on Saturday’s Early Slate
Carlos Correa of the Twins is also a great play today. He’s facing off against Kuhl, who is a bottom-tier right-hander. Correa has a wOBA of .402 with seven home runs in his last 150 plate appearances against right-handers like Kuhl over the last two seasons. Again, while Kuhl has a high strikeout rate against hitters like Correa, other matchup data favors the Twins.
Jorge Polanco, also of the Twins, is another player to keep an eye on. He’s been slugging .545 in his last 246 plate appearances against right-handers with high flyball rates like Kuhl over the last two seasons. Once again, while Kuhl has a high strikeout rate against hitters like Polanco, other matchup data favors the Twins.
Bryson Stott of the Phillies may not have the same track record as some of the other players on this list, but he’s still a solid option. He’s facing off against Freeland, who struggles against left-handed hitters. And while Stott has had a slow start to the season, current Phillies hitters have an OPS of .826 against lefties like Freeland.
Charlie Blackmon Looks to Overcome Road Woes Against Left-Handed Pitcher Cristopher Sanchez
Charlie Blackmon of the Rockies is another left-handed hitter going up against a left-handed pitcher in Cristopher Sanchez of the Phillies. Blackmon hasn’t performed as well on the road over the last year, and for all you BVP Bros out there, current Rockies hitters are batting .000 in their last nine at-bats against Sanchez so there’s that.
Max Kepler of the Twins rounds out our list of top plays. He’s projected to bat first today against Kuhl, who has struggled against hitters like Kepler over the last two seasons, allowing a .308 batting average. However, Kepler has only batted .226 against right-handers with high flyball rates over the last two seasons.
Last but not least, we have Jurickson Profar of the Rockies. He’s projected to bat first against Sanchez, who has a high groundball rate. Profar has struggled against lefties with high groundball rates over the last two seasons, but he’s still projected to bat first today and is a solid value play at just $3200 on DraftKings.
