Welcome to today’s MLB DFS Top Plays article, where we’re going to focus on individual batters to help you craft the perfect lineup on DraftKings. We’ve combed through the data and have identified nine players who we believe represent excellent value on today’s slate.
First up, we have Bryan Reynolds of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Reynolds is facing Jose Urena of the Colorado Rockies, who has struggled against right-handers with low strikeout rates. Reynolds has a .577 slugging percentage in his last 302 plate appearances against right-handers with similar profiles to Urena. Additionally, current Pirates hitters have an OPS of .863 against bottom-tier right-handers like Urena over the last two years.
Next on our list is Byron Buxton of the Minnesota Twins, who’s facing Chris Sale of the Boston Red Sox. Buxton has a .727 slugging percentage in his last 46 plate appearances against left-handers who rely heavily on the slider, like Sale. Plus, pitchers with similar repertoires to Sale have an ERA of 4.64 against the Twins over the last year.
Andrew McCutchen, also of the Pirates, is facing Urena as well. McCutchen has an OPS of .946 in 67 plate appearances this season, making him an excellent play. Just like Reynolds, current Pirates hitters have an OPS of .863 against bottom-tier right-handers like Urena over the last two years.
Moving on to Nate Lowe of the Texas Rangers, is a name that should be on every DFS player’s radar for today’s slate. The first baseman has a favorable matchup against Brad Keller and the Kansas City Royals. Keller has struggled against left-handed batters with Lowe’s profile, allowing a slugging percentage of .531 over the last two years.
Carlos Correa of the Minnesota Twins is facing Sale as well. Correa has a .537 slugging percentage in his last 114 plate appearances against bottom-tier left-handers like Sale over the last two seasons. Pitchers with similar repertoires to Sale have an ERA of 4.64 against the Twins over the last year.
Charlie Blackmon of the Colorado Rockies is facing Vincent Velasquez of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Velasquez has allowed a .567 slugging percentage against left-handed batters who hit for high average, like Blackmon, over the last two years. Blackmon is definitely worth considering in your lineup today.
Ke’Bryan Hayes of the Pirates is also facing Urena. Urena has allowed a .941 slugging percentage against right-handed batters who hit the ball on the ground often, like Hayes, over the last two years. Just like Reynolds and McCutchen, current Pirates hitters have an OPS of .863 against bottom-tier right-handers like Urena over the last two years.
Carlos Santana of the Pirates is also facing Urena. Urena has allowed a .600 slugging percentage against left-handed batters who hit for high average, like Santana, over the last two years. Santana’s solid plate discipline and ability to draw walks makes him an excellent play today.
Lastly, we have Alex Verdugo of the Boston Red Sox, who’s facing Sonny Gray of the Minnesota Twins. Verdugo has a .355 wOBA with 7 home runs in his last 182 plate appearances against top-tier right-handers like Gray over the last two seasons. Current Red Sox hitters also have an OPS of .828 against soft-throwing right-handers like Gray over the last two years.
