Detroit Tigers vs Tyler Wells
As we approach Friday, 4/23/23, the MLB DFS top stacks are starting to emerge. One team that looks particularly enticing is the Detroit Tigers. They will face off against Tyler Wells and the Baltimore Orioles.
Javier Baez is projected to bat third and comes with a DK salary of $3,400. While he’s struggled in his last five games with a wOBA of only .204 in 13 plate appearances, he still presents a solid option at shortstop. Riley Greene is another intriguing option. He has an OPS of .850 against right-handers who rely heavily on the slider like Wells, and at a salary of $3,600, he is a solid option for your outfield.
If you’re looking for some value picks, look no further than Spencer Torkelson and Eric Haase. Torkelson has an OPS of .923 in 85 AB’s against right-handers who rely heavily on the slider like Wells, while matchup data favors Haase. Both players come with a salary under $3,200 and present great value for their positions.
While the Tigers have a 3-star average matchup against Wells, there are still some potential landmines in their lineup. Matt Vierling and Tyler Nevin have struggled against right-handers who rely heavily on the slider, with Vierling batting just .192 and Nevin boasting a wOBA of only .220 over their last two seasons. Nonetheless, they could still offer some value picks if you’re looking to fill out your roster.
Other options to consider include Nick Maton, Akil Baddoo, Kerry Carpenter, Jonathan Schoop, Miguel Cabrera, Jake Rogers, and Zach McKinstry. Each presents their own unique matchup data and DK rating, but with a 3-star average matchup against Wells, there are plenty of options to choose from.
Overall, the Detroit Tigers present a compelling stack for Friday’s MLB DFS slate. With a mix of proven performers and value picks, they offer a variety of options for any lineup strategy. Keep an eye on their performance as the day approaches, as they could be the key to a successful DFS lineup.
Tigers 5 Man Stack
My top choices for the stack are Javier Baez, Riley Greene, Spencer Torkelson, Eric Haase, and Jonathan Schoop. These five players offer a mix of power potential and value, giving your lineup versatility and strength throughout.
Baez is projected to bat third and while he’s struggled in his last five games, he still presents a solid option at shortstop. Greene has shown great promise against right-handers who rely heavily on the slider, while Torkelson and Haase both offer value with solid performance and matchup data. Schoop has a proven track record and is projected to bat fifth, rounding out the stack with a reliable option in the middle of the lineup.
Oakland A’s vs Jon Gray
The Oakland Athletics are set to take on the Texas Rangers, and there are several batters to keep an eye on in this matchup.
Esteury Ruiz has been on a hot streak lately, batting .302 in his last 63 at-bats this season. He is projected to bat first and faces off against Jon Gray, who has struggled against the Athletics in the past. Shea Langeliers, on the other hand, has had a bit of a cold spell recently with a well-hit rate of just 8.3% in his last 12 at-bats over the last 5 days. However, he has shown promise and could still make an impact in the game.
Jace Peterson is also worth watching as he has a solid track record hitting on the road, batting .311 in 161 at-bats over the last year. Brent Rooker and Conner Capel are projected to bat fourth and eighth, respectively. Rooker has performed well when hitting on the road, batting .308 in 26 at-bats over the last year. Capel, meanwhile, has struggled against hard-throwing right-handed pitchers like Gray but has a solid 12.5% well-hit rate against them over the last 2 seasons.
Tony Kemp and Aledmys Diaz will look to turn their luck around against Gray, as they have struggled against him in the past with a batting average of .143 and .182, respectively. Ryan Noda and Kevin Smith are both projected to bat towards the bottom of the lineup, but they could still provide some value in this matchup. Noda has limited data against Gray, but he could surprise with a solid performance. Smith has limited matchup data as well, but what we have seen so far favors him.
Finally, Jesus Aguilar, Carlos Perez, and Tyler Wade will be batting towards the bottom of the lineup and may not provide much value in this game.
Overall, the Athletics have some solid batters with potential to perform well in this matchup. Keep an eye on Ruiz, Peterson, Rooker, and Capel to potentially provide some solid fantasy points.
A’s 5 Man Stack
My top choices for the stack are Esteury Ruiz, Jace Peterson, Brent Rooker, Conner Capel, and Tony Kemp. These five players offer a mix of consistency and power potential, giving your lineup strength throughout.
Ruiz has been hot lately projected to leadoff. Peterson has a solid track record hitting on the road and could provide some reliable scoring opportunities. Rooker has performed well on the road, while Capel has a decent well-hit rate against hard-throwing right-handed pitchers like Gray. Finally, Kemp provides consistency with his overall performance and is projected to bat towards the middle of the lineup.
Phiadelphia Phillies vs Noah Davis
The Philadelphia Phillies are set to take on the Colorado Rockies today, and Kyle Schwarber is leading the charge, slugging .543 in his last 235 plate appearances against right-handers with high groundball rates, like Rockies’ pitcher Noah Davis. Trea Turner is also a force to be reckoned with, batting .314 in his last 86 at-bats.
J.T. Realmuto is another player to watch, boasting a wOBA of .343 in his last 237 plate appearances against right-handers who rely heavily on the slider, like Davis. However, Nick Castellanos has struggled against right-handers with high strikeout rates over the last 2 seasons, batting just .209 in 230 at-bats. Bryson Stott has a wOBA of just .248 in his last 127 plate appearances against right-handers with high strikeout rates like Davis. But Alec Bohm has been on a hot streak, batting .311 in his last 74 at-bats this season.
Jake Cave has limited matchup data, but it favors him in this game. Edmundo Sosa has struggled against right-handers with high strikeout rates, batting just .235 in his last 114 plate appearances. Garrett Stubbs has had success against right-handers who rely heavily on the slider, with an OPS of 1.004 in 15 at-bats. However, Josh Harrison and Cristian Pache have both struggled against similar pitchers, batting just .214 and .114, respectively.
The Phillies are looking strong in this matchup, and with players like Schwarber and Turner leading the way, they have a great chance to come out on top. Keep an eye on Realmuto and Bohm as well, as they could make a big impact in this game.
Phillies 5 Man Stack
My top choices for the stack are Kyle Schwarber, Trea Turner, J.T. Realmuto, Nick Castellanos, and Bryson Stott. These five players cover a range of positions and tiers, giving your lineup versatility and strength throughout.
Schwarber’s projected order and strong history against right-handed pitchers with high groundball rates make him an excellent choice for power potential. Turner’s recent batting average and placement in the second projected order spot make him a reliable option for consistent scoring. Realmuto’s impressive wOBA against right-handers who rely heavily on the slider make him a valuable addition to the stack. Castellanos and Stott provide a mix of power and potential, rounding out the stack with solid choices in their respective tiers.
Minnesota Twins vs Trevor Williams
The Minnesota Twins are gearing up to take on the Washington Nationals today, and they’re looking to bring their A-game. Byron Buxton is leading the charge, with an impressive .536 slugging percentage in his last 132 plate appearances against right-handers who heavily rely on the slider, just like Nationals pitcher Trevor Williams. Carlos Correa is another player to watch, boasting a .510 slugging percentage in his last 226 plate appearances against soft-throwing right-handed pitchers like Williams.
Although Max Kepler has struggled with a wOBA of just .302 in 37 plate appearances this season, Trevor Larnach has been batting just .163 in his last 43 at-bats. However, Jose Miranda has a well-hit rate of 6.2% in his last five games, making him a potential threat against Williams, who has allowed a slugging percentage of .493 against similar hitters over the past two seasons.
Joey Gallo has struggled against soft-throwing right-handers like Williams, batting just .203 in his last 133 at-bats, but Nick Gordon has been slugging .495 in his last 109 plate appearances against similar pitchers. Michael Taylor and Christian Vazquez have also struggled against right-handers who heavily rely on the slider, so keep an eye on them.
Although matchup data is limited, Willi Castro and Donovan Solano both have potential to struggle against Williams, so they might not be the best picks for today’s game. Ryan Jeffers has also struggled against similar pitchers, batting just .196 in his last 56 at-bats.
Overall, Buxton and Correa are the ones to watch in this matchup, and if Miranda can continue his recent success, he could make a big impact as well. Gordon also has potential to surprise, but the rest of the lineup might struggle against Williams and the Nationals.
Twins 5 Man Stack
My top choices for the stack are Byron Buxton, Carlos Correa, Trevor Larnach, Jose Miranda, and Nick Gordon. These five players cover a range of positions and offer a mix of power and consistency, giving your lineup the potential to dominate.
Buxton’s impressive slugging percentage against right-handers who heavily rely on the slider, like Trevor Williams, make him a strong choice for power potential. Correa’s consistent slugging against soft-throwing right-handers like Williams make him a valuable addition to the stack. Larnach and Miranda both offer potential for scoring with their matchup advantages against Williams, while Gordon’s history of slugging against soft-throwing right-handers makes him a solid pick for the stack.
