MLB Picks and Advice 8-18
TMay gives out a few picks and some early advice regarding today’s main slate for FanDuel and DraftKings.
Cash Plays
SP
Yu Darvish- At $10,500 on DraftKings and $9,900 on FanDuel, Darvish is priced up for a matchup against St. Louis. Darvish has gotten off to a strong start in 2020 posting a K/9 of 10.13 and a FIP of 2.18. I expect Darvish to have a quality start on today’s slate and I’ll be locking him into my cash lineups.
Carlos Carrasco- At $9,900 on DraftKings and $9,800 on FanDuel, Carrasco is priced up for a matchup against a struggling Pittsburgh offense. The Pirates rank dead last in MLB with a wRC+ of 70. There are not many power bats to contend with and Carrasco should cruise through 6 innings in this spot.
Hitters
Philadelphia Phillies- The Phillies have a matchup against Zach Godley with an implied run total of 5.32. Godley has struggled in 2020 posting a FIP of 6.97 and the Phillies have posted a wRC+ of 119. I like the Phillies as a high floor play on today’s slate. Focus on Bryce Harper, Rhys Hoskins, Didi Gregorious, and J.T. Realmuto.
Los Angeles Dodgers- The Dodgers have a matchup against Marco Gonzales with an implied run total of 5.32. Gonzales is not a dominant pitcher posting a K/9 of 6.75 and a FIP of 4.59 in 2020. The Dodgers should have no problems scoring in bunches in this spot. Focus on Mookie Betts, A.J. Pollock, Justin Turner, and Cody Bellinger.
GPP Plays
SP
Blake Snell- At $9,500 on DraftKings and $8,400 on FanDuel, Snell is at a reasonable price against a Yankees offense that is down key hitters. Snell has progressively gone deeper into games every start and he can rack up double-digit strikeouts against any team. I’ll have shares of Snell in tournaments.
Masahiro Tanaka- At $7,900 on DraftKings and $7,800 on FanDuel, Tanaka is at a great price point for a matchup against Tampa Bay. The Rays have struck out in 25.3% of their plate appearances in 2020 and Tanaka has a double-digit strikeout ceiling. Tanaka is my target starting pitcher in the mid-range on today’s slate.

Stacks
Chicago White Sox- The White Sox have a matchup against Tarik Skubal with an implied total of 5.15. Skubal is making his MLB debut and Chicago has power throughout the lineup. There is potential for Chicago to score early and often in this spot. Focus on Tim Anderson, Yoan Moncada, Jose Abreu, and Luis Robert.
Toronto Blue Jays- The Blue Jays have a matchup against Wade LeBlanc with an implied run total of 4.98. LeBlanc posted a below-average K/9 of 5.09 and Toronto should go overlooked on today’s slate. Focus on Teoscar Hernandez, Cavan Biggio, Randal Grichuk, and Vlad Guerrero Jr.
