MLB Picks and Advice 8-22

Cash Plays
SP
Zach Davies- At $8,900 on DraftKings and $8,000 on FanDuel, Davies is at a reasonable price point for a matchup against Houston. Davies has been a high floor play in 2020 scoring at least 18 points on DraftKings and 30 points on FanDuel in 4 out of 5 starts. I’ll have Davies in cash games.
Zac Gallen- At $9,600 on DraftKings and $10,000 on FanDuel, Gallen is priced up for a matchup against San Francisco. Gallen has been the most consistent pitcher on today’s slate and has shown a reasonable strikeout floor posting a K/9 of 10.8. I expect Gallen to face little resistance against the Giants’ offense.
Hitters
Los Angeles Dodgers- The Dodgers have a date with Kyle Freeland with an implied run total of 5.46. If the Dodgers have a high total, I’m in for cash games. The Dodgers have posted a wRC+ of 113 in 2020 and Freeland is not an overpowering pitcher. Focus on Mookie Betts, A.J. Pollock, Justin Turner, and Cody Bellinger.
Milwaukee Brewers- The Brewers have a matchup against Derek Holland with an implied run total of 5.27. Holland has struggles posting a K/9 of 8.84 and a FIP of 6.61. I’m going to lean on the total and get the Brewers’ big bats in cash games. Focus on Christian Yelich, Keston Hiura, Justin Smoak, and Avisail Garcia.

GPP Plays
SP
Justus Sheffield- At $6,500 on DraftKings and $7,500 on FanDuel, Sheffield is priced in the mid-range against Texas. The Rangers offense has posted a wRC+ of 71 and has struck out 23.2% of their plate appearances in 2020. Sheffield has gotten off to a strong start in 2020 posting a K/9 of 8.24 and a FIP of 2.41. I’ll have Sheffield in tournaments.
Matt Boyd- At $8,000 on DraftKings and $7,400 on FanDuel, Boyd is priced in the mid-range for a matchup against Cleveland. Boyd has struggled but, he is priced below what he has proven his talent level is. In 2019, Boyd posted a K/9 of 11.56 and a FIP of 4.32. There is a high ceiling with Boyd and an implied run total of 5.72 should limit his ownership.
Stacks
Seattle Mariners- The Mariners have a matchup against Jordan Lyles with an implied run total of 4.78. The Mariners are rarely popular, and I expect more of the same on today’s slate. They have quality power bats and Lyles has struggled in 2020. Focus on Kyle Lewis, Kyle Seager, Austin Nola, and Evan White.
Atlanta Braves- The Braves have a matchup against Zack Wheeler with an implied run total of 4.44. Wheeler has seen a drop-off in production in 2020 posting a K/9 of 4.21 as opposed to a K/9 of 8.98. I expect Wheeler to be owned a moderate amount and Atlanta can score in bunches. Focus on Freddie Freeman, Travis d’Arnaud, Marcell Ozuna, and Dansby Swanson.
