MLB Top Stacks (Quick Overview)

The Padres are the top ranked stack this evening after our early afternoon Study Hub Update. The matchup is fantastic vs RHP Anibal Sanchez and they’ll be a great late night hammer on this slate where their game starts a full 2 hours and 20 minutes after all other games.

At first glance here, the Pirates look to be a little overowned as we look at this sheet early in the afternoon. Currently they are the 6th ranked stacked but the 3rd highest owned stack

People may be sleeping on the Blue Jays a little, currently ranked 4th but ranked 7th in Ownership. These numbers will surely change as official lineups start to come in later this afternoon, so be sure to be in the Rise or Fall VIP Discord chat so you can get all the important alerts this evening.

Red Sox vs RHP JT Brubaker

Brubaker comes into tonight’s matchup with the Red Sox in a bit of funk. Over the last 30 days he’s allowed a 403 woba, 224 iso and 53% hard contact rate vs left handed hitters. In his defense, he does have a very solid 29.5% k rate in that same time span vs righties.

Against righties, he has been equally bad, allowing a 431 woba, 163 iso and 47% hard contact rate while only striking out 14.9% of lefties in that time span

Rafael Devers is in “top play of the day” category tonight, as he brings a 410 woba, 302 iso and 42% hard contact rate vs right handers into this matchup vs Brubaker. Alex Verdugo is another Red Sox lefty I have interest in, along with Tommy Pham and JD Martinez who both bat from the right side of the plate.

Pirates vs RHP Josh Winckowski

We wrote up the Red Sox side of this game above, and the Pirates have an equally good matchup on the other side. The problem here is, the Pirates really are not that good overall so they may be a bit over owned on tonight’s slate.

That being said, Josh Winckowski has been really bad against lefties and righties over the last 30 days. Against lefties, he has given up a 400 woba, 205 iso while only striking out 4.1% of the 49 left handed batters he has faced in that time span

His numbers against righties are just a little better, but, still not very good. Against righties he has allowed a 385 woba, 313 iso and 42% fly ball rate over the last 30 days

The best hitter in the Pirates lineup is easily Bryan Reynolds. Going back to the start of the 2021 season, Reynolds has a 368 woba, 225 iso and 40% hard contact rate in just over 700 at bats vs right handed pitchers. If we’re stacking Pirates, Reynolds has to be in there.

Ben Gamel and Oneil Cruz are good options as well if their ownership doesn’t get out of control. On a small 5 game slate I fear that may be the case

Keep an eye on Reynolds ownership, along with the rest of the Pirates as we get closer to lock tonight. If Reynolds ownership is not too high I think he’ll be a great one off play tonight, but, we’ll have to see how things look closer to lock. If the Pirates are super chalky, I think it may be a good idea to go under the field despite the premier matchup

Are you ready to dominate?

The MLB Study Hub is my #1 source for research every single day and is one of the VIP Only tools our members have access to daily.

Within the Study Hub you will see today’s MLB Projections for every player along with advanced MLB Statistics like wOBA and ISO vs the Handedness of today’s starting pitcher.

Ownership Projections are included, along with a letter grade ranking system for every player on the slate.

Rays vs RHP Max Castillo

Max Castillo was just acquired from the Blue Jays in the Whitt Merrifield trade. He’s a good prospect who put up good numbers in the minors. He put together a 1.92 era, 0.98 whip, 64 strikeouts in 56.1 innings between Double A and Triple A. He may not be quite “ready for primetime” but he’s got potential for sure

Castillo, in limited MLB action, has allowed a 211 iso to lefties and a 158 iso to righties

Brandon Lowe is one of the best left handed hitters in the Rays lineup. Dating back to the start of the 2021 season, he has a 260 iso and 364 woba vs right handed pitchers. David Peralta is another left handed bat we can target in this lineup (324/178), along with Ji-Man Choi (346/195) (woba/iso)

Padres vs RHP Anibal Sanchez

The top stack of the night is the Padres vs RHP Anibal Sanchez. This season, Sanchez has been awful against right handed hitters, allowing a 483 woba 339 iso 50% hard contact rate and only a 15% k rate. Against lefties, he gives up big power, allowing a 238 iso to batters from the left side of the palte

Juan Soto brings a 435 woba 250 iso into tonight’s matchup vs Sanchez. Ummm, lock and load? Manny Machado is solid with a 366 woba 222 iso. Brandon Drury 337/203, Josh Bell 352/191, Jake Croneworth 336/186 shall I continue?

Play them all, they’re gonna rock Sanchez tonight. The game starts 2 full hours after every other game, so, while everyone else thinks they’re in the clear, you’ll be hawking them down late with your Padre stacks tonight

Batter Rankings Today

These rankings are not site-specific and are intended to give you a solid pool of players to build your lineups from. I’ll be using the standard positions, Catcher through Outfield in these rankings so be aware of that if you’re constructing teams on Draftkings where some players can play multiple positions.

Something I like to do with this, is to give these players a THUMBS UP or 2, or 3, in Fantasy Cruncher so I can get more exposure to them throughout my lineups
