Huge 13 game slate tonight with several teams in absolute SMASH spots. Above you can see the Red Sox currently rank as the top stack, but, there are a ton of other options we can target as well. It should be a fun one, let’s dig in.
Red Sox vs Rangers LHP Dallas Keuchel
Dallas Keuchel was great once, but, those days are long gone as he’s struggled mightily the past few years. Since the start of the 2021 season he has a 5.08 xfip and just a 13.2% strikeout rate. Against right handed hitters he has allowed a 369 woba 210 iso 44% hard contact rate and has only managed a 12.8% strikeout rate since 2021. Against left handed hitters, he has allowed a 370 woba 134 iso (not too bad) 38% hard contact rate and just a 14.9% strikeout rate. He won’t be missing many bats in this Red Sox lineup and that does not bode well for him tonight.
Trevor Story has been a notorious “lefty masher” and dating back to the start of the 2021 season his numbers reflect just that. He has a 382 woba 298 iso and 40% hard contact rate against lefties in that time span
JD Martinez isn’t exactly the hitter he once was, but, he’s still very good and does serious damage against left handed pitching. Since 2021 Martinez has a 452 xwoba 189 iso and 47% hard contact rate vs lefties
Don’t forget about Rafael Devers, even though he bats left handed, he has done well against left handed pitchers since 2021. He has a 394 xwoba 151 iso and 37% hard contact rate vs lefties since 2021
Cardinals vs Cubs RHP Adrian Sampson
Since the start of the 2021 season Adrian Sampson has a 4.90 xfip and 18.9% strikeout rate. Against right handed hitters he’s been awful, allowing a 349 woba 222 iso 39% fly ball rate and 43% hard contact rate since 2021
Paul Goldschmidt jumps off the page in this matchup. He has a 433 xwoba 211 iso and 44% hard contact rate agianst right handed pitching since the start of the 2021 season.
Nolan Arenado has put up equally stellar numbers against right handers. He has a 353 woba 226 iso and 40% hard contact rate against righties since the start of the 2021 season
Tyler O’Neil (339/229/45%) and Lars Nootbar (353/232/40%) are my other top targets in this Cardinals lineup tonight.
Are you ready to dominate?
The MLB Study Hub is my #1 source for research every single day and is one of the VIP Only tools our members have access to daily.
Within the Study Hub you will see today’s MLB Projections for every player along with advanced MLB Statistics like wOBA and ISO vs the Handedness of today’s starting pitcher.
Ownership Projections are included, along with a letter grade ranking system for every player on the slate.
Nationals right hander Josiah Gray has a decent strikeout rate of 25.6% since the start of the 2021 season, however, his 5.32 xfip leads me to believe there are some underlying issues here. Against left handed hitters he has allowed a 378 woba 317 iso 54% fly ball rate and 40% hard contact rate since the start of the 2021 season. Against righties, he allows a 221 iso and a 47% fly ball rate, so we should be able to target hitters from both sides of the plate against him tonight
Daniel Vogelbach has a 428 xwoba 235 iso and 45% hard contact rate against right handed pitching since the start of the 2021 season. With Josiah Gray allowing a 317 iso to lefties, I’m thinking Vogelbach goes deep in this matchup tonight.
Pete Alonso can take anyone deep, and since the start of the 2021 season he has a 412 xwoba 239 iso and 40% hard contact rate vs right handed pitching. Gray allows a 221 iso to right handers, so, look for the Panda to get ahold of one tonight.
Tigers right hander Drew Hutchison enters tonight’s game with a 5.79 xfip and just a 13.8% strikeout rate dating back to the start of the 2021 season. Against left handed hitters he’s been truly awful, allowing a 345 woba 186 iso 42% fly ball rate and 38% hard contact rate
MJ Melendez will leadoff against Hutchison, and this season he has a 457 xwoba 172 iso and 41% hard contact rate against right handed pitching this season.
Bobby Whitt has a 412 xwoba 182 iso and 39% hard contact rate against righties this year. Nick Pratto is a left handed hitter with big time power. This year he has a 499 xwoba 264 iso and 42% hard contact rate against right handed pitching
Salvador Perez is one of the best hitting catchers in the game and he is in a great spot here. This year Perez has a 409 xwoba 212 iso and 43% hard contact rate against right handed pitching
Twins vs White Sox Davis Martin
Davis Martin has not pitched much this season, only facing 81 left handed and 85 right handed hitters. In the limited time he has pitched however, he has not been good, entering tonight’s game with a 5.44 xfip and just a 16.9% strikeout rate
Gary Sanchez has big time power vs righties and he has a 431 xwoba 198 iso and 42% hard contact rate against righties this season.
Nick Gordon has been on fire recently. He has a 639 xwoba 255 iso and 48% hard contact rate vs right handed pitching over the last 30 days
Carlos Correa isn’t having a great year to his standars, but, he has a 436 xwoba 178 iso and 46% hard contact rate vs righties since the start of the 2021 season.
Max Kepler has a 379 xwoba 184 iso and 39% hard contact rate vs righties since 2021
Rankings Today
These rankings are not site-specific and are intended to give you a solid pool of players to build your lineups from. I’ll be using the standard positions, Catcher through Outfield in these rankings so be aware of that if you’re constructing teams where some players can play multiple positions
Something I like to do with this list, is to give these players a THUMBS UP or 2, or 3, in Fantasy Cruncher so I can get more exposure to them throughout my lineups
