MLB Top Stacks (Quick Overview)

Happy Tuesday everyone, today we have a big 13 game slate to attack. We have a Coors Field game today and the Brewers rank as the #1 stack on the slate vs RHP Chad Kuhl. I’ll do my best to highlight some other less obvious stacks below, but, just understand, these Brewers are in a SMASH spot here today.

Cubs vs Reds RHP Justin Dunn

Red right handed pitcher Justin Dunn has had a rough 2022 season. Entering tonight’s matchup with the Cubs he has a 5.87 xfip and a 19.2% strikeout rate. Against left handed hitters he’s really struggled this year, allowing a 409 woba 289 iso 49% fly ball rate and 54% hard contact rate. Against righties he has been equally bad this year, allowing a 330 woba 341 iso 45% fly ball rate and 42% hard contact rate.

We can safely target Cubs hitters from both sides of the plate in this matchup, but, below are a few that I’ll be keying on today

Seiya Suzuki – 367 xwoba 146 iso 38% hard contact
Christopher Morel – 509 xwoba 210 iso 39% hard contact
Franmil Reyes – 446 xwoba 168 iso 47% hard contact rate

My top target in the Cubs order will be Ian Happ. He is a switch hitter, so today, he’ll bat left handed vs the right handed Justin Dunn. This season Happ has a 415 xwoba 188 iso and 40% hard contact rate against right handed pitching. We don’t normally target the Cubbies, but, they are in a fantastic spot tonight.

Gaurdians vs Royals LHP Kris Bubic

The Gaurdians are not normally a team we target with stacks. That being said, they have a juicy matchup today vs left hander Kris Bubic. This season Bubic has a 5.20 xfip and a 17.5% strikeout rate. Against left handers he has allowed a 449 woba 276 iso and 53% hard contact rate while only managing a 11.4% strikeout rate. Against right handed hitters, he’s slightly better, only allowing a 330 woba 148 iso and 40% hard contact rate

Steven Kwan will bat left handed vs the left handed Bubic, and while he’s not known for his power, he is known for making contact almost always. This season he has an 87.7% contact rate vs left handed pitching. I’m expecting him to get on base a few times here vs Bubic, and hopefully the guys behind him to can drive him home

Ahmed Rosario has hit lefties well all season, and entering tonight’s matchup he has a 368 xwoba 195 iso and 39% hard contact rate vs southpaws.

Jose Ramirez is easily the best hitter in this lineup, so, if we’re stacking Gaurdians we need to include him. Since the start of the 2021 season he has a 382 xwoba 221 iso and 43% hard contact rate against left handed pitching

Oscar Gonzalez has been on fire in the past 30 days vs left handed pitchers. In that time frame he has a 519 xwoba 200 iso and 50% hard contact rate

Similar to Gonzalez, Andres Gimenez has been on fire against lefties recently as well. In the last 30 days he has a 662 xwoba 222 iso and 35% hard contact rate against left handed pitching

Angels vs Tigers LHP Eduardo Rodriguez

We were all over the Angles bats last night and they came through in a big way roughing up the Tigers 10-0. Tonight I’m going right back to the well here as the Tigers are throwing another crappy left hander at them. Eduardo Rodriquez has been terrible this year, and he enters tonight’s game with a 5.46 xfip and 19.5% strikeout rate. Since the start of the 2021 season he’s been really bad against left handed hitters, allowing a 342 woba 210 iso and 41% hard contact rate.

Angels hitters vs left handed pitching since 2021

Mike Trout – 473 xwoba 217 iso 42% hard contact
Shohei Ohtani – 524 xwoba 291 iso 47% hard contact
Luis Rengio – 385 xwoba 192 iso 37% hard contact
Taylor Ward – 406 xwoba 137 iso 44% hard contact

These guys came through for us in a big way last night and I’m banking on more of the same in today’s matchup vs a weak left hander

Cardinals vs Nationals RHP Paolo Espino

Paolo Espino enters tonight’s contest with a 4.82 xfip and 18.6% strikeout rate. Against right handed hitters he has allowed a 334 woba 227 iso 42% fly ball rate and 45% hard contact rate this season

Paul Goldschmidt is the front runner for MVP this season, and he’s been crushing the ball all year. This year against right handed pitching he has a 390 woba 241 iso and 30% hard contact rate

Nolan Arenado has a 383 woba 225 iso and 41% hard contact rate vs right handed pitching this season

Other Cardinals I like tonight vs this weak right hander

Lars Nootbar – 350 / 249 / 43%
Tyler O’neil – 402 xwoba 156 iso 38% hard contact

Rankings Today

These rankings are not site-specific and are intended to give you a solid pool of players to build your lineups from. I’ll be using the standard positions, Catcher through Outfield in these rankings so be aware of that if you’re constructing teams on Draftkings where some players can play multiple positions

Something I like to do with this, is to give these players a THUMBS UP or 2, or 3, in Fantasy Cruncher so I can get more exposure to them throughout my lineups
