MLB Top Stacks Early (Quick Overview)

I know everyone is fired up for the start of the NFL Season tomorrow, but, there is still money to be made in MLB. Today we have two 6 game slates to attack, starting with the Early Slate at 3:05pm eastern. Currently the Dodgers rank as our #1 stack on this early slate in their matchup vs Giants right hander Alex Cobb. We’ll have to see what the official lineups look like closer to lock before we make any final decisions. Below I’ll highlight a few teams and players that stand out to me on this early 6 game slate

Rockies vs Brewers in Coors Field

Whenever we have a Coors Field game on the slate we have to strongly consider our strategy for that game before we move onto other spots. Today we have two sup par pitchers in Coors and with 92 degree temperatures this game could get wild

Rockies left hander Kyle Freeland enters this game with a 5.31 xfip and a 16% strikeout rate. He has been really bad this year vs left handed hitters, allowing a 391 woba 250 iso 41% fly ball rate and 45% hard contact rate. Against right handed hitters, he has been a little better but still not great, allowing a 330 woba 164 iso and 45% hard contact rate.

Brewers bats I’ll be targeting vs Freeland

Willy Adames – 416 xwoba 198 iso 43% hard contact
Andrew McCutchen 214 iso 52% hard contact
Hunter Renfroe – 430 xwoba 219 iso 43% hard contact

In Coors we can pretty much target anyone but these will be my 3 priorities in the Brewers lineup.

On the other side of the game, the Brewers will throw left handed Eric Lauer at this Rockies lineup today. This season Lauer has a 4.87 xfip and 22.7% strikeout rate. Against right handed hitters he has allowed a 200 iso 46% fly ball rate and 42% hard contact rate this season

Rockies bats I want to target here vs Lauer

Randal Grichuk – 397 xwoba 264 iso 49% hard contact
Brendan Rodgers – 416 xwoba 173 iso 49% hard contact
C.J. Cron 518 xwoba 218 iso 38% hard contact
Elehuris Montero – 229 iso 36% hard contact

As with the Brewers, we can target anyone we want really in Coors Field, but these 4 will be my top targets on the Rockies

Angels vs Tigers RHP Drew Hutchison

I’m going to keep targeting the Angels if the Tigers keep throwing shitty pitchers at them. Today, the Angels get another juicy matchup vs right hander Drew Hutchison. This season Hutchison has a 5.63 xfip and 15% strikeout rate. Against left handers he has really struggled allowing a 353 woba 181 iso 45% fly ball rate and only managing a 17.6% strikeout rate

Shohei Ohtani just off the page today vs this weak right handers. This season Ohtani has 551 xwoba 294 iso and 44% hard contact rate against right handed pitching.

No surprise, but, Mike Trout jumps off the page here as well vs Hutchison. This year Trout has a 449 xwoba 338 iso and 41% hard contact rate against right handed pitching.

Taylor Ward rounds out my favorite Angels bats here, and this year he has a 489 xwoba 191 iso and 43% hard contact rate against right handed pitchers.

Mariners vs White Sox RHP Michael Kopech

Right hander Michael Kopech enters today’s game with a 5.61 xfip and 21.6% strikeout rate. Against left handers is where we can target him today, as, he has allowed a 166 iso 55% fly ball rate and 41% hard contact rate this season to left handed hitters

Dating back to the start of the 2021 season Jesse Winker has 432 xwoba 210 iso and 41% hard contact rate against right handed pitching. He’s the top left handed hitter I want exposure to today vs Michael Kopech who struggles vs left handed batters

Other Mariners I want in this matchup, despite not being left handed hitters.

Julio Rodriguez – 438 xwoba 207 iso 42% hard contact
Mitch Haniger – 457 xwoba 211 iso

Rankings Today

These rankings are not site-specific and are intended to give you a solid pool of players to build your lineups from. I’ll be using the standard positions, Catcher through Outfield in these rankings so be aware of that if you’re constructing teams on Draftkings where some players can play multiple positions

Something I like to do with this, is to give these players a THUMBS UP or 2, or 3, in Fantasy Cruncher so I can get more exposure to them throughout my lineups
