Welcome to the NBA DFS Risers Playbook for DraftKings and Fanduel! Every morning we will highlight standout Vegas total, pace up spots, notable injury news, and how I would attack the slate given the information we have in the morning. We have a 10 game slate so grab a cup of coffee and let’s get into it!
Atlanta Hawks @ Brooklyn Nets O/U 245.5- These teams played absolutely zero defense on Wednesday night and I expect more of the same in this one. This is by far the highest total on the slate so I’m expecting this game to be popular. It’ll be hard to get to both Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant on both sites. The one I favor will depend on the value that opens up throughout the day. Caris LeVert continues to be underpriced on FanDuel and is definitely in play.
Trae Young is a game-time decision but, I am expecting him to play. He is priced up on both sites which may lead me to other options on a large slate like today. John Collins is in play in the mid-range and could be a cornerstone of my cash lineups. Bogdan Bogdanovic and Cam Reddish are in play for GPPs and have been producing well lately.
Portland Trail Blazers @ Golden State Warriors O/U 231
It looks like Draymond Green will make his season debut in this one. I would expect him to be limited to 20 minutes unless we see a report that indicates otherwise. Steph Curry is in play as always but, we’re still waiting for him to find his shot from deep as he is just 14 for 44 from long range. Rostering Kelly Oubre and Andrew Wiggins will continue to be a volatile play. If you roster them, know that there is a 50% chance they score under 10 points. James Wiseman has gotten into foul trouble the past 2 games but, he is a great play assuming he stays more conservative on defense.
Portland will be running out the usual rotation but, Gary Trent is a game-time decision. Damian Lillard and C.J. McCollum are in play as they both have very high ceilings. I prefer McCollum due to Lillard’s struggles to begin the season and the difference in salary. On this large of a slate, I’m not interested in gambling on Enes Kanter or Jusuf Nurkic. There is too much opportunity cost there and I will attack other spots. Carmello Anthony looks to be an interesting value play in my early look.
Portland Trail Blazers- There is a definite correlation between the high game total and the pace of Golden State. I expect this game to be high scoring and either Damian Lillard or C.J. McCollum to get hot.
Milwaukee Bucks- The Bucks take on the Bulls in a game that should favor the Bucks by a large margin. We could get the Bucks at an ownership discount as the public could fear a blowout in this spot. Giannis Antetokounmpo, Jrue Holiday, and Kris Middleton are my top targets from Milwaukee.
Minnesota Timberwolves- The Timberwolves take on the Wizards without Russell Westbrook in this one. I don’t see myself getting too much of Minnesota because there aren’t any standout options for me. D’Angelo Russell and Naz Reid are fine plays but, not plays I expect to have at volume on this slate.
Russell Westbrook- Westbrook is expected to take a load management day on the second leg of the back to back. Obviously, this gives Bradley Beal a usage bump and a rebounding bump for the likes of Thomas Bryant and Rui Hachimura.
Trae Young- Young is a game-time decision with a calf injury. I expect him to play but, we need to be prepared for the scenario in which he does not play. If Young is out, this gives a huge bump to Bogdan Bogdanovic, John Collins, and Cam Reddish for me. There is a lot of usage and shot attempts to go around if Young misses this game.
Jimmy Butler- Butler is probable with an ankle injury, If he is out, expect the same bumps in usage for Tyler Herro. Herro would become a core play once again if Butler is out.
Jamal Murray- Murray is expected to play but if he is out, I become much more interested in Michael Porter Jr., Nikola Jokic, and Monte Morris.
Giannis Antetokounmpo- Giannis gets a dream matchup against a weak Bulls frontcourt. He is currently a cash game lock for me and looks to be someone I will be targeting heavily in GPPs. I don’t factor blowouts into my decision making so I am not scared of that. Giannis can put up a ceiling game in three quarters.
Bradley Beal- Beal without Westbrook is something I’ll always be interested in. Beal gets a bump in usage, assists, and potentially rebounding. Beal will be the focal point of the offense and I expect him to attempt around 25 field goals.
C.J. McCollum- McCollum has been on a tear recently picking up Lillard’s slack. The matchup against Golden State offers a high game total and McCollum has been making it rain from long distance. I’m expecting a big game out of McCollum.
Thaddeus Young- Young looks to be the guy in the Bulls frontcourt with Lauri Markananen out with covid-19. He is cheap on both sites and is my early look value of the day.
