Welcome to the Team Rise or Fall NBA DFS Risers Playbook for DraftKings and Fanduel.. Check out this spot every day for our first look at standout Vegas totals, pace up spots, and notable injury news. At the end I’ll address how I would handle this slate with the info we have available. This is a preview and plenty of decisions are subject to change depending on how the day’s news plays out.
San Antonio Spurs @ Minnesota Timberwolves O/U 233
These two teams played yesterday with Demar Derozan having a really nice outing for his managers last night, even if it took overtime to get there. This is a game that I’ll be monitoring the news for because Gregg Popovich is liable to start anyone in the second game of a back to back after going to overtime.
It’s possible we see Jacob Poetl get more time (16 minutes last night) while Lamarcus Aldridge (33 minutes last night) plays fewer minutes, if at all. Yesterday I assumed that with KAT back Juan Hernangomez would be in the big man rotation ahead of Naz Reid. Hernangomez played 23 minutes compared to Reid’s 16 minutes, but was outscored by nearly 20 fantasy points. That’s something to keep in mind for tonight’s rematch.
Toronto Raptors @ Golden State Warriors O/U 235
Remember all of the Steph Curry slander online? He’s scored less than 45 Draftkings points two times this season. And his 28 DK point performance four days ago is sandwiched between 54.75 and 68 point games. I think he’s ok. Add to that he’s the only playable Warrior when I’m judging by who can hit or exceed value for me. You can take a flyer on a guy if you can justify it to yourself but I’ll be looking elsewhere.
Kyle Lowry carries the probable tag tonight so he’s in play along with Pascal Siakam and Fred VanVleet. If Chris Boucher plays more than 25 minutes he could go off so let’s throw him in the mix as well.
The Warriors are second in the NBA in pace at 107.9, and the Raptors come in at ninth with a 104.3 rating. There should be a lot of action in this game as reflected by the highest implied game total on the slate.
I mentioned the players I like in the previous section and I didn’t make a case for any Warriors outside of Curry. Andrew Wiggins is listed as questionable for tonight’s game. I’m going to be late on the Draymond Green train because I’m not playing him until he strings together solid fantasy games. Kelly Oubre Jr.? Meh. James Wiseman? Sometimes but not tonight for me because his minutes are way down. The scoring, rebounds, assist, and all of the other stats have to come from somewhere, but I just don’t know where.
Oklahoma City Thunder
The Thunder come into tonight’s games tied with two other teams for 19th in NBA pace at 102.3. Their opponent the Brooklyn Nets are fourth in the league at 106.4. Kevin Durant is most likely playing while it’s unclear whether Kyrie Irving will suit up or not. KD being back is a hit to Caris Levert, but I still like Jarrett Allen no matter who plays for Brooklyn.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is a great play in a pace up spot. Darius Bazley looks good to me tonight as well.
Probable: Kevin Durant, Kevin Knox, and Kyle Lowry.
Questionable: Kyrie Irving, Anthony Davis, LeBron James, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Ben McLemore, Semi Ojeleye, Jaylen Brown, Josh Okogie, Kevin Looney, and Andrew Wiggins.
Out: Tyler Johnson, Michael Porter Jr., Frank Ntilikina, Alec Burks, Taj Gibson, Obi Toppin, Danuel House, Kemba Walker, Tristan Thompson, Grant Williams, Robert Williams, and Patrick McCraw.
Kyle Lowry – I like guys that handle the ball a lot in games with high implied totals. Lowry fits that criteria for me. He’s listed as probable so I feel good rostering him at this point in the day.
Keldon Johnson – Johnson is averaging 30 DK points and 29 FD points over his last six games. Tonight he and the Timberwolves are in a game with a 233 implied game total. I’m thinking he surpasses his recent averages.
Anthony Davis – I’ll be watching the news to make sure Davis is a go tonight. If he’s playing I like AD to have a big night as one of the higher priced plays on the slate. He’ll be rested since he didn’t play the last game, and I think that means trouble for the Houston Rockets tonight.
