NBA DFS Risers Playbook for Draftkings and FanDuel 12-23
Welcome to the NBA DFS Risers Playbook for DraftKings and Fanduel! Every morning we will highlight standout Vegas total, pace up spots, notable injury news, and how I would attack the slate given the information we have in the morning. We have a juicy 13 game slate so grab a cup of coffee and let’s get into it!
Notable Vegas Totals
Dallas Mavericks @ Phoenix Suns O/U 236
Kicking it off with the highest total on the slate. Luka and the Mavs are taking on the new-look Suns. No Kristaps Porzingis in this one so expect Luka’s usage to be through the roof. According to the NBA Study Hub, the main beneficiary of Porzingis being out will be Maxi Kleber but, he is a game-time decision so we will have to watch the news for him headed up to lock.
Chris Paul is a game-time decision with right ankle soreness but, I would expect him to play in the season opener. Devin Booker is in the 8k rand while Paul and Deandre Ayton are in the 7k range on both sites. Really good salary points for the game with the highest total.
San Antonio Spurs @ Memphis Grizzlies O/U 231
There are a lot of points to be scored in this one and the most expensive player is Ja Morant at $8,400 on DraftKings and $7,800 on FanDuel. Jaren Jackson Jr. will be out to start the season so the NBA Study Hub Depth Charts has Brandon Clarke as the next man up. Clarke averaged over a fantasy point per minute last season.
For San Antonio, DeMar DeRozan and LaMarcus Aldridge stand out to me. They are just too cheap for guys that are going to be the focal point of an offense that Vegas has scoring 114 points. It is worth noting that Derrick White will miss this one. I’d expect Pop to lean on Patty Mills in his absence.
Atlanta Hawks @ Chicago Bulls O/U 231
Trae Young is priced up in the 9k range for this one. I’d expect him to dominate the usage for Atlanta. Bogdan Bogdanovic in the 5k range feels like he is way too cheap on both sites. John Collins stands out as a target in the 7k range as well.
Zach Lavine and Coby White will get the bulk of my exposure from the Chicago side. They’re going to dominate the usage for Chicago and should both get a shot volume of 15. This might be my favorite game of the day.
Pace Up Spots
Oklahoma City Thunder- The Thunder take on a Rockets team that was top 5 in pace a season ago. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Al Horford, and Darius Bazley stand out as my early targets. Alexander should dominate the usage in the backcourt and will have to control this game to contend with James Harden on the other end of the floor.
Toronto Raptors- The Raptors have a date with a Pelicans team that was top 3 in pace a season ago. My early targets are Fred VanVleet, Pascal Siakam, and Aron Baynes. Siakam and VanVleet should put up a large volume of the team’s shots and we saw that Baynes has upside when he gets 25-30 minutes.
Boston Celtics- The Celtics are facing a Bucs team that led the NBA in pace last season. Jason Tatum, Marcus Smart, and Jaylen Brown stand out to me. Kemba Walker is going to miss this game and Boston is going to have to score with Milwaukee to keep this one close. I wouldn’t be surprised if we see Smart take 20 shots in this game.
Kemba Walker– Walker is out of this game. I would expect Marcus Smart and Jeff Teague to be the main beneficiaries of his absence, The NBA Study Hub Depth Chart has Teague as Walker’s backup to start the season.
Kristaps Porzingis– Kristaps is out for the start of the season. Barring a setback, we should be able to roster a cheap Maxi Kleber in the game with the highest total on the slate. We’ve seen Kleber smash value when given the opportunity last season.
Kevin Love– Cleveland is preparing as if Love is going to miss this game. The NBA Study Hub has Larry Nance Jr. as Love’s direct backup and we could possibly see 25-30 minutes from Nance in this spot.
Rui Hachimura– Hachimura is going to miss the start of the season due to an eye injury. The NBA Study Hub has Davis Bertans as the main beneficiary of his absence. I would expect Troy Brown Jr. to get some power forward minutes and increased minutes for Deni Adviji.
Clint Capela– Capela is doubtful with an Achilles injury for this game. In my opinion, the most likely scenario is John Collins moves to center and Danillo Gallinari gets the start at power forward. I would expect to see some minutes from Bruno Fernando but, not enough to make him appealing.
Trae Young- I anticipate that Young will dominate the usage for the Hawks’ offense and put up a high volume of shots. Really hard not to like him in a game with a high total. He is more of a GPP play than a cash play for me. There are safer options for cash.
James Harden- Speaking of safe cash options, Harden is back and should be the focal point of the Rockets’ offense as he usually is. There is nobody on OKC that will stop Harden and there is value to get the salary to pay up for him.
John Collins- Collins should get the bulk of the center minutes against a Bulls team that is starting Wendell Carter Jr. at center. This is a favorable matchup for Collins and I expect a double-double tonight. Slot him in for cash and GPPs.
Mason Plumlee- Plumlee is more of a DraftKings play than a FanDuel play. As long as he starts, $3,700 is a great price point for Plumlee and he has shown that he has double-double upside when he gets extended minutes.
These are my EARLY targets. If you want targets from our NBA coaches closer to lock, check out NBA Building Blocks!
