Good Saturday and welcome to the NBA DFS Risers Playbook for DraftKings and Fanduel for December 26th. Check out this spot every morning for our first look at standout Vegas totals, pace up spots, notable injury news. At the end I’ll address how I would handle this slate with the info we have available.
Orlando Magic @ Washington Wizards O/U 231.5
The Orlando Magic travel to Washington to take on the Wizards in a game with the highest implied total on the slate. The Wizards are coming off a loss to Philadelphia, but are favored by two over the Magic who beat the Miami Heat on Wednesday.
Russell Westbrook notched a triple double in his first game for the Wizards and I’m looking for him to stuff the stat sheet again today if he plays. Westbrook is currently listed as a game time decision as is Davis Bertans. Bradley Beal is solid play from this game and even more so if Russell doesn’t take the court.
On the other side of the ball Nikola Vucevic, Aaron Gordon, and Markell Fultz all draw interest from me as the main options for Orlando.
Minnesota Timberwolves @ Utah Jazz O/U 228
The Utah Jazz host the Minnesota Timberwolves in a game with the second highest implied total on the slate. The standout plays for the visitors are Karl-Anthony Towns and D’Angelo Russell. There’s an argument to be made for Josh Okogie if you’re looking for value from this game since he carries a 4.3k tag on DK and 3.7k on FD.
The Jazz have four players that interest me in Donovan Mitchell, Rudy Gobert, Mike Conley, and Bojan Bogdanovic. I’ve listed seven players I like from this game but I’d only roster three at most. If you think the game plays closer than the nine point spread then I’d go with two from Minnesota. If you like a Utah blowout then I’d prefer two players from Utah.
Orlando Magic – The Magic take on the Washington Wizards, a team that likes to run and play minimal defense. I touched on the players I like already but to reiterate I want Orlando’s high usage players. Nikola Vucevic is a stronger play on FanDuel where his tag is 8.2k versus 9.1k on Draftkings. Markell Fultz who costs 5.9k on FD but 6k on Draftkings is priced fairly on both sites and definitely in play for me.
Utah Jazz – The Jazz draw the Minnesota Timberwolves in a similar situation to the Orlando Magic. The Timberwolves like to run and gun without paying much attention to the defensive side of the court. This puts Donovan Mitchell in a great spot and we should see Rudy Gobert achieve the double-double bonus on DraftKings. Spida Mitchell is a pricey 8.4k on DK but a very attractive 7.7k on FD. Gobert will run you 7.4k on DK and 7.8k on FD.
Charlotte Hornets – The Hornets host the Oklahoma City Thunder in a game with a 217.5 implied total. It’s the third lowest total on the slate, but the pace could lead to the over being easily met. Charlotte looks like they’re focusing on getting up and down the court, and this new look Thunder roster should offer little resistance. I like Gordon Hayward and Terry Rozier on both sites.
Houston Rockets– Due to Covid-19 protocols the Rockets will be without John Wall, Eric Gordon, DeMarcus Cousins, and Ben McLemore. This puts James Harden and Christian Wood in great spots with Danuel House and P.J. Tucker serving as value plays.
James Harden– Harden is taking a break from his extracurricular activities to participate in today’s basketball game. The Rockets will be without four players tonight leaving the majority of the scoring on Harden’s shoulders. James is 10.9k on Draftkings and 11k on FanDuel so he’s expensive as heck but he’s going to be launching like crazy. Or like usual in Harden’s case.
Devin Booker– I like Booker for my FanDuel lineups. He costs 7.9k on FD as opposed to 9.8k on Draftkings. Being able to price shop is a benefit of playing on more than one site. A nearly 10k Booker is unplayable on DraftKings in my opinion but at 7.9k on FanDuel he’s almost a lock.
Christian Wood– I’m headed back to the Houston roster for this play. Wood is 5.9k on Draftkings so you can expect him to be highly owned. He’s a more fairly priced 6.7k on FD but I’d still expect him to carry decent ownership. With Houston’s depleted roster I’m looking for Christian to get a lot of run and to put up decent numbers.
These are my EARLY targets. If you want targets from our NBA coaches closer to lock, check out NBA Building Blocks!
