Guards
De’Aaron Fox is a top option at the guard position on tonight’s slate, with prices of $8,900 on FanDuel and $8,700 on DraftKings. The slate is a bit light on elite guard options, especially with Ja Morant questionable, so a more balanced build at the position is a good strategy. Fox has been playing well lately, averaging 27.7 points and 6.9 rebounds over his last 12 games for nearly 45 fantasy points per game. He has consistent volume and usage, with 20 or more shots in three straight games and five of his last six. In a favorable matchup against the Orlando Magic, Fox is a strong play in all formats.
Fox has also been in great form recently, scoring a season-high 37 points in a win over the Utah Jazz on Tuesday, including the game-winning layup at the buzzer. He has hit the 37-point mark three times this season and should continue to be a reliable fantasy option at the point guard position. Fox is a strong candidate for his first All-Star berth, as he is averaging over 41 DraftKings points per game and would have an even higher average if it weren’t for a few injuries and ejections. In a matchup against the Magic, who rank 22nd in defensive efficiency against opposing guards, Fox is an outstanding option. He put up 49 DraftKings points in his one matchup against Orlando earlier this season, so don’t hesitate to roster him in your lineups tonight.
Russell Westbrook is a solid option at the guard position on tonight’s slate, with prices of $7,700 on DraftKings and $8,500 on FanDuel. Westbrook has been playing well lately, topping 50 DraftKings points in back-to-back games and averaging 15.1 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 8.6 assists over his last 10 outings. He also recorded 53.3 DraftKings points in the previous matchup with the Denver Nuggets and should be in line for another strong performance against a team that gives up the league’s third-most points per game to point guards.
The Lakers have won their last five games and are fighting for a spot in the Play-in Tournament. Westbrook has been a key contributor in filling the stat sheet in Anthony Davis‘ absence and his contributions are even more important now that Austin Reaves and Lonnie Walker IV are likely out until the end of January. In his last three games, Westbrook has averaged 33.4 minutes, 15.3 field goal attempts, and a 47.8% shooting percentage. This has translated to 20.7 points, 8.0 rebounds, 11.0 assists, and 2.4 combined blocks and steals per game. Although Westbrook doesn’t always play the entire game, the Lakers’ injuries leave them with few alternatives. Consider Westbrook in your lineups tonight.
Tyus Jones is a player to consider on tonight’s slate, with prices of $5,200 on FanDuel and $4,900 on DraftKings. The status of Ja Morant and Demond Bane will need to be monitored leading up to lock, as both players are questionable due to injury. If one of them is unable to play, Jones could be in line for another start and a good opportunity against the San Antonio Spurs, who rank dead last in defensive efficiency. In his last start, Jones played 34 minutes, took 15 shots, and was efficient, making 7 of them for 21 points while adding six assists and four steals for a 40+ fantasy point night.
Jones has been a strong performer when starting in place of Morant this season, averaging 41.8 DraftKings points per game in six games. Keep an eye on the Grizzlies’ starting lineup, as this matchup against the Spurs at home is a favorable one. The betting total is high at 238 and the Grizzlies are currently 11.5-point favorites, which suggests that Morant may be available to play. If he is, Jones could still be a solid value play, especially on DraftKings. Consider Jones in your lineups tonight.
