The Wizards are 10-7 at home as they take on the Pelicans, while the Celtics are a formidable 15-5 at home as they host the Bulls. The Knicks are on a four-game win streak as they face off against the Bucks, and the Grizzlies are on a six-game win streak as they host the Spurs. The Lakers, who are on a five-game win streak, will face off against the Nuggets in Denver, and the Magic, who are 5-13 on the road, will travel to Sacramento to take on the Kings. There are plenty of options to choose from, so let’s dive in and see who stands out as the top players for tonight’s NBA DFS contests.
NBA DFS Top Plays for Draftkings and Fanduel Monday 1/9/23
De’Aaron Fox is a top option at the guard position on tonight’s slate, with prices of $8,900 on FanDuel and $8,700 on DraftKings. The slate is a bit light on elite guard options, especially with Ja Morant questionable, so a more balanced build at the position is a good strategy. Fox has been playing well lately, averaging 27.7 points and 6.9 rebounds over his last 12 games for nearly 45 fantasy points per game. He has consistent volume and usage, with 20 or more shots in three straight games and five of his last six. In a favorable matchup against the Orlando Magic, Fox is a strong play in all formats.
Fox has also been in great form recently, scoring a season-high 37 points in a win over the Utah Jazz on Tuesday, including the game-winning layup at the buzzer. He has hit the 37-point mark three times this season and should continue to be a reliable fantasy option at the point guard position. Fox is a strong candidate for his first All-Star berth, as he is averaging over 41 DraftKings points per game and would have an even higher average if it weren’t for a few injuries and ejections. In a matchup against the Magic, who rank 22nd in defensive efficiency against opposing guards, Fox is an outstanding option. He put up 49 DraftKings points in his one matchup against Orlando earlier this season, so don’t hesitate to roster him in your lineups tonight.
Russell Westbrook is a solid option at the guard position on tonight’s slate, with prices of $7,700 on DraftKings and $8,500 on FanDuel. Westbrook has been playing well lately, topping 50 DraftKings points in back-to-back games and averaging 15.1 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 8.6 assists over his last 10 outings. He also recorded 53.3 DraftKings points in the previous matchup with the Denver Nuggets and should be in line for another strong performance against a team that gives up the league’s third-most points per game to point guards.
The Lakers have won their last five games and are fighting for a spot in the Play-in Tournament. Westbrook has been a key contributor in filling the stat sheet in Anthony Davis‘ absence and his contributions are even more important now that Austin Reaves and Lonnie Walker IV are likely out until the end of January. In his last three games, Westbrook has averaged 33.4 minutes, 15.3 field goal attempts, and a 47.8% shooting percentage. This has translated to 20.7 points, 8.0 rebounds, 11.0 assists, and 2.4 combined blocks and steals per game. Although Westbrook doesn’t always play the entire game, the Lakers’ injuries leave them with few alternatives. Consider Westbrook in your lineups tonight.
Tyus Jones is a player to consider on tonight’s slate, with prices of $5,200 on FanDuel and $4,900 on DraftKings. The status of Ja Morant and Demond Bane will need to be monitored leading up to lock, as both players are questionable due to injury. If one of them is unable to play, Jones could be in line for another start and a good opportunity against the San Antonio Spurs, who rank dead last in defensive efficiency. In his last start, Jones played 34 minutes, took 15 shots, and was efficient, making 7 of them for 21 points while adding six assists and four steals for a 40+ fantasy point night.
Jones has been a strong performer when starting in place of Morant this season, averaging 41.8 DraftKings points per game in six games. Keep an eye on the Grizzlies’ starting lineup, as this matchup against the Spurs at home is a favorable one. The betting total is high at 238 and the Grizzlies are currently 11.5-point favorites, which suggests that Morant may be available to play. If he is, Jones could still be a solid value play, especially on DraftKings. Consider Jones in your lineups tonight.

Jaren Jackson Jr. is a player to consider on tonight’s slate, with prices of $7,600 on FanDuel and $6,800 on DraftKings. He has a high upside and has recorded at least 33 DraftKings points in five straight games, surpassing 43 DraftKings points in three of the last five games, with a high of 54.5. He should be a solid option in this matchup against the Spurs, who give up a league-high 120.6 points per game and the sixth most points per game to power forwards. Consider Jackson in your lineups tonight.
Thomas Bryant is a solid option at the center position on tonight’s slate, with prices of $6,800 on FanDuel and $6,300 on DraftKings. Despite the injury to Anthony Davis, the Los Angeles Lakers have been playing well recently and Bryant has been a key contributor, filling in for Davis down low and averaging a double-double on 16.9 points and 10.6 rebounds over the past 12 games. This has translated to an average of 34.6 DraftKings points per game. Although the price is on the rise, it is still below $7,000 on both sites, making Bryant a good value play in all formats.
Bryant has also been playing well recently, scoring at least 35 DraftKings points in five straight games and recording 42 or more fantasy points in four of those. This performance is impressive for a player at his price point, and he should continue to put up solid numbers with Davis out of the lineup. The matchup against the Denver Nuggets is a favorable one, with Nikola Jokic being one of the worst defensive centers in the league. If Bryant gets the 30-35 minutes that he has become accustomed to, he is a safe bet to reach 5X value.

Nikola Jokic is a top player to consider on Monday’s slate, with a salary of $11,700 on DraftKings and $11,400 on FanDuel. Jokic has consistently scored at least 51 DraftKings points in 20 of his last 23 games, averaging 59 points in that span. He is known for being a safe bet for 50 fantasy points and has a good matchup against the Los Angeles Lakers, who allow the fourth-most fantasy points to opposing centers. In their three meetings this season, Jokic has averaged 61 DraftKings points per game. He has a high usage rate of 28.4% and a career-high assist percentage of 45.9%, resulting in 1.7 DraftKings points per minute this season. Jokic performs better at home, averaging 63 DraftKings points per game, and has scored over 70 DraftKings points in five of his last 10 home starts. With a high game total and implied team total, Jokic should be a top scorer on the slate and a core play in your lineups.
On tonight’s NBA slate, consider giving Jonas Valanciunas a look in your lineups. With multiple key players out due to injuries, Valanciunas has seen an increase in playing time and has been consistently producing around 40 fantasy points per game when he’s played at least 25 minutes. He has a good matchup against the Washington Wizards, who have a poor defense against centers. Valanciunas is priced at $6,900 on FanDuel and $6,600 on DraftKings.
Another player to consider is Al Horford. Although he has struggled at times this season, his talent and history of production make him a good value at his current price of $5,000 on FanDuel and $4,800 on DraftKings. Horford is averaging around 25 fantasy points per game and has a decent matchup against the Chicago Bulls, who have a mediocre defense. Don’t let his recent struggles deter you from considering him as a value option in your lineups.
