Calvin Ridley is a talented wide receiver who has consistently produced for fantasy football owners during his time in Atlanta. Now with a new team, the Jacksonville Jaguars, Ridley has the potential to continue his success as a WR1 in the 2023 NFL season.
One of Ridley’s strongest attributes is his ability to attract targets. In Atlanta, he averaged 8.8 targets per game, and he has seen 90+ targets in three of his four NFL seasons. The season where he didn’t see 90+ targets was 2021 where he only played 5 games. These numbers are impressive and suggest that Ridley will be heavily involved in the Jaguars’ passing game.
Another factor that bodes well for Ridley’s fantasy production is the Jaguars’ high-volume passing offense. Last season, the team attempted 596 passes, which was the ninth-most in the league. Additionally, quarterback Trevor Lawrence showed promise, throwing for 25 touchdowns in his second NFL season. If Lawrence continues to develop and the Jaguars remain a pass-heavy offense, Ridley could be in for a big year.
The Jaguars’ lack of a true alpha Wide Receiver also benefits Ridley’s fantasy value. Christian Kirk, Zay Jones, and Evan Engram are all talented pass catchers, but none of them has shown the consistency or ability to command targets that Ridley has. As a result, he should have the opportunity to lead the team in targets and potentially even touchdowns.
However, there is a question of what does Calvin Ridley look like after not seeing an NFL action in over a year. All reports from the Jaguars have been positive so far but, this is something to monitor as we approach the prime Best Ball season in July and August.Â
