The Saints attempted 512 passes in 2022, which is a decent volume for a team’s passing offense. If Olave can continue to carve out a significant role in the Saints’ offense, he should be able to see a healthy number of targets and be a consistent producer for fantasy managers.
In terms of his touchdown production, Olave caught 4 touchdowns in 2022. While this is not an eye-popping number, it is a respectable total for a first-year receiver. As he continues to develop in the NFL, he should have ample opportunities to improve upon this total and become a more reliable option for fantasy managers.
Chris Olave looks poised to break out in 2023 and is being drafted as if he will break out around the likes of Deebo Samuel and D.K. Metcalf. In terms of opportunity cost, it seems more likely that players around Olave will outperform him given past results and the uncertainty Derek Carr presents in a new offense. If I were drafting one team, I’d likely go a different direction than Olave if he is being drafted in the 30’s.Â
