Chris Olave emerged as a highly productive wide receiver during his rookie season, and he looks poised to continue that success in year 2. Currently being drafted at an ADP of 32 in NFL Best Ball drafts, Olave is a highly sought-after asset for Best Ball drafters.
In his rookie season, Olave received an impressive 119 targets, demonstrating his ability to be a reliable target for his quarterback. This should bode well for his position as the WR1 for the Saints in 2023.
Olave’s quarterback, Derek Carr, has a career touchdown percentage of 4.2% through the air, which is a solid indicator of his ability to find the end zone. This should provide ample opportunities for Olave to score touchdowns and rack up points for fantasy managers.
The Saints attempted 512 passes in 2022, which is a decent volume for a team’s passing offense. If Olave can continue to carve out a significant role in the Saints’ offense, he should be able to see a healthy number of targets and be a consistent producer for fantasy managers.
In terms of his touchdown production, Olave caught 4 touchdowns in 2022. While this is not an eye-popping number, it is a respectable total for a first-year receiver. In terms of opportunity cost, it seems more likely that players around Olave will outperform him given past results and the uncertainty Derek Carr presents in a new offense. If I were drafting one team, I’d likely go a different direction than Olave if he is being drafted in the 30’s.Â
