Justin Fields looks to be poised for a breakout 2023 season! He has an ADP of 34 in Half PPR Best Ball formats.
Do we buy into the hype? Let’s take a look!
Justin Fields in Best Ball
Fields attempted 318 passes in 2022, which is a respectable number for a quarterback who is clearly developing at the NFL level, but he also made an impact on the ground with 160 rushing attempts. This dual-threat ability is highly sought after in fantasy football, as it provides additional opportunities for points.
The Bears’ offseason trade for D.J. Moore provides Fields with a top-tier receiver to target, and he also has young, promising options in Darnell Mooney and Cole Kmet. Chase Claypool should be a guy we can look to for those big play opportunities.Â
Similar to Jalen Hurts or Lamar Jackson, we NEED Justin Fields to continue to have both volume and effectiveness on the ground to have a breakout season. We’d like to see Fields get 160 attempts again in 2023 with 70+ rushing yards per game to add to his weekly floor. Fields averaged 76.2 rushing yards per game in 2022.Â
If Fields is genuinely going to break out and be a top 3 Quarterback in 2023, we need to see a spike in touchdown percentage or passing volume. He could either go the Jalen Hurts route of being in a high-volume passing attack with a rushing floor or the 2019 Lamar Jackson route with a massive touchdown percentage around 8-10% through the air being insanely efficient.Â
Can Justin Fields break out in 2023? Absolutely! We need an increase in passing volume or touchdown efficiency to make it happen.
That’s all we’ve got today!
