NHL DFS Top Plays

On Friday, the NHL is set to showcase five games with all 10 teams fully rested and geared up to compete. The Blackhawks will make their way to Ottawa, while the Islanders will take on the Penguins in New York. The Dallas Stars will visit Minnesota, and LA will battle it out with the Ducks cross-town. Meanwhile, the Rangers will face off against the Oilers in Edmonton. The even playing field of rested teams means that no team has a clear advantage. In light of this, we’ve put together some recommended NHL DFS Top Plays to help you create a successful DFS lineup for the Friday slate.

NHL DFS Top Plays for Friday 2/17/23

Connor McDavid (C-$9,800)

Connor McDavid is the top overall play of the day, and for good reason. He leads the NHL with an impressive 42 goals and 99 points in just 55 games. He has been outstanding on the power play, with 16 goals and 48 points. With McDavid in your lineup, you have a great chance of having a breakout night, as he has only gone two games since Thanksgiving without a point, a span of 35 games. Although the matchup against the Rangers may not be the best on paper, McDavid is truly matchup-proof and is a multi-point game waiting to happen every single night.

Zach Hyman (W-$7,900)

Zach Hyman is having a career year, with 27 goals and 64 points, which is 10 better than last season’s career best of 54. He has also scored 13 goals on the power play, which is a career high.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (W-$6,300)

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is only three points away from a career high, scoring 26 goals and 66 points. The trio has been outstanding this season, and their price is good enough as Hyman and Nugent-Hopkins give good value for their price.

While there aren’t many choices on the high end today, McDavid is a must-have in your lineup. He has had 15 SOG in his last two games alone and gets the 5v5 boost with RNH and Hyman with him. Despite the Rangers being a tough matchup, McDavid is a tough fade, especially on home ice.

The Oilers have lost three of their last four games and need to pick up a win to stay on pace in the Western Conference Wild Card race. With a juicy 7.0 over/under against the Rangers, McDavid is a priority play tonight, and he should stuff the box score as he always does.

Kings Stack vs Ducks

Kings and Ducks are set to face off and the Kings’ top line of Kopitar, Kempe and Byfield is expected to take full advantage of the Ducks’ weak defense. Kopitar has been playing well lately, racking up 17 points in the last 15 games, and Kempe is on a hot streak with eight goals in his last five games. Byfield, the second overall pick in 2020, has been improving and has two goals and five assists in his last 11 games. All three players are on the first power play and should provide some good value for their price.

The Ducks have struggled all season defensively, ranking last in both goals against average and shots on goal allowed per game. This presents a great opportunity for Kopitar, who has 16 goals and 46 points in 55 games and is poised to reach the 20-goal mark for the first time in three seasons. With a matchup against such a weak defensive team, Kopitar is expected to have a big night.

Kempe also presents a great value play with his current hot streak and a matchup against the Ducks’ 28th-ranked penalty kill. He has a good chance to make an impact on the man advantage and could have a big night.

If Gabriel Vilardi returns to action on Friday after missing just over a month with an upper-body injury, he could replace Byfield in the lineup. Regardless, the Kings’ top line is expected to dominate the Ducks and provide some great value for DFS players.

Brady Tkachuk

Brady Tkachuk has emerged as one of the best young players in the NHL, and he’s been a key contributor to the Ottawa Senators’ recent offensive surge. Tkachuk has been playing on the team’s top forward line and first power-play unit, and his production has been excellent. He has 14 NHL points and 40 shots on goal over his last 10 games, which is an impressive rate of production that makes him a strong DFS play on any given night.

One of the reasons why Tkachuk is so appealing in DFS is that he has a high floor, as well as the potential for a big fantasy night. He’s a consistent shooter, which means he generates a lot of points through shots on goal alone. He’s also a skilled playmaker, so he can rack up assists when his linemates are finishing off his passes. And of course, he’s a proven goal scorer in his own right, with 17 goals in 51 games this season.

The matchup against the Chicago Blackhawks on this night is especially favorable for Tkachuk and the Senators. The Blackhawks have been one of the worst defensive teams in the league over the past few weeks, allowing nearly four goals per 60 minutes of five-on-five play. The Senators, on the other hand, have been among the most potent offensive teams in that same span, averaging over three goals per 60 minutes of five-on-five play. This makes for a great opportunity for Tkachuk and the Senators to put up a big number on the scoreboard.

Overall, Brady Tkachuk is a highly skilled, highly productive player who is in a great spot to put up a big fantasy night against the Chicago Blackhawks. With his high floor and sky-high ceiling, he’s a top DFS play in any format.

Noah Dobson, NYI vs. PIT

Noah Dobson is a rising star on the New York Islanders’ blue line and is poised to have a big game against the Pittsburgh Penguins. At a price point of $6,900, he presents a great value to daily fantasy players looking to fill out their rosters with a reliable defenseman.

Dobson has been on fire lately, registering a goal and four assists in his last three games, including a solid performance against the Senators where he played over 25 minutes and fired off eight shots. With the Islanders’ power play looking more dangerous than ever, expect Dobson to be a key factor in their offensive production.

The young defenseman has been on the rise all season and has been particularly impressive since the All-Star break. He has notched at least one point in four of his last five games and has been consistently racking up shots on goal, with an impressive 150 shots in just 53 games. Against a Penguins team that has allowed an average of 34.0 shots on goal per game, Dobson should have plenty of opportunities to get shots on net and make an impact on the scoreboard.

With the Penguins’ starting goaltender Tristan Jarry’s return still up in the air, backup Casey DeSmith could be in net. DeSmith has a solid .907 save percentage, but with Dobson’s recent hot streak and the Islanders’ potent offense, it’s entirely possible that Dobson could get on the scoresheet once again. At his price point, Dobson presents a great value and is a solid choice for any daily fantasy roster.
