Shriners Hospitals for Children Open DFS Course Preview for Draftkings & Fanduel

As we move from Jackson, Mississippi we head over to Las Vegas, Nevada where I’ll breakdown our course preview for Shriners Hospitals for Children Open DFS Course Preview for Draftkings and Fanduel. Here we go!

Course Preview

This week we’re at TPC Summerlin with a pretty stacked field. We’ll have U.S. Open champion Bryson DeChambeau amongst us as well as defending champion Kevin Na. Also, Francesco Molinari makes his first start since February (exciting). Webb Simpson, Tony Finau, and two-time runner up Patrick Cantlay return to action as well.

TPC Summerlin is a par 71 course, over 7200 yards played on Bentgrass Greens. And yes, we have a birdie fest in our midst. The past winners have finished -20 to -23. It is key to note that this course is played 2700 feet above sea level, so the course becomes much shorter when you’re smashing the ball.

Fairways are wide here, so accuracy is not a requirement.  We’re looking for bombers and strong irons on this course. We have three par 5’s that reach birdies 50% of the time and three par 4’s that reach birdies about 27% of the time. Lastly, holes 3, 8, 11, and 17 have a 15-25% bogey rate.

Important Stats:

  • Strokes Gained: Ball Striking
  • Strokes Gained: Tee To Green
  • Strokes Gained: Around The Green
  • Strokes Gained: Approach The Green
  • Strokes Gained: Putting

Cash Play

  • Bryson DeChambeau ($11800) – It’s difficult to not lock this man in your lineups and run with it. Bryson just won the U.S Open and now he comes to a course that he’s won before. How do you not play him? Here are Bryson’s performances at Shriners in the last 3 years: 7th, 4th, and 1st. Oh, and he’s also gained over 2.3 total strokes here.
  • Webb Simpson ($11000) – Webb is also someone that is coming to this course with phenomenal form and course history. Webb’s history is the following: 7th, 15th, 20th, and 31st. He has a ton of history here as he’s gained over 1.7 total strokes in 34 rounds.
  • Patrick Cantlay ($10400) – I pretty much just named the top 3 salary players, but that’s what makes this week so difficult (salary-wise). Cantlay is also someone that has placed 2nd twice and has won once…in the last 3 years! Cantlay is ranked 1st in total strokes gained, by gaining over 3 strokes in this course.

GPP Play

  • Matthew Wolff ($9600) – In the last 5 events, Wolff has gained 6.5 strokes T2G, 3.1 OTT, and 3 strokes on APP. Wolff’s game has matured a ton since the beginning of the 2020 season. Wolff has also played here before with a grand 18th place finish and gained 1.7 total strokes.
  • Rickie Fowler ($9000) – Rickie doesn’t play a ton here so I had to dig deep because it seems like he goes 4-6 years without playing and then comes back. With that being said – Rickie gains over 1.7 total strokes in 16 rounds played. He also gains 0.35 strokes on Bentgrass Greens.
  • Denny McCarthy ($7700) – One can only hope these past events have not been a fluke. In the last 5 events, Denny has gained 2.5 strokes T2G, 2.2 on APP, and 1.6 putting. He also has excellent course history with a 9th & 15th placed finish and has gained 1.3 total strokes in 10 rounds. Lastly, Denny gains 0.75 strokes on Bentgrass Greens.

Dark Horse Play

  • Kristoffer Ventura ($7100) – Ventura might be forgotten in this strong field, but let’s not forget about his excellent performance last week at Sanderson Farms. Now we come to an easier course where he can smash it again and putt? AND gains 0.7 strokes on Bentgrass Greens? I’m in. Ventura is ranked 4th in ball striking, 27th putting, and 9th in birdie or better.
