Week 8 Considerations
Before we delve into our recommendations, a couple of important reminders. First, stay vigilant with injury reports throughout the week. The NFL landscape can change rapidly, and knowing who’s healthy can make or break your fantasy week. Second, there are no bye weeks to contend with in Week 8, but we have a few quarterbacks dealing with injuries, so monitor those situations closely.
When it comes to must-starts, some quarterbacks are no-brainers, and Week 8 is no exception. Patrick Mahomes, Jalen Hurts, Josh Allen, Tua Tagovailoa, Justin Herbert, and Lamar Jackson fall into this category. These proven stars have favorable matchups and should be in your lineup without hesitation.
But let’s also look at some slightly deeper options:
Kenny Pickett vs. Jacksonville Jaguars
If you’re in need of a quarterback with high upside, consider Kenny Pickett. Facing the Jacksonville Jaguars, Pickett has the potential to offer top-10 fantasy production. The Jaguars have allowed the ninth-most fantasy points to quarterbacks this season, making Pickett an enticing waiver wire pickup.
Jordan Love vs. Minnesota Vikings
Jordan Love might not be everyone’s first choice, but he’s worth a look this week against the Minnesota Vikings. Minnesota’s defense ranks among the friendliest to opposing quarterbacks, allowing ample fantasy points. Love, despite some rookie mistakes, delivered a top-10 fantasy performance last week. With another favorable matchup, he’s a reasonable start.
Jimmy Garoppolo vs. Detroit Lions
Jimmy Garoppolo, if healthy, could be a sleeper play of the week against the Detroit Lions. The Lions haven’t been effective against quarterbacks, allowing significant passing yards and touchdowns. Garoppolo, with a talented receiver in Davante Adams, could deliver a solid fantasy performance.
Mac Jones vs. Miami Dolphins
For those in need of a deeper option, Mac Jones against the Miami Dolphins is worth considering. Jones is coming off a solid performance against the Buffalo Bills and faces a Dolphins defense that has allowed plenty of passing yards and touchdowns this season. If you’re in a bind, Jones could provide a decent fantasy output.
On the flip side, let’s talk about quarterbacks you might want to avoid in Week 8:
Matthew Stafford vs. Dallas Cowboys
Matthew Stafford has had a fantastic season, but this week he faces a tough Dallas Cowboys defense. The Cowboys rank fifth in fantasy points allowed to quarterbacks, and Stafford has shown signs of physical discomfort. This matchup might not be as favorable as it seems.
Joe Burrow vs. San Francisco 49ers
Joe Burrow’s matchup against the San Francisco 49ers is a challenging one. The 49ers have been stingy against quarterbacks, allowing less than 10 fantasy points per game to the position. Burrow is dealing with a calf injury, and facing a defense led by Nick Bosa is less than ideal.
Geno Smith vs. Cleveland Browns
Geno Smith had a surprising performance last week, but don’t expect the same against the Cleveland Browns. The Browns boast a formidable defense and showed their ability to create turnovers and pressure quarterbacks even in a high-scoring game. Geno Smith is a risky start this week.
