Super Duper Bottom of the Barrel Wild Card Weekend Running Backs NFL DFS Breakdown

Christopher Robin

1/11/2023

One of the greatest weeks of the NFL season is upon us, Wild Card Weekend! As a true-blue football fan, the idea of anything happening on the biggest stage is exciting. On the flip side, after all the time, efforts, and battles it could all be over. Yet again, anything can happen!

When I was a little boy Wild Card weekend always reminded me of the Joker from Batman comics. Now as an adult I still tend to think that way, which only adds to the allure of the whole thing. There have been some all-time classic games in the Wild Card round! However, looking back these games were traditionally played around Christmas. Even Christmas Eve when Seattle and Green Bay went to overtime. Matt Hasselback and the Seahawks won the coin toss and Matt shouted, “We want the ball and we’re going to win!” Only to throw a pick-6 the next play and lose the game. One of many memories made on Wild Card Weekend!

As the NFL Playoffs start and carry-on Bottom of the Barrel will roll along with it! As teams are eliminated and the player pool becomes thinner, Bottom of the Barrel will morph and change. We have some time to enjoy all of it and that time starts now! Let’s talk about some Wild Card NFL DFS options!

I’ll get into all the details after a quick note about our new membership options! 😺

We recently added membership options for Individual Sports here at Rise or Fall. If you wanted to subscribe to NFL Monthly or NFL Weekly without access to any of the other sports you now have that option!

All memberships come with Discord access, but, only the Monthly All Access for $39.99 comes with a $20 monthly credit to Fantasy Cruncher.

Running Backs

Christian McCaffrey SF vs. SEA(27th)(FD-$9,800)(DK-$8,900)(Y!-$41)

When certain teams are good the NFL is just more fun. When certain players are healthy and playing well the NFL is just more fun. CMC is an example of that. As of right now the 49ers team as whole is just dialed in. Realistically, this San Francisco offense can run over anybody anywhere. With Brock Purdy at the helm CMC and George Kittle have seen the biggest boost. The big time TV analyst have long said a pass catching back along with a stud TE can be a rookie QBs best friend. Well, point taken with the 9ers. As mentioned in Purdy’s blurb the Seahawks are in trouble. Seattle is in for a beating. Leading that charge should be CMC. At this point I am just talking in circles. Let’s expect 15-16 carries, 60 yards, 6-7 targets, 4-5 receptions, 40 yards, and two total touchdowns. CMC 2+ touchdowns is around +380 on the major sportsbooks.

J.K. Dobbins BAL @ CIN(8th)(FD-$6,600)(DK-$5,700)(Y!-$18)

Not used to mentioning running backs in tough spots here at Bottom of the Barrel. However, with it being Wild Card Weekend the player pool is limited. These select few teams are in the postseason for a reason. They can handle the tough tasks and competitive nature of a full-length football game. Also, each individual player has made it this far in their career for a reason. They can battle against the best of the best. When I look at Baltimore this week a few things come to mind. What is Lamar Jacksons status? From what I have read it’s not good. In the event Lamar does not play I absolutely believe they lean on Dobbins. A young and refreshed J.K. with volume on his side is a beautiful thing. I’m thinking 15-16 carries, 75-80 yards, 3-4 targets, 3 receptions, 15 yards, and one touchdown. Of all the players on this slate J.K. is a sure thing!

Leonard Fournette TB vs. DAL(5th)(FD-$6,400)(DK-$5,300)(Y!-$15)

Playoff Lenny is what I am after here. The Cowboy’s defense has been very good, in spots, all season. Unfortunately, last week they were awful. Dallas let an NFC East foe run right over them. There were a few things that stood out. First, their passing rush was inconsistent. Second, they keep getting gashed on the ground. Their secondary has been in shambles due to injuries and awful play. The Cowboys rush defense has allowed six opponents to gain over 150 yards and two teams went for 200, or more, yards. After last week’s game Tom and Tampa Bay have a clear blueprint on how to annihilate them. If they give Brady time to hang in the pocket, he is going to shred them. If they decide to feed Leonard, it could get ugly quick. He and rookie RB Rachaad White are that one two punch that could send Dallas packing. I have Fournette around 11-12 carries, 55-60 yards, 4-5 targets, 4 receptions, 30 yards, and one touchdown on the ground. Lock and load my friends! It’s time for Playoff Lenny!

Devin Singletary BUF vs. MIA(20th)(FD-$6,200)(DK-$5,500)(Y!-$15)

When it comes to Devin this week it’s just an obligatory DFS message. Week in and week out Singletary makes the cut in Bottom of the Barrel for a few reasons. One, he is currently the starting RB on a powerhouse NFL team. The Bills offense is lights out with Josh Allen under center. Two, his price tag remains on the low side and at any given moment Devin could score two or three times! Lastly, he fills a vital spot in our daily fantasy sports entries, and we can go to bed at night knowing, without doubt, he will not disappoint. Meaning, we do not have to worry about a goose egg. In all honesty, I have the Bills to score 30, or more, points. The chances Devin Singletary scores a touchdown are higher than most RBs this week. For the time being let’s count on 11-12 carries, 55-60 yards, 2-3 targets, 2 receptions, 20 yards, and a touchdown!

Jeff Wilson Jr. MIA @ BUF(7th)(FD-$6,000)(DK-$5,400)(Y!-$23)

Jeff Wilson Jr. or Rhaheem Mostert? Most of the year, in DFS formats, we never had to ask ourselves that. We could plug both guys in and run with it. Now, Rhaheem Mostert has a fractured thumb and isn’t practicing. This isn’t the regular season anymore, so a day-to-day type of deal becomes more of are you hurt or are you injured? There is still a chance Rhaheem can just play with a clubbed hand but that would affect his pass catching work, right? So, our best bet is Jeff Wilson Jr. at the RB spot. If Wilson has the Miami backfield to himself on Sunday, then he becomes 100% owned on all my entries. I’m thinking 16-17 carries, 70-75 yards, 3-4 targets, 3 receptions, 15-20 yards, and a touchdown!

James Cook BUF vs. MIA(20th)(FD-$5,900)(DK-$4,800)(Y!-$16)

Last week Cook outplayed Devin Singletary but it was no shock. The secret is out regarding what the Bills are looking to do from here on out. Long term, I do not think Devin will be back with the Buffalo next season. Seeing how he’s a FA and James Cook has fast become the favorite play of this coaching staff. However, on Sunday we will see get that 50/50 split and I am going to side with Cook if given the chance. Truthfully, having already mentioned Devin a few blurbs ago, I could see a case where we use both Buffalo RBs in the same entry. It’s a cheaper way to get exposure to 100% of the Bills backfield. Well, if you throw in Josh Allen as well now it’s 100%! We should expect around 9-10 carries, 45 yards, 2-3 targets, 2-3 receptions, and 15-20 yards.

Elijah Mitchell SF vs. SEA(27th)(FD-$5,500)(DK-$4,700)(Y!-$14)

Was great to see Eli back on the field and healthy! Cam back with a bang honesty! Mitchell carried the ball five times for 55 yards and two touchdowns! He has dealt with lower body issues all season and now he looks to be a full go for the playoffs. In no way will he dip into CMC’s targets and touches, but he has the speed to be sneaky good on only a handful of carries. Five last week and I think he sees double that on Saturday. To be specific, 10-11 carries, 55-60 yards, 3-4 targets, 2 receptions, and another 15 yards. All about what you are looking to do. An entry with both 49ers RBs? An entry with both Bills RBs? How about multiple entries? Yes! Now we’re talking!

Joshua Kelley LAC @ JAX(18th)(FD-$5,100)(DK-$5,000)(Y!-$12)

It’s tough being the guy backing up stud running back Austin Ekeler but Kelley has done a great job! After the MCL sprain and short competition with Sony Michel he prevailed! Now he finds himself as the Chargers RB2 headed to Jacksonville for a playoff game. Look, all the numbers and statistics aside, this game, to me, has the potential to be the most exciting. The most competitive and fun game of the weekend. I am not looking at Joshua as some cheap end garbage time type play but getting meaningful carries in tough spots. I have Austin Ekeler to score at least one touchdown, maybe two. I think we see Kelley around 8-9 carries, 35 yards, 1-2 targets, 1-2 receptions, and 8-10 yards. Maybe, just maybe, after a long drive or long run from Austin the Chargers pop in Kelley to vulture a touchdown.

Few other RBs to keep an eye on! Cheap players to help you build elsewhere!

JaMycal Hasty JAX vs. LAC(26th)(FD-$4,900)(DK-$4,600)(Y!-$11)

Rachaad White TB vs. DAL(5th)(FD-$6,000)(DK-$5,100)(Y!-$13)
