After a beautiful holiday weekend, a few things have become clear. One of which is rest. That idea is foreign to some. Heck, I am one of them, until now. I think there are levels of rest, in my own mind at least. Normally my day of rest is on Sunday. Get to sleep in, no alarm, and do as I please. That one day of being disconnected can do wonders. What if we take it a step further? How about a hard reset?
Going away for a few days reset and leaving your home behind and all responsibilities for an extended period. Now we are talking! From my personal experience, just the idea of going away works wonders. Sitting at home or at work while daydreaming and romanticizing about the beach or a ball game helps.
When we can temporarily cut ties with our everyday regular routine, we approach that hard reset. During this time, we realize the stress and the ways we push ourselves. Not bad things but our minds can be clear as we rest and reset!
Today’s overall baseball schedule gives us 14 games! FanDuel’s Main slate is 8 games, and the first pitch is at 7:05p. DraftKings Main is also 8 games and locks at 7:05p. While Yahoo! main is also 8 games and locks at 7:05p. Let’s dig into some of my favorite plays for Wednesday, July 6th, shall we?
TEX at BAL 7:05p SS Josh Smith(FD-$2,300)(DK-$3,600)(Y!-$9)
Orioles are sending RHP Spenser Watkins to the hill tonight. Spence carries a .296 xBA, .390 xwOBA, and 5.97 xERA as well, and his abysmal 12.6 percent strikeout rate looks very juicy tonight for all Ranger hitters. When we look at Josh Smith, he has a 17.4 BB% and has reached base safely in 11 of 12 starts while his OBP% is at .449 during that span. He could be an afterthought tonight, leading off, against a pitcher who will be hammered.
LAD vs. COL 10:10p 1B Freddie Freeman(FD-$4,200)(DK-$5,000)(Y!-$24)
We both know how good Freddie Freeman is so, let’s focus on the opposing pitcher tonight rather than wasting time on Freeman’s excellence! RHP Jose Urena has been called up to the Rockies roster to start tonight against the Dodgers. He had a 7.29 ERA and a 2.14 WHIP during his stint in the Pacific Coast League. Urena is also allowing a .308 average and .413 wOBA to lefty bats, and he’s given up a .325 average and .399 wOBA to left-handed bats in the length of his career. Lock and load Freeman tonight! Per the Rise or Fall Study Hub, his ownership percentages are 12.6% on FD and 15.3% on DK. So, there is no secret with Freddie tonight but do not build without him!
TB at BOS 7:10p 1B/3B Yandy Diaz(FD-$3,000)(DK-$4,000)(Y!-$13)
Yandy has been a sneaky play in not only DFS formats but also in seasonal formats. Also, Diaz has been locked in as of late. Heading into tonight’s game against Boston, Diaz sports a 292 average, .742 OPS, and .338 wOBA against right-handed pitching on the road, as well as a .421 average and .433 wOBA during his last 22 at-bats this month. Another note-worthy comment here is the fact the Red Sox have been called by Brayan Bello to start tonight. Bello has been outstanding in AAA and is part of Boston’s long-term plans. The first few innings may favor Brayan but that 2nd or 3rd time through the order may be deadly for the Rays. Looking at the Study Hub Yandy’s projections are at 10.79 on FD and 8.34 on DK. Given his sub-8 % ownership on both sites, Diaz should hit value quickly.
BAL vs. TEX 7:05p 1B/OF Trey Mancini(FD-$3,000)(DK-$4,000)(Y!-$17)
Trey Mancini has accumulated a .294/.365/.482 slash line and .365 wOBA against right-handed pitchers at home. Upon closer inspection of the opposing pitcher, Glenn Otto, we see that Trey has hammered two of Otto’s best pitches, the sinker (.312 average, .360 wOBA) and the four-seam fastball (.313 average .426 wOBA). Otto throws his sinker 29.5% of the time and his 4-seam fastball 24.4% of the time. The chances Mancini gets ahold of one of those tonight is extremely likely. The Rise or Fall Study Hub tells us that Trey is a measly 4.3% owned on FD. While 8.9% on DK. Both formats are great, but Mancini is a must-own on Fanduel tonight! Bombs away!

ARZ vs. SF 9:40p C/OF Dalton Varsho(FD-$3,100)(DK-$4,200)(Y!-$11)
Look, Giants pitcher Alex Cobb has been very good lately. To put it into perspective Cobb’s EV(exit velocity) is a lowly 87.5%. Cobbs HH%(hard-hit rate) is only at 33.6%. While his K% is an astounding 25.6% compared to his BB% of 6.8%. So, Chris, why bother with Dalton Varsho? Well, Dalton has been extremely efficient at the plate in his last 16 at-bats. Going 8-16(.500) with two bombs and nine RBI to kick off July. He has also been on the receiving end of a few throwing mistakes by the Giants leading to extra bases and runs. That kind of thing is not really counted in a box score but is seen by the human eye and Varsho is worth the risk tonight at extremely low ownership levels!
