Top DFS Picks for the Honda Classic 2023

Top DFS Picks for the Honda Classic

This week, I’m sharing my Top DFS Picks for the Honda Classic! The field is interesting – to say the least. Favored golfers are guys we wouldn’t normally rely on to anchor our lineups, but here we are! There is likely to be some wind, there’s plenty of sand to contend with, and there’s water on nearly every hole. Let’s also keep in mind these are Bermuda grass greens, versus Poa.

The Honda Classic is the first stop of what’s known as the “Florida Swing” and it’s played at the PGA National Resort in Palm Beach Gardens Florida. It plays 7100 yards and par is 70. What’s most interesting are the past winning scores. They’re not so great: -10, -12, -6, -9, -8 respectively. Previous cut lines tell quite the story too: +2, +1, +3, +2, +5. Thanks to Team Rise or Fall Member, Adam Hallas, for his help in researching the course.

My goal isn’t to build your lineup for you, it’s to guide you by using my experience as a sports bettor and the membership tools available at Team Rise or Fall. With that being said… here are this week’s Top DFS Picks for the Honda Classic (after a word from our sponsor).

We recently added Individual Sport Memberships to our offerings here at Rise or Fall. If you would like to subscribe to a PGA Monthly or PGA Weekly plan, you now have that option.

Members have access to the PGA Study Hub, which I use heavily for my analysis here. My favorite feature is the PGA Stats Model Tab, which allows me to weight Strokes Gained and other stats by importance for that particular week and see new rankings.

All memberships come with Study Hub and Discord Access, however, only *Monthly ALL Access* plan comes with a $20 monthly credit to Fantasy Cruncher.

Top DFS Picks for the Honda Classic

Matt Kuchar

  • $9.3 DraftKings
  • $11.1 FanDuel

Mr. Kind Eyes, Matt Kuchar, has been a frequent pick of mine, and for good reason. He’s been playing consistently well over the last 6 weeks, finishing with 2 top 10s (4th last week at the Genesis and 7th in Hawaii in January). Taking into consideration various data points, such as Accuracy, Sand Saves, Putting on Bermuda, and Approach, to name a few I’ve used to model my picks, Kuchar ranks 1st in this field. In looking at course fit, he’s looking great on paper. Water doesn’t bother the man and he actually does rank 1st in Sand Saves in this field, not just in my personal model. I’m going to trust my process and go with Matty K this week.

Thomas Detry

  • $9 DraftKings
  • $10.4 FanDuel

My podcast co-host, Adam Hallas, made a note that Thomas Detry is basically Aaron Wise, without the experience. I agree with that observation. On paper, both players are doing quite well, with consistent play. The big differentiator for me here is that Wise is truly awful out of the sand and Detry is fantastic. You’d also save $200+ in your budget by going with Detry, rather than Wise. Not to mention… the rookie has played 9 events and made all 9 cuts with 3 top 10 finishes, one of them being runner-up. Detry ranks 6th in my model.

JT Poston

  • $8.8 DraftKings
  • $10.5 FanDuel

Poston ranks 7th in my weighted model. He feels a bit pricey, but considering the field, I suppose the salary is in line. With an average score of 69 and hitting 72% of greens in regulation, Poston seems like a safe pick this week. If he does hit the sand, he’ll be good for a sand save.

Sepp Straka

  • $8.5 DraftKings
  • $10 FanDuel

Sepp Straka has made 5 of 8 cuts this season, so far. Of those five, two of them are top 25, 1 top 10, and a runner-up. If the data holds true… as long as Sigg makes the cut, he’s good for a top finish. Not only that, but Straka is the reigning champ from last year. Could he do it again? It’s not a common occurrence, but knowing this course well is going to be important. He’ll be one of the tops this week for sure. He shakes out at 16th in my model.

Robby Shelton

  • $7.8 DraftKings
  • $9.7 FanDuel

Robby Shelton ranks 3rd in my weighted model, taking into consideration the things needed to take this course on. He’s played in 11 recent events, only missing the cut twice. Of the 9 events he made the cut, he has 6 top 25 finishes and 1 top 10. Pretty impressive. He’s an average putter but does manage to avoid the 3-putt. Shelton is also excellent around the green and out of the sand in particular.

Greyson Sigg

  • $7.2 DraftKings
  • $8.7 FanDuel

Sigg seems like a great value to me at this price. He ranks 17th in my model and he’s a really consistent player. Sigg has played in 11 recent events. making the cut in 9 of them, with 1 top 10 finish and 3 top 25 finishes. I’ve played Sigg several times in the last 7 weeks with good results. I’m happy with him here.

WTF Pick: Seonghyeon Kim

  • $7.4 DraftKings
  • $9 FanDuel

S Kim ranks 10th in my model. What the what? He’s 2nd best in the field in Sand Saves. Around the green, in general, he’s pretty great. Not to mention that he’s the most accurate of the tee in this field. I’ve never played the guy in my life, but on paper, he shakes out. I’m gonna trust the process.
