Yahoo NFL Week 9 DFS Picks

Welcome to the weekly Yahoo DFS picks article. The whole point of this article is to find the best plays to fit in your $200 team budget on the Yahoo main slate each week. Sometimes that means paying up, sometimes it means finding value, and sometimes it means taking some dart throws. Let’s dive in.

Josh Allen @ JAX – $40
Allen is the most expensive player on the slate, but it’s for good reasons. He’s averaging more fantasy points/game than any player in the NFL and is matching up with a Jacksonville team with the sixth-worst scoring defense in the league. The Bills have a 31.5 implied team point total and Allen has accounted for 20 of Buffalo’s touchdowns this season. If you can find the salary to spare, lock him into your lineup.

Jalen Hurts vs. LAC – $30
His season-long QB1 streak ended last week, but that won’t stop me from getting him in a lineup this week. The Eagles rolled the Lions last week, something that isn’t likely to happen this week against the Chargers. His poor DFS showing last week could lower his roster percentage, but he still has the rushing floor to be safe in cash lineups and the passing ceiling to make him viable in tournaments.

Tayson Hill vs. ATL – $22
Hill looks to step into the starting role for the Saints this week with Jameis Winston out for the rest of the season. He was a top-12 fantasy quarterback in all four of his starts at quarterback last season while averaging 21.1 fantasy points/game. At that rate, he’ll have no problem paying off his reasonable salary against a Falcons team that gives up the ninth-most fantasy points to quarterbacks.

Jordan Love @ KC – $20
Love wasn’t expected to see the pricing was set for the slate, so Love comes in at the bare minimum. It’s impossible to predict how he’ll perform in his first career start, but he’ll be able to throw the ball to Davante Adams against a Kansas City defense that’s allowing the second-most fantasy points to quarterbacks. I love the idea of pairing Love and Adams as a discount stack this week.

Running Backs

Alvin Kamara vs. ATL – $33
You’ll be hard-pressed to find a safer running back than Kamara on this slate. He’s averaging 24.3 opportunities/game and still saw 21 last week with Mark Ingram back in town to keep him fresh. The Sants should lean on him even more as Taysom Hill takes the reigns at quarterback.

Aaron Jones @ KC – $30
A.J. Dillon @ KC – $16
As much as I like Jordan Love as a tournament quarterback this week, it’s more likely that Packers and Matt LaFleur scheme to lean on the run game and control the ball in the absence of Aaron Rodgers. Last week Dillon saw a season-high 16 carries and Jones was targeted a career-high 11 times. They’re both viable tournament plays, but I’d only trust slotting Jones into cash lineups.

Josh Jacobs @ NYG – $20
Despite battling through injures, Jacobs has topped 14 fantasy points three games in a row, including in Week 7 when he saw the field on just 36% of the offensive snaps. He’ll be as healthy as possible coming off the bye week and is primed for a big week with the Raiders favored on the road against the Giants.

Miles Gaskin vs. HOU – $19
Salvon Ahmed vs. HOU $13
The Dolphins are favored at home against Houston and Malcolm Brown is still on injured reserve. Gaskin has been up and down this season, but it’ll be tough to find a better chance to get him into your DFS lineups. Meanwhile, it won’t take much for Ahmed to pay off his discount salary. He’s seen nine opportunities in three straight weeks, which may just be enough to pay off hit value against the Texans.

Wide Receivers

Davante Adams @ KC – $38
It’s understandable if you want to shy away from Adams given his salary as the most expensive wideout on the slate and the fact that he’ll be without Rodgers, but I’m leaning into the situation for leverage. Adams is still one of the most talented wideouts in the NFL and it makes sense for an inexperienced quarterback to hyper-target him. As mentioned earlier, I love the idea of stacking Love and Adams in tournaments.

Justin Jefferson @ BAL – $25
I get that Adam Thielen has more fantasy points than Jefferson at this point of the season, but I still can’t fathom paying more to roster Thielen. Jefferson has more targets and receiving yards than Thielen so far on the season, it’s only a matter of time before the touchdowns even out a bit. Jefferson could be a slate-breaker if positive touchdown regression hits this week against a middle-of-the-road Baltimore defense.

Tee Higgins vs. CLE – $18
All the signs point to a Tee Higgins breakout on the horizon. He’s seen 21 targets over the past two weeks and averaged a crazy 24.2 yards/rec last game. He just missed hitting paydirt last week, and I’m willing to get him into my lineups in hopes that this is the week he finally has a ceiling game.

Hunter Renfrow @ NYG – $17
Bryan Edwards @ NYG – $13
Given the horrific incident in Las Vegas this past week, there’s about 14% of the Raiders team targets up for grabs moving forward. Renfrow already has a 20% target share, so he becomes an even better play in cash lineups. Edwards has a penchant for big plays and makes more sense as a tournament option.

Tajae Sharpe @ NO – $12
Sharpe was fantasy-relevant last week in the absence of Calvin Ridley, playing 68% of the offensive snaps and seeing six targets. He won’t break the slate, but at just a $12 salary, rostering Sharpe in your DFS lineups allows you to spend up elsewhere on the slate.

Brandon Aiyuk vs. ARI – $11
Aiyuk has been a major disappointment this season, but at least he’s finally showing some signs of life. Last week he saw season-highs in both targets (7) and offensive snaps (88%). It will still take a leap of faith to slot him into your DFS lineup, but at just an $11 salary, the risk could be worth the reward.

Tight Ends

Darren Waller @ NYG – $23
I know we haven’t seen Waller since Week 6, but it feels like he should be closer in salary to Travis Kelce than the injured Dawson Knox. That isn’t the case, however, and I’ll gladly pay the $23 salary for a tight end that looks to lead his team in targets and could realistically finish as the TE1 on the week.

Dallas Goedert vs. LAC – $20
We knew Goedert would benefit from the absence of Zach Ertz, but few imagined he’d see 50% of his quarterback’s pass attempts go his way. While that’s exactly what happened against Detroit last week, it shouldn’t be the expectation going forward. Still, if Jalen Hurts throws the ball more than 14 times, which is highly probable, Goedert could be in line for a new career-high in targets, receptions, and yards this week.

Albert Okwuegbunam – @ DAL – $10
I’m always looking for a dart-throw tight end in my DFS lineups, and Albert O is my favorite this week. He steps into a starting role with Noah Fant currently on the COVID-19 reserve list. Okwuegbunam has caught two touchdowns in nine career games and has never produced a goose egg.

Team Defense

Miami Dolphins vs. HOU – $14
Miami’s defensive unit has been disappointing this week, but a matchup with the Texans figures to be a good remedy. Houston has been the fourth-best matchup for opposing defenses so far this season. There may not be a huge upside, but the Dolphins are a safe play at a modest salary this week.

Atlanta Falcons @ NO – $10
Taysom Hill may be a good fantasy quarterback, but he isn’t likely to light up an NFL scoreboard. He was also sacked 14 times in his limited action last season. The Falcons may not be a great real-life defense, but they can get it done at the minimum salary in DFS this week.

San Fransisco 49ers vs. ARI – $10
Kyler Murray has been missing practice this week. If he can’t go, the 49ers become the best defensive value on the slate this week. Even if Murray does suit up, his ankle injury is likely to limit the rushing upside that makes him so dangerous, keep the San Fransisco defense in play for DFS lineups.
